GA - Troy Davis fails to prove his innocence to Supreme Court

I realize this thread is not the place to post a poll on this subject, but something to consider for later review at a more appropriate place:

Should executions be televised and/or videotaped for public review?

Two wrongs don't make a right. *Two* men don't need to die...

ETA: As my 8 1/2 yr old son just said, "Justice does not always seem to bring peace." (He asked me to post that for y'all). After reading The Devil in Pew Number Seven, I think I'd choose peace.

The presence of the police really disturbs me.
The pastor said before, "Its more provocative rather than showing protection"
I believe this is true. I'm sure alot of the demonstrators already have bad feelings for LE
Now the lady on democracy now is saying if people leave the area they can't come back??? Isn't this a protest? Isn't this what makes us the USA?
I just don't have a good feeling about what may be the after effects of this all if TD is in fact executed...

This waiting "game" is torture, for Troy Davis, his family, and MacPhail's family. It's like a horror movie. I cannot imagine this man being trapped in that death chamber, moments from death, only to be told to wait. Again. Without knowing how long. And then getting ready again.

Torturous. :furious:

What at the SCOTUS's options (other than 'go ahead'): a stay? clemency? pardon? re-trial?

AJC live blog mentioned that folks who organized the AUC and Savannah State students told them all to return to the busses and they did. Much smaller crowd after that.

I assume this came from the state patrol/local cops out there with the riot gear. They think he won't get the stay and they will riot.

My CJ class was dismissed early in large part because people are distracted by this.

If Troy Davis has seriously been strapped to the gurney with the IV in for the last three hours, how is that NOT cruel and unusual punishment?

My phone died during class and I was certain I would get home to learn he was dead. I'm shocked and just confused. This whole thing is disgusting. MSNBC is pointing out the state of Ga doesnt have to wait for a decision. Honestly, i think the only reason they are waiting is because of fear of the public outcry.

I cannot even begin to imagine what the families of Davis and Mcphail are going through. This is not closure. I agree with the comment aboit LWOP giving closure. If he had gotten that the family could have hopefully gotten closure 20 years ago. This is just picking at open wound for two decades.

The guy on CNN just said that it is conceivable that he is still on the gurney with the IV!!!! OMG I hope not...:maddening: :banghead:

So tempted to go to the White House and join the protesters. DH is at the grocery store and I can't leave the kids alone, so I'll have to wait, if I decide to go.

The mother of the victim just said on AC360 that her family told her to wait by the phone and she should hear from them in a half hour about the decision????
She may have misspoken, but...

I'm pretty sure she was first told the decision would be made by 7:30. The AJC was tweeting as they have a photographer in the room with her. Lemme see if I can find it.

I suspect they are telling BOTH families a decision will be very soon.

OMG MSNBC JUST SAID RUETERS SAID DENIED

I think, from what they are saying on TV that they can only do a stay at this point, because the petition is only for a stay while they prepare an appeal. They said that both sides only gave bare bones, just 2 pages each.

Then they would grant a stay if they decide if they are going to take up the case. If they grant the stay so that the appeals can go in, then they will get a longer stay until the court can review the appeals and both sides can respond.

ETA: having worked a lot of these cases, I have never seen anything like this. Normally, when there is this much public support and doubt, at the very least, a governor steps in and grants a pardon--usually a conditional pardon commuting the sentence to life with or without parole
