Authorities say Portia Lakendra Nesbitt, 35, went missing from the Waynesboro area on Monday, July 26. She is 5-foot-2, has black hair and brown eyes, and weighs 110 pounds, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Well, while not much information was released initially, it seems like her family has a pretty good idea of what happened to Portia. She wasn't reported missing until almost a year after she was last seen.

Portia Nesbitt, 38, seemingly disappeared in 2020, about the time her boyfriend, who has a history of domestic violence, allegedly began withdrawing money from her bank account every month.

Tuesday in Burke County Superior Court, Chadwick Washington, 43, is scheduled to plead guilty to financial transaction card fraud. If he gets the same deal extended by District Attorney Jared Williams’ office last month on his probation violation case, Washington will walk out of jail a free man.

Meanwhile, Burke County Lt. James Kelly hopes to soon hear back from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab where he sent off possible biological evidence recovered from the trunk of Washington’s vehicle.

Nesbitt’s family hadn’t heard from her for nearly a year before a relative contacted the sheriff’s office to report she may be in danger and held against her will, according to the affidavit for a search warrant in July 2021 for the home where Nesbitt was living with Washington.

In February 2003, Washington hit a girlfriend in the face, and then beat her with his fist in March 2003, according to court records. He pleaded guilty to aggravated stalking in that case and received seven years of probation. The probation was revoked in July 2005 for five years after he was arrested again for family violence battery, property damage and theft.

In June 2012, Washington was sentenced to a year and a half of incarceration and 18 and a half years of probation. In that case, he beat and kicked his girlfriend in December 2010 and then while out on bond, he attacked her again in March 2011 when she suffered a broken eye socket, tears in both of ears and eyes swollen shut.

His probation was revoked in 2016 for three years after his arrest for being a convicted felon with a firearm.

According to the Department of Corrections, Washington was released in December 2019.

WAYNESBORO, Ga. – Portia Nesbitt’s disappearance didn’t matter Tuesday, Oct. 11, when her boyfriend, who has a history of domestic violence, pleaded guilty to reduced charges in the continued use of Nesbitt’s debit card after she went missing.

Judge Amanda Heath accepted the negotiated plea and sentenced Washington to one year in custody followed by two years on probation. Because she ran the two sentences concurrently to each other and to Washington’s prior felony sentences and gave him credit for the year he has been in jail, Washington will be free.

According to a police report, 43-year-old Chadwick Washington of Girard, demanded his mother come to his room to help him. When she said no, he reportedly came to the living room and told her he “was going to show her what he could do.”That’s when the woman stood up and Washington allegedly punch her in the face. She told police he wrapped his hands around her throat, and then punched her repeatedly on both sides of her chest. The woman says her son took her cell phone to keep her from calling the police.

• February 27, 2003: Two charges of family violence battery, one count of aggravated stalking.
• January 28, 2004: One count of simple battery.
• June 15, 2005: Battery, family violence; criminal trespass. Dismissed "for want of prosecution."
• January 22, 2010: Possession of marijuana--I mention this only because his mother references his violent behavior when using drugs. Probation revoked.
• December 1, 2010. Battery. Transferred to district attorney.
• December 12, 2010: Battery, simple assault. Transferred to district attorney.
• March 24, 2011: Three charges of aggravated assault, aggravated stalking, false imprisonment, aggravated battery, two probation violations.
• June 1, 2013: Battery. Dismissed in 2019. Subpoena was served on a female, TK.
• October 8, 2016: fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, driving with a suspended or revoked license, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Paroled on February 19, 2019.

• September 3, 2021: possession of cocaine and marijuana. Lumped in with the financial charges. Probation revoked on August 21, 2021, when he allegedly beat his 72 year old mother.
• May 3, 2023: exploitation and intimidation of disabled adult, elder person, or resident; hindering emergency telephone call.
