How is it possible to drive a keyless car away, if the keys are not in it? My Santa Fe is keyless and if the keys are not within a certain radius of the car, the car cannot be driven.
I have an Armada keyless entry, if you start the car and drive away without the key, the car doesn't shut off. But once you turn the car off you can't restart it.

"I always work in this area ... I had my keys in my pocket. And the only reason I didn't lock the door is because ... I was in a nice neighborhood," the mother said through tears.

Deloach said the car was still running when the mom got out of the vehicle but she had the keys to her push-to-start car on her.

"She attempted to get back to the car and stop the individuals, but they did not stop," Deloach said.

"As soon as I went to put the food down I just heard someone running and then I heard the door close," the mother described.

She said when she turned around the truck was going down the street with baby Grisby in the car.

If you have the keys in your pocket, can you stop the vehicle? (I don't have keyless entry).

If baby was the target its someone close who knows her schedule or if she always delivers to that area maybe a frequent client.

How was it a set up? Did the orderers of the food know that she would have the baby with her? How would they even know who was delivering the food at 2 am if it was through a delivery service? (I would think that most people would never expect a baby to be in a delivery car, especially at that time of night.)

Most likely it was someone that lives at Harvest Dale Court in Stone Mountain GA. Crime of opportunity. Probably a teenager and his friend.
If you look on google earth it’s a one way in and one way out development.
There’s no reason someone would be there walking unless visiting someone or lives there.

I agree. Then he takes the baby in the car seat, and changes the license plates? I’m lost.

Teens are so impulsive! They are apt to just leave the baby somewhere/anywhere and run.

7 hours had elapsed between the time Royalty was kidnapped and the car was found. MOO

Or he could have used that address and called in the order then waiting for the delivery person to arrive.

They are searching for this 14 year old who they believe is involved. They think the food order was a setup.
I'm curious how they identified the suspect. Perhaps he has a record and they found fingerprints.?

Yes! I can’t imagine this 14 year old is the brains of this operation.

From the 11Alive article:
“"Just bring her home," Grisby's mother said. "You can take her to the hospital, take her to a store, just bring her home. She didn't do anything," the mom pleaded during the conference.” (BBM-Bolded By Me)

My thoughts: What does that have to do with it? Do people steal vehicles because they think that the baby inside did something to them? Does mom think that the vehicle was stolen because the 14 year old child is mad at her, so she says the baby didn’t do anything - meaning it’s not the babies fault? I just don’t get it.

Maybe she just means that the baby doesn’t deserve whatever it is that happened to her. That would be true.

I wonder if someone coerced the 14-year-old into driving off in the car and leaving it close by. We know that gangs often use children to commit crimes. Something stinks! MOO

Amber Alert | Police say 14-year-old wanted in connection with kidnapping of 1-year-old

I bet his family or friend lives in the neighborhood.

Right, but how you could be sure you could then steal a car? You wouldn't know if a big guy would show up to deliver instead of a young woman. You wouldn't know if more than one adult showed up for delivery. You wouldn't know the car would be left running.

I could see a fake order so you could rob the delivery person of cash (but most transactions are likely online now, not cash) or to steal a car under threat and demands for the keys....but that's not how it happened.

I'm confused.

I am hoping he only wanted to take the car for a joy ride. Realized a child was in the car and took the baby to keep her safe until he could figure out what to do. God, I hope this is the case. IMO

One possibility is the 14yo happened upon the running car and on impulse took it. But what did he do with the baby?

But if they think the delivery was a set up, then this wasn't impulse.

My hunch is they will figure out what happened with the delivery/car, and I hope they can also quickly find the baby. I'm gripped by this case and want that baby safe.

She did say she regularly delivered to that area. I also have had deliveries where they left the car running, Including Amazon vans. IMO

Changing the tags pretty much says they planned on a longer ride but that’s probably when they discovered the baby.

Is there another parent behind this set-up? Maybe pissed off that they haven't seen their baby in awhile/has lost a custody battle and thought this was a way to get the baby back?
