There is a difference between protesting and rioting. Those who are rioting and looting are harming the cause.

Excellent question! I think a reasonable person would say that the officer knew it was a tazer. The tazer was identical to the one the officer was carrying and is bright yellow with a most distinctive shape. In fact in all probability he noticed it being taken away from his partner. Lets not forget about him.
But, the real question is when did the officer know the suspect had the tazer in his hand? If the officer saw the suspect running away with said tazer did he draw weapon after the tazer was pointed at him or before?

It's not like the police should be made to wait until the perp clearly shows that it's a gun and not a taser ... or wait until said perp gets a shot off ?

Once a criminal points or throws something at you it can become a fight for your life !
And I'd include bricks and knives in that assessment.

So if you throw or point anything whatsoever at an officer prepare to be met with deadly force. Is that right? I think you are going to have to explain that one a bit better.

I cannot understand the mentality of the rioters. Why are they destroying their own cities? On the other hand, the cop just gets sacked! Why not put on leave until an investigation? Who would want to be a cop in America?

Exactly this. If Mr. Brooks has not been searched, NO ONE knows what he's pointing at ANYONE.

If Mr. Brooks had tazed your grandmother, stopping her pacemaker & her heart, would that be OK? With the stolen tazer, stolen from the taxpayers of Atlanta, Fulton County, the State of Georgia, and the USA.

But it's OK for him to taze an employee of the city of Atlanta, trained & paid with taxes paid by the citizens of Atlanta, Fulton County, the State of Georgia, and the USA?

Attacking a law enforcement officer is attacking the fabric of society. That is attacking my rights, and yours.

I don’t understand how the officer can be fired without due process. No interview, not letting him tell his side of the story, just “get out”, the mob needs to pacified. Disgraceful.

Did Mr. Brooks taze anyone? I feel for everyones grandma that might have been tazed by him. But in all seriousness someones grandma is infinitely more likely to be tazed by the police than mr. Brooks.

Have you heard of the term “totality of the circumstances”, please forgive me if I’ve misstated the term I know it in spirit though and I can explain it to you if you wish. It actually relates to this case btw.

The police and civilians alike have been murdered with bricks, heavy objects, knives, etc.
If you attack a cop with a knife or brick you should be met with deadly force.
Both civilians and LE should have the right to protect themselves !

Some years ago now my friends' brother and sis-in-law were killed with a heavy object and baseball bats during a home invasion.
This family had a tradition of open caskets for their relatives, but could not for their murdered loved ones as the damage was too significant.
An object can maim and kill just as much as a gun.

No LE should have to wait and see if the person attacking them only has a brick or bat.

Who says you guys are never around when you really need one ! Glad you are here! Can we have your thoughts on why or why not lethal force was justified in this case? I am particularly interested in the term officer discretion because I must admit I dont know the limits of it. If you have time maybe you could educate all of us.

You don't freak out and grab LE's taser (query : Was Brooks trying to get the gun and missed ?) and run away-- firing the taser as you go --- if you've done nothing wrong !

Brooks had a guilty conscience about something.

Yes, really? They have taken over an area of Seattle now. No one seems to even care.

And last night, the freeway system in Atlanta was shut down because of protesters in the road. And there wasn't anything LEO could do about it.

When a person invests nothing in a city, they may not care if it burns down.
