Some Richrd Possibilities:

A)) Cause of Death - Asphyxia
Manner of Death - Accidental
Mechanism of Death - Respiratory Depression resulting in Paralysis

B)) The accidental Liquid Nitrogen surplus in the workplace would have boiled, (-320°F :: -195°C) producing Nitrogen Gas, and
displacing the 21% Oxygen needed for Life.
[Room Air is 78% Nitrogen & 21% Oxygen]

Omg. How awful. He had been shot in the face during a drug call 15 years ago, according to link above. Prayers for his family.

Although the OSHA quote below describes shipyard work hazards, it shows the narrow acceptable range for oxygen levels in the workplace. A range of two or two and a half percent. ~ 2+ %. Wow.

I wonder what specifically allowed the imbalance in the air/atmosphere in that location. A broken/leaky chemical tank? Seems there would be warning signs posted in areas where ppl could be affected.

Another LEO rushing in to help, and dying in the line of duty.
RIP Deputy Sheriff. Thoughts & prayers for your family friends, and community.

https://www.osha.gov/SLTC/etools/shipyard/shiprepair/confinedspace/oxygendeficient.html

"Oxygen-deficient atmospheres are the leading cause of confined space fatalities in the shipyard. While normal atmosphere contains between 20.8 and 21 percent oxygen, OSHA defines as oxygen deficient any atmosphere that contains less than 19.5 percent oxygen, and as oxygen enriched, any atmosphere that contains more than 22 percent.

Oxygen-deficient atmospheres may be created when oxygen is displaced by inerting gases, such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen, argon, or the ship's inert gas system or firefighting system. Oxygen can also be consumed by rusting metal, ripening fruits, drying paint, or coatings, combustion, or bacterial activities.

Oxygen-enriched atmospheres may be produced by certain chemical reactions, but in a shipyard they are typically caused by leaking oxygen hoses and torches. Oxygen enriched atmospheres present a significant fire and explosion risk

Per below, 1992 - 2002, in US 80 ppl died from accidental nitrogen asphyxiation.
Is ^ the exact same cause as Deputy Meagher? Or could his death have been caused by something else?

___________________________________________________________________________________
"....U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board, at least 80 people died due to accidental nitrogen asphyxiation between 1992 and 2002. Most of these incidents occurred in industrial, plants, laboratories, and medical facilities.
Further, the board says that "breathing an oxygen deficient atmosphere can have serious and immediate effects, including unconsciousness after only one or two breaths. The exposed person has no warning and cannot sense that the oxygen level is too low."
"....Based on what we know about Xytex, they are a company that provides cryopreservation for cells and tissues. They store a number of different specimens including cord blood, embryo, eggs, ovarian tissue, and sperm." sbm bbm http://www.26nbc.com/content/news/OYS-What-is-liquid-nitrogen-and-how-is-it-dangerous-412866953.html.
