did you see the list of the 19 states that have laws against leaving kids in cars??


the one that I read for Texas was excellent - very straightforward you can be fined and if there is harm to the child there is jail time from 6 months to 2 yrs.

Georgia has no law yet.

Gotta love Texas law sometimes.

Florida, even has a section about what to do in the event one comes upon this situation... and how the child can be turned over to CPS.

I want to know why Harris initially drove south rather than north towards his home when he left work. Was he heading south to meet up with his friends? If so, why turn around and go north again and stop in a shopping center? He had his phone with him. He could have pulled over anywhere and called 911.

I also want to know why he lied to LE when they asked him if his car had been left unattended all day. He said it had been, but they discovered that he returned to his car around lunch time, opened the door, and placed something inside the car.

Can you give the link that says he left his car unattended all day? I had not heard that.

He is charged with Felony murder and Child Cruelty in the 2nd degree.

I think the other poster was discussing specific laws pertaining to leaving children in cars that could also be not only applied but used as a message to the public

"If you leave your child in the car, AT ALL EVER, for 2 minutes or hours while running in the store, there are laws against it. Specific laws. Other states have them, GA does not. That is what the OP was speaking too.

Laws sometimes serve as a way to create public awareness about a social problem, as they are a reaction to a particular pattern of behavior exhibited by some members of the public.

I am of the opinion the fewer laws the better. We will have to agree to disagree.

The parking lot is not covered... so outside.

There was a very lengthy discussion on the windows and one of the posters that has the same SUV posted a lot, and there were pictures... but that was in either threads 1, 2 or 3.. they are all running together now.

The warrant said he was heading to meet friends... but even if he was heading home, in earlier threads some of the locals explained that the quickest way home during rush-hour was turning the way he did...

IDK, but I need something. This case has me reeling.

There are absolutely clear motives on CSI and Law and Order. in real life, parents kill their children all the time and more often than not, there is no clear motive.

Well, we don't know what they have.
They may have plenty for an arrest and just need the tech equipment to solidify the case.

I don't consider it a rush to arrest if they had what they needed to arrest him. They continue to build the case after the arrest.

I keep thinking of this statement:

“What I know about this case shocks my conscience as a police officer, a father, and a grandfather.”

IMO if it's enough to shock the conscience of this man, it may just be enough for a speedy arrest. Maybe the information is so damning, not arresting him quickly would have been the WRONG thing to do.

I would agree provided there was evidence that common sense was more common.

Sad to think that we have to legislate ''common sense''

If you think of the driver as the captain of the plane/ship responsible for the safe passage and disembarkation of the passengers it's obvious he/she should make sure same number disembark as were loaded right?

I see this childseat/abandonment issue as simply that '' negligence of the operator'' plain and simple.

If we see this first as a driving issue it makes easier to deal with -- no motive required.

Amen. People think if there are more laws it helps things but it doesn't. I don't care if you don't wear your seatbelt but then you should not get the same benefit as people who do. To me people should have choices.. Even ones to be stupid.

Oh Scarlett, I'm that mom that kept my boys (now ages 8, 8 and 9) rear facing past the age that was recommended at the time AND had every one of their carseats installed by our local fire station.

By sad, I meant that looking at those pictures of smiling children made me sad for Cooper. My guys use to get so excited at that age when I strapped them into their seats because they loved car rides.

Just because we disagree on the intent of RH, please don't think I disagree with you about the importance of recommendations of car seats and their proper placement :blowkiss:

I have been personally involved with a narcissist and let me tell you what quesarita said is SO true. You are ashamed because you feel so stupid for having been played so many times - and it has nothing to do with how smart you are or how much common sense you have. They know how to push your buttons, how to charm you, how to work your guilt -- until you wise up and have the strength to cut off all contact. Most of the time, you have to be so worn down by then that you are either extremely angry & disgusted with the person or just... numb and "done." I was also involved with TWO narcissists (years apart). When I first read this I read it wrong and thought you said ABDUCTION instead of ADDICTION. I would have to say my situation felt more like an abduction!
