Amber Alert issued for 1-year-old Georgia girl taken in carjacking

DeKalb County Amber Alert press conference

Police are searching for a missing girl who was taken during a carjacking in Stone Mountain, GA

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - DeKalb County police have issued an Amber Alert for a 1-year-old girl who was taken during a carjacking early Thursday morning.

Officials say the carjacking happened around 2 a.m. as a woman was making a food delivery on the 1,200 block of Harvest Dale Court in Stone Mountain.

Police say the woman's daughter 1-year-old Royalty Grisby was asleep inside the running car at the time.

Royalty's mother Elizabeth Grisby heard the car door close and tried to run to stop the suspects, but they drove off before she could get to her vehicle.

The vehicle, a maroon 2010 Nissan Armada with a Mississippi tag, was found abandoned shortly after 9 a.m. in a nearby neighborhood. Police say neither the suspects nor the young girl were found.

"We have a 1-year-old child out there who's not with her mother. We fear for her well-being and her safety. Every second is critical," DeKalb County Police Department Capt. Brian DeLoach said.

"I just want my baby home. I don't care about nothing in the car. I don't care about all of that stuff. I just want my baby. That's all I'm worried about," Grisby said through tears at a press conference.

Royalty was last seen wearing a pink jacket, purple shirt, and white, purple, and pink socks. She also had a pink pacifier.

Police say they believe the two suspects were men, but have no other descriptions at the time. They also believe they may be on foot.

If you have any information about where Royalty could be, please call 911 immediately.
This is odd. They usually they drop the kid off or leave the kid in the vehicle. They want the car, not the kid.

I have never carjacked a vehicle. But I can only imagine that if carjacking was the motive, they would have kept the car and left the baby. But just the opposite happened here. Don’t know what to think. MOO
I'm so glad you've never carjacked a vehicle! But yes I agree with you, they'd take the car and leave the baby, or dump the baby as soon as they realised she was there, which I would imagine would be very quickly!

If she had keyless entry the key lob would have a panic button.

"I always work in this area ... I had my keys in my pocket. And the only reason I didn't lock the door is because ... I was in a nice neighborhood," the mother said through tears.

Deloach said the car was still running when the mom got out of the vehicle but she had the keys to her push-to-start car on her.

"She attempted to get back to the car and stop the individuals, but they did not stop," Deloach said.

"As soon as I went to put the food down I just heard someone running and then I heard the door close," the mother described.

She said when she turned around the truck was going down the street with baby Grisby in the car.

I came in late here but I've read through the articles and I don't find where it was reported that Royalty's mother parked the car in the driveway. Can you or anyone shed some light on that?

I definitely see tears. She looks and sounds devastated and I see no reason to insinuate her involvement in Royalty's disappearance. If she wanted to get rid of her child, I can think of a hundred different ways that would be easier to go about it. o_O MOO

Could it be that without the keys, the car would eventually be useless? Not sure why they would then take the car seat and child (who I would guess would be crying and upset) - I would think they would need another vehicle with them to do that.

I'm going to be as open to all possibilities at this point and ignore my hinky meter for awhile.

Priority: find the child.

Who was the last person, other than mom, who saw the baby?

I find nothing reported about the driveway. I also found her credible. She is speaking out for her child immediately. That usually doesn’t happen in parental involved child disappearances.I did find this:

Police issued an Amber Alert for 1-year-old Royalty Grisby, who was in the backseat of the vehicle as it was stolen in front of a home on the 1200 block of Harvest Dale Court in Stone Mountain. The vehicle was found off Young road in Stone Mountain around 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police say the driver was attempting to deliver food at the home around 2 a.m. and left the child inside the vehicle. That's when the two suspects jumped in and took off.

They are searching for this 14 year old who they believe is involved. They think the food order was a setup.
