Kelvin McDuffie was a 25 year old University of Georgia student who was found shot to death in his car in a remote area of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia on January 16, 2003 by a delivery driver. Apparently, police have absolutely no leads or clues on this cold case at this time. Maybe websleuthers can come up with some ideas.

What I know: he was shot multiple times, he had just visited Elberton, GA where his grandmother lived, he was in the US Army Reserves and a college student doing well apparently, he had a girlfriend at the time that he wanted to marry supposedly, the first detective on his case ended up being arrested for statutory rape and sent to prison (and I include this info because it might have meant he didn't have good detectives working on his case at the beginning), his mother had been released from prison on parole six months earlier for a manslaughter conviction she had for shooting another woman (I include this info because maybe Kelvin's shooting was revenge of some type for his mother killing somebody, just an idea, I have not read or seen anything that the police have evidence of any motive or possible cause for his murder), Kelvin's father, Christopher McDuffie was murdered two years later while at work by another employee of the poultry plant he worked at. According to police though his murder had nothing to do with Kelvin's murder. Christopher McDuffie was apparently involved in a love triangle. He and another man at his work liked or dated the same woman and the man ended up shooting Christopher to death while they were at work. So Kelvin's dad died at 52 from being murdered, and Kelvin died at 25 from being murdered. Kelvin was a teen when his mom was sent to prison for manslaughter. So a lot of tragedy in this family, but Kelvin seemed to being doing well at the time of his murder and he had plans and goals. He wanted to open his own restaurant in his hometown of Elberton, Georgia.

I haven't been able to find much information on this case basically just what you have posted here with that being said I don't know if anything of any value can be found out without someone coming forward with more information. I can give my interpretations based on what we do know for facts. The multiple gunshots suggests to me this could be a crime of anger. What exactly would be the reason for such anger towards this young man is unknown but it is clear that whoever done this wanted to insure he didn't survive to tell about it. I feel like the person responsible for this is someone who has emotional issues and a history of angry outbursts. They most likely have a prior criminal record for assault, disorderly conduct or things along those lines.

I agree with your comment. Unless somebody comes forward I don't think this will ever be solved. I do hope the police investigated every angle. I hope they investigated his family including his mother too. Family members do murder other family members and if his mother shot somebody before she could have got angry and shot somebody again. So I just hope the police did look at every possible scenario. I could not find if the police knew he was shot from outside the vehicle or if he was shot from inside the vehicle. I assume the police think he was traveling alone though. If he had just come from visiting family I hope they investigated all his family members who were there too. One possible idea I had was that he went to Elberton for a family visit. He was traveling back with a family member (maybe more than one) and an argument ensued and a family member shot him to death and then the family member(s) got a ride home or walked home. And then they of course lied to police. I guess that idea came to me because I have read about cases where family members get in arguments/fights while driving and a shooting ends up happening. If he was in the military I am thinking he would probably have a gun for safety in his glove compartment. So I hope the police looked into all that. There was a case where I live where a stepfather and stepson got in an argument while the stepfather was driving down the road and the stepfather ended up shooting his stepson who was a teenager in the head and he died. I wonder if something like that happened here. I think whoever shot Kelvin had a bad temper, obviously.
If the police want to solve this they need to release more info.

I went to school with this guy, he was mild mannered and a great guy. I feel it was something someone else did that got him there. I wished they would release some investigation files. This still haunts me. I can not even find his birthday! I can not find a memorial page, anything. I did though put him on the cold case website today. I am hoping one day I can get on here and just find something.
