BUT!!! Letting the hot air out FIRST makes more sense! What do you all consider south?

I'm just saying what works for me. I can't stand hot air blowing on my face when I can have cold air from the A/C hitting me instead.

I live in California. It gets hot here too.

Seriously? And you never thought letting the HOT air out FIRST might make you car cooler when you start your car? I am almost 40 and have lived in the south my ENTIRE life. We always roll our windows down to let the hot air out. Then we roll them up and start the ac. I can't even imagine a true southern NOT doing this... it is common place around these parts.

The short answer is no, and I am so not going to argue about rolling windows down v. a/c!

I have lived here for many years and I can't think of anybody who I drive with who rolls down their windows when they start to drive.

I don't know what many years are, but I will tell you... If you get in a HOT car, OPEN the windows first, leave the doors open for a quick minute if you can. Then close the doors, start the car, start the AC, then close the windows. It makes a WORLD of difference in your comfort!

I would rather poke my left eye out with a rusty fork then ever set foot in AZ in the summer.

I agree.

Especially, if you can roll them down and drive fast for a few blocks ...;)

I'm in Texas and when I get in the car, I just leave the door open a few extra seconds while the AC is on. I don't drive like that. But speaking of, this week I had to take 2 dogs to the vet. It was bout 10 a.m. when we left to come home , a 30 minute ride. It was maybe 85 to 88 degrees during the ride home in bright sun. And I had the air blasting full steam , past me and straight to them in between the seats. They were in the back seat. When we got home, they were both so hot and panting and came in straight to the water . I was worried about them that they got so heated up , even though I was with them, car was moving and AC was on as high as it would go. After drinking, they lay across the wood floor and collected themselves for 10 or 20 minutes before they could function and proceed with their day. FWIW .

Alrighty then. Sorry I made you angry.

From what I've read, it is prudent to have the windows rolled down a bit for a few seconds when you first turn your car's A/C on. It lets the nasty chemicals out from all the plastics that have been heating up inside the warm car (i.e. benzene).

I'm not sure all those nasty chemicals would evacuate your car by rolling your windows down for a few seconds. JMO.

I can't either. But I'm going to take a straw poll on Monday :)

Here in Tennessee, most of us do the same thing. I have a Kia Soul and the FIRST thing I do is open the car door, turn the key a bit, open the sun roof and all four windows, then I start the car.

It was near a 100 degree F when I finally started my car today. I swear sometimes, my car is so hot, I get cold chills. As weird as that sounds.

Waving to you from Tennessee also!!:blushing:

Thanks, but the AC in my car cools me off in no more than 30 seconds--maybe less, I haven't timed it, lol. Maybe it just depends on the car.

Well, read up on it when you get a chance, specifically benzene inside cars on a warm day.

WREG out of Memphis just reported on tv that a toddler was rescued today by breaking the window out of a vehicle....two people arrested...child in the hospital.............:tantrum:

Angry? No way. I'm one of the last to get angry people you'll ever meet. Roll down those windows to your heart's content. Whatever makes you happy. I'm totally not being snarky. That's why I said I'm not going to argue about this issue. I would never, ever be angry about it :)

It maybe does depend somewhat on the car. I have a huge old car that was made in a country where it's hardly ever hot and can be very cold. The a/c is suckish. Still, I'm good in 3-4 minutes, tops. lol

So another thing about LH reaction that has been bugging me. I was married to a complete narcissist who was living a secret life before and after our marriage. We had a realationship spanning 15 yrs. It took me YEARS to finally come out of the fog I had been living in and to realize things I knew as truth were lies and vice/versa. It is a total mind mess to live with someone like that. But the whole time my main concern was making him happy/not upsetting him, squelching my own life and wishes because he projected his faults as mine.
My first thoughts about LH were GUILTY but then some detail/fact made me think otherwise. This is a woman who may not have control over her life and has been mentally and emotionally tortured by his infidelities blaming herself and maybe the child. Again MOO and not necessarily condoning the actions.

Maybe, the car I currently have is black, the truck I had before was white and my 'roommates' have red cars. We still all do the same thing with each vehicle, but it COULD be more out of habit then necessity.

So funny...we really show our ages....
"Roll down the windows" lol

My son asked me the other day all annoyed why I say "roll" ...and informed me it sounds silly.

From the kid who has simply pushed a button his entire life...eyeroll.

To be honest, this entire A/C vs rolling down windows first convo is cracking me right up for some reason. I must be more tired than I thought. :giggle:

Before auto start, I would open my door, get in, put the windows down & A/C on...drive a few blocks then close the windows.

Yep! When I lived in Miami I did the same, as did everyone I knew. I'd get those windows down and put the a/c on max.
