Found Deceased GA - Tosha Herron, 36, Lavonia, 6 Oct 2016

  • #141
Welcome, Stacie! I am so sorry for the reason you have come here, I hope you will see that there are many people who are following Tosha's story and praying for her return. Thanks for clarifying the pings. I recalled seeing that her personal items were found near the crash, but missed that her purse was among them. Wondering if her cell phone was recovered. Knowing that area a little, I think it was nothing short of a miracle that y'all were able to locate her car that night. Glad to hear the GBI is involved. Just posting the most recent report.

This is Tosha's sister and I wanted to clear something up for all of you that was a huge mystery for us as well. The 11:30pm ping in Lavonia actually happened at 7:30 PM EST. The 11:30pm was another time zone and we didn't figure that out until several days later. So her phone pinged in Lavonia in 7:30PM and then when we got the detailed phone records and there were two more pings in Demorest GA around 8:50PM which confirmed to us which route she took from Lavonia to Blue Ridge and we followed that at night with a spot light and that's how we found her car.

Please see her FB page below to follow the details that I update regularly. I have also posted a full story with a detailed timeline of the situation.

Please keep praying and sharing.

Are they having ground searches in the area of the crash. With the plants going dormant it might be easier to search.

The Dec 5 update that Lisa linked up above said the GBI and the National Guard did more extensive ground searches last week but didn't find any more clues. I don't know if that area of the mountains gets snow or not but it is getting colder and they might not be able to search again this year. :(

So sad for Tosha's family having to endure not knowing what happened to her. I hope they get some clues and a resolution soon. Did they ever get the DNA tests back?
I didn't hear about the DNA tests.

I know right. The kudzu is dying off! From the linky it seems they had an extensive search.

It was in an update on the help find fb page from Nov 8th that they were waiting on DNA test results. But I never saw if they came back and it has been a month today. Maybe they still have not come back or maybe they didn't tell them anything significant.

...or aren't sharing the results for whatever reason.

That's possible too! Maybe that is why the GBI got involved? Would the GBI get involved in a case of a missing car crash victim?

It seems from this link
https://gbi.georgia.gov/
they are mainly involved in criminal investigations.

I am sure there is more that we the public don't know.
I do find it incredibly sad if Tosha survived the car accident that something happened to her after that.

Just marking my spot here as I was wondering if anything had developed in the disappearance of this lady, but I couldn't recall her name.

I hope she turns up soon.

I'm beginning to wonder if she was actually in a car accident or not. I know they said the grass was matted down and looked like she had crawled out and there was a little blood in the car but not enough blood to conclude she died in the crash...What if she stopped for someone and they hit her to knock her out--causing the little bit of blood in her car. Then they pushed the car down the cliff? But they never found Tosha's purse, correct? What if the perp or someone else crawled INTO the car to grab her purse out after it was crashed? Then it would look similar to someone crawling out of the car. This may all seem so far fetched but if she is not on the mountain I don't know what to think...It seems so unlikely she would survive a random crash only to be randomly abducted. Unless there is evidence another car forced her off the road and then the abductor went and pulled her out of the car...but seems too risky...no way for a perp to know if she would survive a crash like that if he wanted to abduct her. IDK. :scared:

Anything is possible still and at this point.

To re-create the "share" functionality that TH used the night before her trip, go to your FB timeline and Click the "Share" link on the bottom right of a post or photo post:

Selection_019.png

That'll pop up a menu, you can now simply select 'Share Now (Public)' to recreate what TH did

Selection_020.png

This promotes older posts to be current on your timeline, but it'll say "Shared By" with you as the sharer.

You can also click 'Share' on that above menu to get another menu with more options:

Selection_022.png

but I think TH probably just hit the 'Share Now (Public)' link on the 2nd image.

Saw this case on r/MissingPersons on reddit and looked it up over here, as I recently spent about 10 days hiking up and down Blood Mountain and the trails and hills nearby. Had to get off the trail for a couple days, when storms were coming in, as they had not had rain down there in months and the lack of rain = dried out trees. Combine dry trees with the insanely high winds and the rain the storms brought in (same storms that lit up Gatlinburg to the North) and it's dangerous to be hiking underneath the trees in those conditions.

Anyhow, the road she was on is incredibly scenic in the Fall, with the Fall colors, but notoriously dangerous:

Deadliest Curve on Blood Mountain, Georgia https://youtu.be/AG5OkVQ8Xts

Deals Gap Trip Blood Mountain: https://youtu.be/AG5OkVQ8Xts

several other videos of 129 around Blood Mountain on youtube as well. Saw many white crosses with flowers and some with names on em at various points along 129 and other mountain roads.

I think 129 has more issues with accidents than the equally windy and hilly Richard Russell Scenic Biway because GPS/WAZE systems and most local folks appear to use 129 as the major thoroughfare there. While folks driving Richard Russell, from what I could tell, were mostly out for a "sunday drive" and not in as much of a hurry to get anywhere.

These gps systems default to the "shortest" geographic and presumably shortest time route. When I left the Blood Mountain area on the last day of my trip, I expected the WAZE lady to send me on 74 back to Cleveland (TN) and meet up with 75 there--a mildly hilly but consistently 55 mph drive that I followed coming into the Blairsville/Blood Mountain area.

Instead, the WAZE lady took me up 19 to 294 to 68. I'd driven into the Blood Mountain area via 74, and so was familiar with it. But I trusted the WAZE lady and took the 19-294-68 route through Coker Creek to meet up with I-75 south of Knoxville.

Big mistake. It was later in the day on Friday when I started. And so pitch black by the time I got too far along to turn around and retreat to the more familiar, easier 74 route. A lot of hairpin, 15 mph turns, up and down and around guard-rail-less mountain roads in pitch black conditions (no rain or fog tho, thankfully); and very few vehicles on the road. The few vehicles I encountered, until I got to Telico (out of the mtns, basically), seemed to be locals in jacked-up trucks who'd ride my arse til either they turned off or I found a spot to pull over and get out of their way.

If TH crashed at night and made it to a road to flag down a passing vehicle, odds are it'd have been someone at least somewhat local to the area. But that could be someone from Gainseville and/or other nearby towns as well I suppose.

Also possible TH's accident--car lights noisily cascading down the side of a ravine--was witnessed by someone nearby and they made the effort to go down to her vehicle and bring her back out of the ravine.

re: TH's new boyfriend moving from Blue Ridge to Hilton Head in recent weeks.

If Blue Ridge is like other small, North George/South Appalachian mountain towns, work there is very seasonal and tourism based. It's possible this guy works in Blue Ridge part of the year, and then goes to Hilton Head, which I think has year around tourism, during Blue Ridge's off-season.

Wow. So you are saying all those posts were shared automatically and she didn't have to stay up all night making posts? That is one big mystery solved! I never knew that was possible. Thank you!
