Late to the thread, and was drawn in by the unique name.
After reading the thread, I'm disgusted. LE needs to tighten the screws on the two miscreants who have been playing "hot potato" with Kyle's remains for so many years.

Come on, LE, bear down on those two losers. This should have been resolved long ago.

The only redeeming aspect to this story is the fellow who had the guts to step forward and report what he saw so many, many years ago. Well done.
Now let's wrap this up LE! This has been a disgrace to your town long enough.

Amateur opinion and speculation

I reread his dad’s book last night. His parents truly did everything they could to bring their only child home. My heart breaks for them that they never got answers. The news conference time hasn’t been announced, but I will post an update here as soon as more information is released.

Between missing person cases being solved this year by genetic genealogy and and vehicles and remains being found in the water, this has been the year for cold cases. So many I have followed over the years are being solved. Prayers to the families and glad they are finally able to get some closure.

I'm so happy to finally have answers - I've been following this case since 1998, when I was just 18 years old, and heard about it through the local grapevine. I have had so many discussions over the years with so many people in law enforcement, people who worked directly in this case and were "in the know", and no one - and I mean no one ever once suggested that Kyle simply perished in a single-car accident. It was always said that the "Dixie Mafia" and other unsavory characters were responsible for Kyle's disappearance. Everyone felt satisfied with that ending it seemed. I suspect people will continue to believe that they were somehow responsible.

I've never felt satisfied with that ending. Not that I didn't also believe the rumors, but I just felt like Kyle deserved to actually be brought home, and that day is finally here. don't know that we will ever get an official cause of death, and they have not done an official identification, but I expect (IMO) that it will eventually be confirmed to be him inside that car.

It's just so, so sad.

I live about 25 minutes from LaGrange so this is all over my news today. This is my first dive into WebSleuths.

So, just out of curiosity...since the people charged with this crime have a very different story (based on the articles that I've read) than what appears to have actually happened, will the case go back to court or how will that be handled? I'm assuming this means that either the whole barrel story never actually happened OR it did happen but it wasn't Kyle that they're responsible for murdering.

Would love to hear your thoughts/opinions.

I just went back and re read all of the posts made here and what the rumors were about his disappearance. I feel so sad for his parents that they never truly knew what happened to their son. Does he have siblings that are still alive?

According to his mother’s obituary, he was an only child. Other family members are listed:

Thank you. After I made my post - I saw he was an only child. I can't imagine what they went thru for all these years.
As a mom, just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. The not knowing had to have been excruciating.

I am very familiar with both Lagrange and Auburn, and Lafayette is completely out of the way. I do not believe he died in a single car accident. This car was stashed there. He would have gone 85 south .

Me too... I have 4 of my own from 18-27. My two youngest are away at college. You never stop thinking about your kids, even as adults.
