That makes sense about the bike. I would think it would be way easier to get around Midtown on a bike, particularly near Piedmont Park, rather than driving, especially if you were looking for someone.

I think we all wrongly assumed EC was in a vehicle because of the article below, but upon rereading it, I realize it was not a direct quote.

EXCLUSIVE: Partner of woman killed in Piedmont Park speaks about victim's final moments
Clark says she used the 'Find my Phone' app to locate Janness’ phone. She says it pinged to Piedmont Park and was not moving, which concerned her considering Janness was walking the dog. Clark says she left her home and began driving around familiar routes that she thought Janness would take. She says she then went to the park and made the gruesome discovery that Janness had been mutilated and their dog killed as well.

Yes her words could have been misconstrued and the reporter could easily have assumed she was driving.

Totally. I lived in midtown for many years and was an active pedestrian. Driving around there is a pain. Makes far more sense to bike vs. drive.

Something that has been bothering me, is that Park Tavern had a $1 beer night the night (July 27th so technically the ‘night’ before as Katie was found on the 28th) Katie was walking around with Bowie. I’m sure LE is looking at surrounding bars etc and investigating those avenues. But Park Tavern is SUPER close to where she was found. I saw this on Park Tavern’s Instagram page.

That's bothered me, too. It closed at midnight that night, so if I think about what if someone left Park Tavern just after closing and started walking west through the park (like on the Meadow Trail) around the time KJ was in the rainbow crosswalk heading towards the park, maybe they simply crossed paths around the Charles Allen Gate. IDK...

This EXACTLY.
This is all my speculation based on what I’ve heard but it SEEMS this was a crime of opportunity. And if they happened to be coming that way…?!

A lot to ponder. The killer didn’t take any valuables. There was an X on Katie’s forehead. And how does LE know the killer stayed in the park after the crime? What kind of evidence would they have? Could this be related to the tree branch?
How easy are those trees to climb?

I mean they are old, sturdy trees. My girls have climbed them several times. Depends on how low some of the branches are and how fit and agile the person is?!

I wondered about the tree branch too and the possibility that the person hid to watch the aftermath. It’s SO dark there at night. But I also thought that meant they were implying that the person did things to Katie’s body post mortem, instead of fleeing after she was attacked.

I uploaded this pic from her vigil, the first one. I took this on July 29th at 7:30. Apparently this was where her body was found. You can’t read it, but on the envelope on the vase of flowers, there was a note that read ‘911 caller’. People were walking by and commenting on how someone could hide in or behind a tree.

That is what I took that to mean. The killer killed Katie, and then took time to mutilate the body before leaving. That could have been a very short period of time. It is possible the killer did leave the immediate area and then stopped to watch the response from a distance.

I do think it is very disturbing that there does not appear to be any movement on this case. I initially thought maybe LE were waiting to get some evidence back from labs, etc. before making an arrest. But the longer this goes on, the more I am starting to think that LE doesn't have a suspect at all.

That is my fear. And yet I hope that it’s simply a matter of time, that LE are holding details close to the vest bc they need to be strategic with the potential suspect. It feels like it’s been SO long and it is insane to me that someone can basically walk away from this crime and not be caught immediately. I think it was a well thought out planned crime of opportunity. Piedmont Park is very close to major highways and it’s dark, and there are many random entrances and exits and paths so theoretically someone could have fled. And again…midtown is still busy late into the night so it’s odd that more people didn’t see something out of sorts. I’m curious if members of the homeless population that frequent the area saw something. It’s been two months which relatively isn’t SO long. It feels like it especially to those of us who knew and loved Katie. So…there’s still hope this could be solved relatively soon. I listened to the Delphi Murders Down the Hill podcast a few weeks ago and found it fascinating and rather enlightening to the process around LE.

AND I will say…it has been life altering for me in terms of my personal habits around walking at night, running with headphones in heavily wooded areas.

OK

OK sorry for all the posts BUT if LE doesn’t have a suspect yet…I’m wondering if they have any real tips from the public that could lead to a suspect. Because whoever did this KNOWS people in his life…no matter who it is. A co-worker, a family member…someone who would notice something massively off…I’m praying someone would call in a tip if they notice something.

Am I the only person that finds it crazy that there have been no updates on this case? Woman AND her dog mutilated while walking in a public park and if feels like this is just fading away and nothing will ever happen to the perpetrators.

I notice several limbs laying around the vase that have green leaves on them & look as if they were cut on the ends. Does anyone recall what day LE removed the large tree limb from the park in an APD van? IMO the tree is a key piece of the puzzle. Was Bowie snatched away from Katie & leash tied to a tree limb?

Removed duplicate post. Apologies.

What I find interesting (as in I don't know what to make of it) is that the timeline is pretty tight, but yet the talk of the person "spending time with the body" as it wasn't a crime scene that happened in a split second and was done.
It's all very odd.

The reporter who tweeted about the crime scene investigators returning to remove the limb (and posted pictures of both the flowers at the site her body was found and investigators putting the limb into the crime scene van) posted his tweet on July 30th. So that would have been, what - 3 days after she was killed?
