GBC Trial General Discussion Thread #3

I have been here almost from the start, sometimes with vigour and sometimes as a very occasional interloper. I have wrestled with my position many times. I was referred here by a former friend of GBC's. Like many people on here (I imagine), I have a close connection to this case and I do intend to reveal my own personal connection when this is all said and done. In the meantime, thanks very much to all the sleuthers, all the contributors, pundits, amateurs, professionals, court tweeters and those who just feel very, very deeply for the children left behind by a loving mother.

Someone very interested in this case posed something to me tonight that I had never previously considered and initially found repugnant. But I will leave it with you ...

What if GBC was set up by Allison? She is a very intelligent woman, a devoted wife and mother, betrayed horribly by her husband. Those journal entries - all written in the same pen. What if she intended to take her own life but not without taking down her husband? I know it's outlandish but so is everything about this case. Nothing is out of the realms of possibility.

Nuts, right? Or not.

Adding to my last reply to this - I have a weight loss journal, I keep it in my top drawer on my bedside dresser, I have a pen in there too so that I don't have to go looking for one on weigh in day. So all entries are in the same pen. Therefore I don't find it odd at all that all entries are in the same pen.

Exactly. I see nothing suspicious about the same pen being used.

I'm a writer as well as a therapist - and I always write my manuscripts longhand.

And I always use the exact same type and colour of pen because I like the way they write - I have lots of them so that when one runs out, another is there.

Could easily have been the same with Allison.

That means nothing IMO.

Sorry, but who talks like this (BBM)?

Seriously.....talk about putting on a front. That's not natural speech.....it's like something out of a Bronte novel

“I actually proposed to her underneath the Eiffel tower of Park Road. She was quite taken aback because I think she had been engaged before and probably psychologically she was preparing herself for some months hence.

"(She) was completely taken by surprise so she actually asked for a week to think about it.”

And if he really does speak like this in real life - my god, no wonder she had to think about it. Please!!

Just by reading his stilted words I can tell he's emotionally disconnected!!:banghead:

A person gets depressed. It happens.
Their spouse finds it hard to deal with. It happens.
They run a business and it struggles. It happens.
They must downsize. It happens.
A person in the marriage has affairs. It happens.
A person in the marriage is found under a bridge, dead from unknown cause. Rarely happens.
The other person in the marriage concurrently sustains fingernail gouges down the side of their face. Rarely happens.
The Crown rests its case IMO.

As to how it was done without scene placement and other powerful evidence? Luck and assistance.
May Justice be done.

Perfectly put.

Some guy is on John Laws who is buying into the idea that Allison framed Gerard by committing suicide .. ACK!

continuing from that same source

If it was nerves, they seemed to evaporate the longer Gerard talked.

As his testimony went on, his hands worked overtime. They came down in a karate chop motion to emphasise points and swirled around in circles like a showground ride.

It was Gerard Baden-Clay, former president of the Kenmore and District Chamber of Commerce, vice-president of Brookfield State School, and member of the Montessori kindy board.

It was clean-shaven Gerard in a well-fitting dark suit, white business shirt, spotted yellow tie and glasses.

At times he drifted into long answers, on one occasion seemingly chuckling when he became conscious of his own verbosity.

Then there were the tears, near tears, choked words and red-faced emotion that punctuated his evidence.

He spoke for one hour and 17 minutes before the court adjourned until 10am on Monday, when he will return to the stand. There may be days more to come.

I think this has been asked but I didn't see an answer sorry - was the defence asking questions at all, or did GBC really rabbit on for one hour 17 minutes alone?

Alright I am finally caught up!

I found GBC to be unbelievable on the stand. If I didn't despise him so much I would feel major second-hand embarrassment. What was the point of blathering on and on about their travels in such tedious detail? Whoever said its like being at a travel slide show without the slides was spot on.

I can imagine having an every day conversation with him would result in him finding every opportunity to slip in something about his travels. 'Oh yum GM this sandwich is so good'. 'You think that's good GG? Well when I was living in London - have I ever told you about that? - the Earl of Sandwich made me one! I had such a top notch job while we there, Allison didn't though'.

OK wise ones, I think the defence is going to go with Serotonin Syndrome because of the combination of Sertraline and either Antibiotics and or whatever Allison was injecting to lose weight.

12 year old with Serotonin Syndrome due to Erythromycin

That link suggest diet supplements (question posed to Mrs Dickie if she was aware Allison was injecting to lose weight) but I wouldn't have a clue which ones in the table, are diet supplements. Just putting this out here, our experts can dissect it.

I did chuckle when I read that last sentence in today's Courier Mail - "There may be days more to come". Yawn. What year is he up to in his testimony? I hope he gets to the point soon so we don't have to listen to anymore of this ridiculous self promotion. This is a murder trial. I wonder what the jury are thinking. I guess we will find out soon enough.

First a slip-up, then down to business
IT STARTED with a slip-up. Gerard Robert Baden-Clay, dramatically taking the stand in his own murder trial, was asked a simple question.
How long had he been married to his wife Allison, the woman he is accused of murdering?

“We would have been coming up to our 14th wedding anniversary,’’ he said, before realising he was a year off.

“Sorry, it would have been coming up to our 15th,’’ he corrected, cutting off his defence barrister, Michael Byrne QC.

Mr Byrne was already in the middle of his next question, which happened to be his biggest: “Mr Baden-Clay, did you kill … ?’’

Gerard’s misstep forced Mr Byrne to repeat the question. This time, Gerard answered confidently: “No I did not”.

Thanks for that. I saw the CM headline about a "slip up" but the link was going to a later article so i'd been wondering what it had been.

"Did you kill..." "Sorry"

how Freudian

Just found interesting link - notes made by someone who was in the court today:
http://aussiecriminals.com.au/2014/...l-be-selling-from-now-on-is-about-6-x-8-feet/
You can click on each photo to enlarge for reading.
Starts with the lawyer then GBC

Some really interesting observations too - voices, facial expressions, emotional responses, etc - that you don't get in MSM

She's been writing up articles about the court experience too but she's just posted the notes for today so far, since there's so much to get through.

(I hope this is ok Marly :)
Big thanks for that. I had to laugh at the comments they put in.

Haha, well that was very tongue in cheek wasn't it. Maybe my new favourite reporter.

Yes, sharp reporting. Must be driving them mad to have to withhold from expressing opinion

  • #179
Given there are so many valid and varying views even on this forum, I think the jury are going to do it really tough in deliberations, trying to come to a unanimous decision. Alioop when you have a moment, would you mind explaining what it will mean for GBC if we have a hung jury?

lol - who does this? Has there ever been a case of someone suiciding to frame someone?

Talk about cutting of your nose to spite...
