I have talked to her many times and she has also come to me for help but he brings his WHOLE family down. The families are way too over involved in each others lives. Oh the stories I could tell! His brother told her that he would send her back to India in separate parts in carrier bags if she didnt "toe the line" so to speak. She is the only neighbour not allowed to participate when we have barbecues etc for example....he says Western influence is "bad".

If Western influence is so bad, tell him to take his ass back to whereever he came from. We were doing just fine before he got her and we'll be fine when his fat butt leaves. And his wife is just as bad. If she's not willing to help herself, too damn bad. All she's got to do is make a 911 call. If she can't handle that, she's where she needs to be. Sorry. I have ZERO sympathy for women willing to be a dog to any man.

Actually Jeana..the wife did call the police several times but he somehow talked his way out of it. At one point I phoned them as she was screaming so bad and came out of the house showing me bruises on her legs. After the Police left, he took the two older kids and locked her in the house with the baby and went to his family's house. They have no house phone and he took the mobile phone with him so she came out the back of the house begging me to call the Police to make him bring the kids back. I had to give her money as she had no nappies or gas in the house. I think he was trying to teach her a lesson of what would happen if she did not comply.

She went to the family's house with the Police and the family refused to open the door. She said she could hear the kids inside and she was crying and calling their names through the letterbox but the Police said she would have to fight for the kids through the courts as they were married and he had done nothing wrong by taking them to his family's.
She came back without them sobbing and sobbing and I just didnt know what to say. Her English is very very limited.

These women are under intense pressure within these families and with limited english and no phone and no freedom, I just dont think its that easy for them to escape

Jeana, Ciara lives in the UK. There is absolutely nothing even remotely funny about this thread, but when I saw Jeana's response I'm chuckling to myself. She can't call 911. LOL I don't think they use that system.

Ciara, is there a legal or cultural advocacy group for Indian woman she go to for help that she may not know about? Getting support from someone of her own culture who could explain the facts of the law to her or direct her to groups and organisations who can help may empower her to leave.

though i've never been in this situation to be able to understand the women, and i understand how heartbreaking it would be to be disowned...sometimes i think it might be a blessing. even in our own families sometimes its a blessing to be disowned and we find others that aren't blood related that are more family to us than those that are.

These "honor" killings are disgusting, and if they don't like Western influence they shouldn't move to where Western influence is. Keep there sexist cr@p in their own countries, it's bad enough there. If they're here they need to abide by our rules. The LAW over their religions.

She did get this info but not sure how helpful she found it. She left for a few weeks but after lots of "family" meetings she returned. Things have calmed down abit since then but I still hear them at it sometimes. The Police were there again the other week after a really bad episode of her screaming and the kids screaming but its been quiet again since. They are both at home all day as neither of them work so it can get crazy sometimes.

After years being taught to be a terrorist and to hate America they are brainwashed, do we want them back in the USA? I don't know. I feel really bad for the mother but these boys are dangerous, they may even kill her to get back at her for taking them away from Pakistan.

I think they should be evaluated by a good doctor and shrink. Before they are allowed out and about.

Not only is Great Britain forced to be tolerant of "alien" cultures practiced there, we are also force fed that we must also be tolerant and understanding. Muslims in particular. Now we have heard of three, I believe, honor killings. The one in Texas, the one now in Georgia, and wasn't there one in California? Didn't the father kill the family and flee? I may be wrong about this one though.

So, because the status of women under Islamic law is equal to that of ownership of of your living room sofa in Western culture, should it be tolerated in the US? It is permisible under Islamic law to perform an honor killing. Does that mean we should not prosecute him for murder. In his culture it isn't murder. Will tolerance one day go this far? It's disgusting and frightening.

A Pakistani-born Jonesboro man admitted in court Friday that he killed his daughter in 2008, but said he was acting out of passion.

A Clayton County jury took about four hours to convict Chaudhry Rashid, 59, of the July 2008, strangulation death of his only daughter, Sandeela Kanwal, 25.

Judge Albert Collier sentenced Rashid to life in prison, with the possibility of parole.
