MOO, is that LEO has a very good idea of the perpetrator. Like so many other cases here on WS. But, no evidence, and if the POI did not want to talk to LEO, there is nothing LEO can do about it.

MOO, is that this attack was very personal and had a symbolic meaning behind the almost ritualistic method of killing.

I recently binge watched the entire series of The First 48. There are A LOT of seasons and APD’s Major Crimes Unit is the investigating agency featured on many episodes. I even noted a few episodes about homicides that occurred in Atlanta around the same time as KJ’s murder. The only thing I can say for sure is that APD definitely has the experience needed to solve this crime. I can’t imagine why they haven’t. This perp was either meticulous in his planning or impossibly lucky.

We are nearing the four year mark so quickly, and we still have so few answers. So many questions surround this case. Really hoping we see some updates from LE since the anniversary of her death is approaching. Any additional info could be so helpful in identifying the perpetrator, assuming they don’t have anyone in mind. Every time I drive by Piedmont Park my heart weighs heavy for Katie and Bowie. This case haunts me.

I go back and forth on this case, whether it is someone who knew Katie, or a stranger. I lean towards someone who knew Katie and Bowie. I often think LEO knows more about this case, but not enough evidence to charge someone.

Thankfully there’s DNA. While we always believed there would be, this is the first confirmation of that.

It has been rumored that some sort of DNA evidence was recovered from Bowie's body but his necropsy has not been released.

This case is really perplexing to me.

I also go back and forth over "DNA evidence". I know that the intent of using DNA evidence is to capture criminals, dangerous people to society. But, my personal opinion is that it is a slippery slope.

Especially when LEO uses DNA evidence to upload and compare to DNA databases. To find criminals, such as the case of the "Golden State" killer. Apparently, one of his relatives gave DNA to a website that is "open source" for law enforcement to use to find DNA leads in cases. It seems to be an over reach of law enforcement to me. After all, the "Golden State" killer never consented to having his DNA used in a crime search. Yes, he left "DNA" at the crime scene. It is just such a Pandora's Box.

I am moving toward the camp that says they don't have an idea. The rumor was that some at least partial DNA was retrieved from Bowie. If they had a person of interest, they would have been able to obtain a DNA sample in one way or another. Maybe we are in a "we are waiting for dna technology to evolve enough to identify the killer" stage. But nearly 4 years have gone by with a person on the loose that committed one of the most horrific and violent murders we have seen. And did it in a public space. I don't know what to think.

they could have DNA that does not match anything ... (I also thought there was some research that some killers do not become serial killers- they kill once and stop- but I do not see any on line articles on that so not sure where that theory went.)
