On-scene reporters say the crowd of protesters has been orderly.

(watching cnn or msnbc)

Sirens, dogs, billyclubs: How NOT to prevent a riot. They do nothing but incite, and get the crowd's emotions all riled. WTH?

It's ridiculous. This country is starting to feel like a police state :(

I'm so glad you're all here. I can always count on it that when something that is painful to me is going on, some of my fellow sleuthers will be here, and I am grateful for that, grateful for you.

Peaceful & orderly protest for #TroyDavis-police keep beefing up their team. Please no matter the outcome, don't justify their actions.

This situation really scares me. One injustice done if he is executed and then i can see a scene like this easily getting violent for NO reason except that one cop (or more) is a racist there!
I really hope things stay peaceful.....

Frightening...Scalia has said there's nothing unconstitutional about executing an innocent person.

Joined by Justice Clarence Thomas in dissent, however, Justice Antonin Scalia criticized his colleagues for thinking that mere innocence is grounds to overturn a conviction:

This Court has never held that the Constitution forbids the execution of a convicted defendant who has had a full and fair trial but is later able to convince a habeas court that he is “actually” innocent. Quite to the contrary, we have repeatedly left that question unresolved, while expressing considerable doubt that any claim based on alleged “actual innocence” is constitutionally cognizable.

QUOTE=Gardenlady;7145365]Thomas is silent, so it's hard to read him sometimes, but he quite often rules with Scalia, which makes me very nervous for Troys case.

I'm hoping that the women are among the justices considering, I think they would be the best chance.[/quote]

I just emailed my professor and told her I would have to get my assignments finished later and if she needed to take credit away then so be it. I can't concentrate. I can't do anything until there is an answer.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but, legally the state of GA is not required to wait for the S CT to rule. THey can legally go ahead with the execution. Given the public outcry I don't think they will but I also put nothing past the seeming lust for some states for executions. It was mentioned that in some instances execuitons have been carried out without waiting for an S CT decision.

Either the SCOTUS is having a hard time with their decision, or Troy Davis is no longer with us and the deed has been done. Hence the security for the aftermath...

I think they have gone ahead. I think they're waiting until it's done to release the details - the time it started, the time it ended.

ETA: I hope it didn't (or doesn't) take multiple tries. :(

Democracy Now reporting that SCOTUS press office claims no developments as of now. No decision so far. Supposedly.
