IMO....the closer he got to "home", the more reality set in. They found him because of the vehicle on Monday. No vehicle to link him now....

It seems if he worked M-F that he missed work on Monday. I wonder if something happened with his work.
Also, a veteran. PTSD triggered?

My doctorate project is PTSD. This doesn't sound like any of the symptoms.

Curious about whether or not the police in Alabama who originally found him actually ID'ed him, or if they just found the car and naturally assumed the male in it was Nathan but it was really not?

*Edited to add*
Really reaching here simply since the FAMILY thinks foul play but, IMO it's not.
Really curious....wonder if he was shopping at Wal-Mart?

"He went home it seems, loaded up all of his belongings and left again," Dodd said.

Barfield, a 33-year-old white male, is reported by Dodd and Haralson County officials on to have left his vehicle Highway 27 at Mormon Church Road near the unoccupied Terry's Market. He was last seen wearing a "unknown color shirt and blue jeans" according to a Haralson County 911 post on Facebook.

He "was last seen this morning by a witness between 5:30 a.m. (to) 6:00 a.m. climbing over the guard rail near the intersection and entering the woods," Haralson County's post added.

I understand this as missing again: he was located safe as reported by PD and then went missing again when supposed to return to Georgia according to above msm

We should have him missing now with a new date.

Wow! The understanding I had was he never made it home. Confusion from the very beginning.
He, his wife and children are in my thoughts and prayers.

Such a strange case. So did he actually go home, or not? I can't even imagine what his family is going thru right now :(

Seems awfully bizarre the police chief would say he returned home & packed up all his things and left again. I mean, that's kind of a huge mistake to put out there, if it never happened.

I agree.

-Mistake in reporting?

-Other sources intentionally leaving it out in an effort to keep people interested in helping look for him/getting the word out; Similar to how teen runaways often aren't reported as runaways?

(Speculating)
I would imagine at least his immediate family is at home, perhaps friends and extended family as well. It would be difficult to nearly impossible for him to have returned home, collected things and no one see or hear anything.

Again, bizarre.

The "Haralson county 911" Facebook page says of today he has been found and reunited with family. The page also responded 26 minutes ago that indeed he has been found and returned to family.

It does seem the previous post from this msm which was different from other msm posts of him returning home and gathering his things was incorrect-

Barfield's cousin Whitney Mullen told the Standard Journal during an online conversation late last night that despite previous reports he had returned home and gathered his belongings, he never showed up.

"He left his home sat morning to go get breakfast for his wife and kids and never returned. After 48 hours we were told that a police officer made contact with him and he was unharmed and okay and was supposedly coming home," Mullen said. "However this (Tuesday) morning we received a call staying that his Jeep had been found off 27 in Haralson County abandoned with the keys still in the ignition and a half tank of gas."
