HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing man.

Joel Rosenbaum, 65, was last seen on the evening of Jan. 26 traveling on foot.

Deputies believe he may be attempting to travel to Lawrenceville.

He was last seen wearing the clothing shown in the photo featured in this story, a long-sleeved gray and red Atlanta Falcons shirt, black pants, black belt, and black and white sneakers.

If you have information on his whereabouts, please contact Investigator George Cason at 706-839-0560 or email gcason@habershamga.com.

The article at this link is too long to post per TOS, so I'll summarize.

Joel Rosenbaum's family is looking for him.

JR's brother HR, believes that JR has been having physical and mental issues and needs treatment.

JR has not been seen since he was released from the Habersham Detention Facility in Clarkesville on Jan 25 or Jan 26 (date might be in doubt.) He left on foot.

JR was jailed Jan 24 on a DUI charge after he ran his car off GA 365 in Mt. Airy. HR thinks that the incident may have been health related because JR never took drugs, never drank, never smoked.

Family doesn't know why JR would have been in Habersham Co, but think he was probably traveling to NC.

HR read about the arrest in an article on "Now Habersham." HR tried to contact the administrators and the nurse at the jail to tell them that JR might need medical treatment, but they didn't return his calls until after JR had been released.

The bond sheet was signed on Jan 25 and sheriff's office told family JR was released at noon on Jan 25, but the bond document signed by the magistrate judge is dated Jan 26. The sheriff office clerk said it was a clerical error. (The press release just released by Habersham SO -- linked above -- says JR was last seen on Jan 26, so maybe that is the correct date.)

HR picked up JR's Honda sedan that had been impounded. JR's phone, car keys, jackket and clothes were in the car. The family went to JR's home (next linked article about the arrest, says that JR is from Lawrenceville) and they didn't see any evidence that he had returned there.

Family filed a missing person report with Habersham Co. A deputy told them that JR had been having panic attacks while he was in jail. The deputy said he had checked with the hospital, but JR hadn't been there.

HR says he is not pointing blame at anyone, he just wants to find his brother.

Friends and family of a man who went missing in Habersham County over two weeks ago are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to him.

“I think he sat down somewhere and died of exposure,” Joel’s brother Harold Rosenbaum told Now Habersham, choking back tears.

Friends and family members have spent the past several weeks searching the area, talking with people, desperate to find any clue. The country club in John’s Creek where Rosenbaum worked, organized search parties in downtown Clarkesville and at Tallulah Gorge.

So far, their efforts have turned up empty.

Family and friends of a Gwinnett County man who went missing nearly a month ago in Habersham County continue searching for him. They shifted their focus to Clayton on Monday after a woman in Tiger told investigators she thought she saw Joel Rosenbaum in the area.

The 65-year-old Lawrenceville man disappeared after his release from the Habersham County Detention Center on January 26. Before his release, Harold Rosenbaum says he notified jail officials his brother was mentally ill. Joel walked away from the jail with nothing but the clothes on his back and his driver’s license.

Family members told Ward that Rosenbaum showed signs of dementia in recent months.

So far, there have not been any leads in the missing person’s case. In February, a search party canvassed the Clarkesville and Tallulah Falls areas, but did not find anything. A second search in Clayton, Georgia after a reported sighting was also a dead end.

"It probably would’ve been a little bit easier if he had a cell phone with him or a wallet with him," Ward explained.

The private investigator told FOX 5 he is meeting with detectives on Thursday to go over the evidence they have collected so far. Rosenbaum’s loved ones are offering a $10,000 reward for information that will help find him.

County law enforcement has no reason to believe a 65 year old Lawrenceville man, missing since January, is still in the area. That belief intensified after a world renowned dog tracking team combed the county from Clarkesville to Baldwin yesterday looking for Joel Rosenbaum who was last seen in Clarkesville January 26. County spokesman Rob Moore tells WCHM news, “We don’t have anywhere to look other than where we looked. Typically social media would be lighting up but we’re just not getting anything from the public.” The two tracking dogs and personnel spent multiple hours searching the Soque all the way south to the encampments in Baldwin that the homeless are known to favor. There are no plans to continue the search today as yesterday was the one day that the dog’s handler had available. Rosenbaum was pulled over for suspected DUI in January, spent 24 hours in the jail before being turned loose, was seen near a bridge on Highway 115 and hasn’t been seen since by anyone.

It has been two years since Joel Rosenbaum went missing in Habersham County, and his family is still searching for answers.

*****
Since Joel’s disappearance, Harold has been vigilantly monitoring his brother’s social security account and driver’s license, hoping for any sign of activity that would suggest Joel was still alive or had reentered society. However, there has been no activity on either front. Joel’s driver’s license has since expired, and there has been no attempt to renew it.

*****
After maintaining Joel’s home, mortgage, and bills for two years, Harold and the family made the difficult decision to move forward. In late 2024, they petitioned the court to declare Joel deceased, after receiving advice from several probate attorneys.
