MISSING: 7-year-old boy may be with mother's boyfriend

Quamaine Finch is believed to be with Ricardo Medy, 42, who has been charged with interference with custody. Ricardo has previous ties to New Jersey, Florida, and Georgia.

Quamaine Finch's mother was taken into custody in Fulton County last week for unknown charges. The child was initially left in the care of her boyfriend, Medy, of Lawrenceville. Since that time, the Division of Family and Children's Services, or DFCS, was awarded custody of Quamaine.

Police in Gwinnett County are searching for a missing boy who is with his mother’s boyfriend, according to the boyfriend.

Seven-year-old Quamaine Finch’s mother was arrested in Fulton County last week on unreleased charges, the Gwinnett County Police Department said in a statement.

While the boy was initially left in the care of the mother’s boyfriend, Ricardo Medy, the Division of Family and Children Services has since been given custody of Finch.

When officers visited Medy’s home in unincorporated Lawrenceville on Nov. 27, he refused to answer the door and told officers over the phone that the boy was with his biological father at an unknown location, police said.

Medy, 42, is now wanted on charges of interference with custody, according to police, who secured a warrant for his arrest.

At 4:30 p.m. Monday, police said he called a member of the media, saying he had the child and that he is unharmed, according to a news release. He “does not acknowledge the warrant for his arrest or the authority of the police,” the release said.

Medy has previous ties to New Jersey and Florida, police said.

Detectives with the Special Victims Unit are handling the case.

This kind of situation always turns out bad. I’m afraid that something very bad happened to the little boy before before the officers arrived at the home. I suspect that the boyfriend who now has a warrant for his arrest is on the run from police without Quamaine.

Color me confused. According to this article he's now claiming to be the child's father:

Police are searching for Medy, 42,and the boy. According to police spokeswoman Michele Pihera, Medy said he is with the boy and that the boy is unharmed. He also claimed to be the boy’s father, and is refusing to cooperate, Pihera said.

But earlier reports say he claimed the boy was with his bio dad and that he no longer had him.

"He refused to come to the door, but we made contact with him over the phone," Gwinnett Police Corporal Michele Pihera explained. "The suspect said that he did not have custody of the child anymore and that the child was in the custody of his biological father."

From what I am reading, he seems to be protective of this child. If this child was just "the girlfriends "KID"' I think he would have turned him over. He seems to care IMO and I could be totally wrong. Let's pray not!

What a weird situation. I wonder if it could be cleared up by the mother - she'll know if her boyfriend is the bio dad. I wonder if any cameras picked up whether the boyfriend has the boy in his car. Presumably they'll tread carefully incase the boy is legally with his dad? Very odd though.
