Two thoughts:

1. Hope LE reviews student and staff cell phones for images and text messages.

2. Hope ALL gym video footage is obtained. If something turns up missing.... Well...you know.

If he was going for his shoe, why are they BOTH up by his legs, and not just one?

It was the back shoes you'll see in some of the other pictures which he is supposed to have been reaching for, not the white ones. I think he used the black ones for sport and the white ones for everyday wear.

Then why is he not wearing ANY shoes?

ETA - He IS wearing shoes in the gym photo...I blew it up to 450%

I think the shoes on his legs may be someone's else's shoes that got tossed into the mat? That may be how/why they found him? I cannot seem to find anything to confirm whose shoes these are...

Hmmm then who tossed them in there? All of this is just too weird....

kids toss them in the mats instead of using the lockers. It is the old gym- and not used extensively

Maybe I'm just really tired and it is due to the mat being moved, but if he were reaching for either of the black shoes.. Shouldn't they have been closer to the mat in which he was found? Either one of them? If the white nikes were tossed inside of a mat by a student at a later time and thus being how Kendrick was discovered, I'd be inclined to think that they wouldn't have ended up appearing to be wedged.

Things I've Begun to Ponder:

Is it possible that Kendrick was rolled up inside of the mat by other students who may have originally had it in a horizontal position and then sat or jumped on it.. in some weird prank or hazing ritual?

Has it been released if the neck trauma is suspected to have occurred before or after death? I would be inclined to believe that if the trauma was inflicted upon falling into the mat or an attempt to escape that it'd be a broken neck and that such a piece of information would have already been made to the family/media.

Kendrick's clothing would seem to indicate that he ended up inside the mat before or after actually using the gym.... In the video, was he on his way to attending a class or a practice for an athletic event in the gym? Most classes/athletic practices require sweatpants or shorts to be worn. How often does the camera take and save still shots from the cameras? Is it only done randomly or is it performed on all cameras at specified intervals?

One just has to wonder, what the scene looked like between the time Kendrick arrived in the gym and the time that he was discovered versus when LE arrived in comparison to what the public has been allowed to see.

*le sigh*

Kids wouldn't "toss" their 100.00+ shoes into a mat, instead of using a locker...JMO. I would punish my DS if he did that...I think he was murdered. Maybe not intentionally, maybe accidentally, but killed all the same. Again, JMO.

They do it all of the time...

I haven't followed this case extensively, only really started learning about it today reading on Websleuths, but I thought the theory was he was trying to retrieve a shoe from a rolled-up mat that was standing up vertically and got stuck in it.

So if the kids routinely throw their shoes into the mats and they are stored standing vertically how do they routinely get the shoes back out instead of getting stuck as he supposedly did?

I'm obviously confused about something.

Maybe they are using some sort of a tool to retrieve their shoes?

Who just abandons a Hollister hoodie laying on the floor?

Who told the CSI not to collect possible evidence?

If a shoe fell inside the 6 foot tall mat...how exactly was he trying to reach it? It makes zero sense. How did the white shoes end up where they were?

To rule it an accident, I'm sure they must have been able to replicate & reenact their version of some sort of freak accident. It should have been videotaped. I want to see it.

IMO it makes more sense that he was jumped by several people while changing his shoes, a scuffle, he receives a devastating blow to the neck ... Collapses and he was stuffed into the mat, shoes tossed in after him.

No one bothered to source the blood on the wall, didn't bother to collect sneaker, hoodie, nail clippings. That's basic 101 evidence collection.

Not in my world....

My kid is ridiculously particular about his sneakers. He even photographs them... If they get a speck of dirt... He's using good face cloths to clean it off. If he could figure out how to keep the bottoms spotless he would.

Exactly, knowing teenage boys like I do... They would constantly be shoving each other's sneakers and belongings down the holes.

I noticed most of the mats are tightly rolled. Wouldn't kids be their belongings on those?

I think the shoes these kids leave in gym are the shoes they use for gym CLASS -- not their prized, expensive street shoes. This is why they leave them. The gym class shoes are probably cheap(er), not fashionable, and therefore, not highly valued (by the kids, at least). Just my conjecture.

The mats were not normally stored vertically. There were normally stored horizontally. The mats had been moved over the holiday break which is how the shoes ended up at the bottom.

The livor mortis indicates that KJ's body was not moved. The livor mortis is consistent with the position he was found in.
