District attorney Stephen Bradley tells 13WMAZ that Snider had been on probation on domestic violence charges at the time of his death.

He said deputies have visited the home at least 14 times in the last two and a half years. Reece also said Snider had faced several domestic-violence charges due to those calls, but he could not say whether Snider had been convicted.

The fact that he smashed into a fire truck head-on basically confirms this was a murder and a suicide. "Ending up" in the opposite lane just when there "happens to be" a much larger vehicle coming is maybe the most under reported type of suicide because it's so hard to prove beyond a doubt that it wasn't an accident. Still, ending up on the opposite lane is not the most common type of genuine car accident. Here there's no way a serial domestic abuser just happens to be in this kind of crash right after killing his wife and it isn't suicide.

I hope the firefighter recovers completely. It's incredibly cruel to use an innocent driver, (usually it's a truck driver), as an instrument of your suicide, but it does not seem this guy had compassion to spare.
