GA GA - Tony Lamar Cates, 50, Truck Found, Lumpkin Co, 10 May 2021

  • #21
Tony Cates is the cousin of my son's coworker. We started chatting at their store the other evening, and she told me had a dream about her cousin. She said he had been missing for several months, and she felt like she was the only one who even cared that he is missing. She said he is an addict, and she feels like that fact is what is causing the authorities, the community, and even some of their family to sort of give up on him. Unfortunately, this is so common. In the area where we live, substance abuse is extremely prevalent. I have worked at a local women's rehab facility, and have seen this, firsthand.
I told my son's coworker that I would try to help out with the search, in whatever way I can. I heard about websleuths through John Lordan on YouTube (Brainscratch, Search Light, and Case Cracked), so I thought I'd check in here to see if his case is even being talked about. I'm happy to see that there are still people who care about finding missing people, even if those people have been written off because of substance abuse. Addicts are people, they weren't always abusing drugs, they have families who love them and miss them.

If anyone has heard of any updates, please let me know! I'm excited to be able to tell her tonight when I see her, that there really are caring people out there who are doing what they can to help find her cousin.

@MamaHott Welcome to Websleuths

What a honest and heartfelt first post.
I try to regularly check for any updates on Tony, as I’m sure other Websleuths members do as well.

It gets discouraging at times when a missing person’s case seems to come to a stand still. I can’t imagine what family and friends go through when a loved one disappears.

....
Are you aware whether any searches were done for Tony?

I came across a post from his daughter, dated December 5, 2021. Unfortunately, Tony is still missing and there hasn’t been a single update/lead. :(

I live in a rural area in a different state. It’s pretty common around here to use church parking lots as a place to meet up with someone… or example, buying/selling items on marketplace. Maybe this was a drug transaction or maybe Tomy met someone there and got into that person’s vehicle.

I would hope the area around the church has been searched…
