OCILLA, Ga. (Crime Library) — Acting on what they describe as promising tips, friends, relatives and volunteers are planning to resume their search this weekend for missing schoolteacher and former beauty queen Tara Grinstead.

Larry Gattis, the missing woman's brother-in-law, declined Wednesday to describe the precise location of the search, but acknowledge that the teams, aided by cadaver dogs, would be dispatched to areas of two counties next to Irwin County, where Grinstead lived and where she was last seen some five months ago.

As in other recent searches, the targeted locations will be announced on Saturday when searchers arrive in Ocilla. Gattis has said that the family has insisted on the secrecy because they worry that advance notice might tip off any potential suspects.

So far, authorities have declined to identify any potential suspects in the case that began on Oct. 22, when 31-year-old Grinstead vanished after returning home from the annual Sweet Potato Festival and dinner with friends. Despite a series of massive searches, aided in some cases by high-tech aerial surveillance equipment provided by the nationally known search and rescue operation Texas EquuSearch, authorities say they have found no evidence that conclusively points to Grinstead's fate. The case officially remains a missing person probe. Although authorities have not identified any potential suspects, they have interviewed, in some cases several times, men in Grinstead's life — including her former longtime boyfriend. All have insisted that they had no role in her disappearance.

But the lingering mystery over the young woman's whereabouts has fueled intense local and national interest. In just the past few days, several national television news programs, including NBC's "Dateline," have compiled reports on the probe.

And in recent weeks, family members have also drawn support from criminology professor Maurice Godwin, a professor who specializes in geographic profiling, and have turned to psychics, including Court TV's psychic profiler Carla Baron.

Based in part on information provided by them, and on tips from the public, teams of searchers last week scoured some ponds and swamps in the region, Gattis said. Divers probed two sections of a murky 32-foot deep pond that matched a description given to them by Baron, and cadaver dogs were also deployed. "That pond does fit some of the characteristics that Carla had talked to us about," Gattis said. "She said we wouldn't find Tara there, but we may find some clues." While data from that search is still being analyzed and has yet to yield any solid clues, Gattis said there was cause for further investigation. "We had dog alerts on one pond, and we're still in the process of trying to find out what the dogs hit on," Gattis said. "We're sending some water samples off to see if there's any chemicals that might have made the dogs hit."

Ocilla -- Over the weekend, search crews canvassed land and checked 24 ponds in Ben Hill County. Cadaver dogs indicated they found something suspicious in one of them, so a dive team thoroughly checked it Monday.

They found no signs of Grinstead, and decided it will not be necessary to drain the pond.

I would like to know more about the 20 phone calls please.
If it was said that Tara recieved phone calls and stated that the calls were girls thanking her,why would she not acknowledge the 20 frantic phone calls from 1 person?
The 20 calls bothers me.Were the calls stationary or were they made from various cell towers.
Can I please have more info on this matter.

I believe the 20 phone calls is erroneous..8-9 calls on the Sunday after she disappeared. Dr. Godwin has Heath Dykes cell phone records.HD had reason to worry about Tara as she was a trusted friend of his.The reason she didn't answer the calls is because she was already dead IMO.

No one but the perp spoke with Tara after 11 PM Sat. 10-22-05. The next day is when people started to worry. Her mom couldn't reach her, Heath, other friends etc.

I have heard that Marcus Harper wouldn't release his records but authorities may have them anyway. Dr. G wants to do a triangulation on cell towers for all the people.

Did anyone watch Greta tonight? Her promo said something about the case of the murdered Beauty Queen being solved. Was this about Tara Grinstead?

Tara is still missing. But big searches are being done today and yesterday. Alligator dens and other icky situations. Please pray for any evidence of her. Remember cadaver dogs hit on where they are searching.

Thanks to both you and Chico. It will be soon. Alligators swallow whole as in small mammals but not in adult humans. There will be some evidence.Anita got physically sick thinking it was business as normal. This family is suffering so much.It is time. I got an email from Gov. Sonny Perdue and he is on this.He expressed a lot and it wasn't a form letter.I also talked with the US Marshall's service and they directed me to the next level. So, this is a solvable case. But, Tara, isn't coming home. Damn it everyday.....so useless and so much that we see.Why oh why do people do this to others?

Hi Concernedperson,
I do not mean to sound morbid,I am angling the science favor based on your statement about the alligators.
Has anyone from the Audubon Socitey or anyone from the nature conservation checked the stomach contents of any of the alligators. There must be some evidance of DNA.

They are destructing the alligator dens. The gators have left. Hoping for leftover evidence in the dens and in the pond.

This has to be pure hell for Tara's family. All of the ups and downs...the hope and fears. I hope they don't find her in the alligator dens. Her family shouldn't have to live with something like that and all of the questions it would create.
I know my mind would just run wild.

It's to bad someone doesn't take that ex-boyfriend out in the woods and choke him until he is willing to tell them where Tara is. I just know that he has the answer to her disappearance. Anyone know how to put a spell on him? Like with one of those voodo dolls

I wish I could but I spend most of my time praying. It is has got to be over soon. Faye, Tara's mom is not well. The facts of this case are bad. Unfortunately,l have to keep my mouth shut. I would rather speculate as I just want my friends around me.

Aligators are very prevelent around this area. Which one of thousands would you check? And, in what body of water would you start?

Sorry to hear about Tara's mom, cp. I spent a lot of time thinking about Tara and her family & friends yesterday. How rough this must be on them all, especially during holidays, like Easter; on which loved ones are such an integral part. I said a couple prayers for them, too. It's not much, but it's about the best thing I can think of to do.

Hopefully a resolution to Tara's case will come soon.
