...it would be interesting to know WHO initiated that particular pick-up game on the night of the murder...
Is it just me or don't you think if LE went to the media and had them announce that they are looking for any adult that played soccer with Raven Abaroa the night of April 26, 2005, they would be able to immediately substantiate or discredit his alibi?????? Geez, it's not rocket science! Alright, I sound frustrated, I know:banghead:

I think the most likely reason is that there wasn't a game- best post I've read in quite a while.. made me laugh. :)

I can tell you this, if my husband, son, brother, friend, or enemy was in a socccer game while they were supposed to be committing a murder, I would tell the world that they were there. Same for if they were absent.
OR if there was no soccer game. Of course, everyone may be assuming that Raven meant a soccer game across town from THEM. You know how that goes.
...but surely LE asked him for the names of at least some of the people he allegedly was playing with that night ,to verify his alibi...

...i think if he was planning on using the game as his alibi, then there WAS a game...he just couldn't be that stupid to think LE wouldn't check it out..

...so.........the murder ( if he's guilty) either took place prior to the game..........or just after he got home.....( he then cleaned up...called 911
)
...i'd like to know when the other players got home that night, since raven arrived home arpund 11 supposedly....even assuming he had a 30 minute drive home, does a soccer game last until 10:30 p.m...?

BUT THEY HAVEN'T. So, why can't we???
I feel a sense of injustice and hurt when I look at Janet's sweet photos. She deserved so much better than she got from the moment she met that scheming Sam Peters!!!

I'm sure Raven had the names and numbers of some of the people he plays with. And I'm sure he would give them to the police if he really used the game as an alibi and was really at a game.

Ok, so help me out here......if his alibi checked out, why haven't they cleared him? and if it didn't check out, why haven't they arrested him? Anybody??????

I was just thinking--time of death would be very important. Even if it was a pick-up game, maybe he started calling friends after he murdered Janet to produce an alibi. Something like "hey, what are you doing right now. Nothing? Good, let's get over to the field now and just kick around. Why don't you call some friends too." Then since people were in such a rush about the whole thing, they didn't even think to look at the clock and all times were approximate. Then things get hazy and Raven gets his alibi.

Exactly... the soccer game may have nothing to do with whether or not they arrest him for her murder. Let's face it, the cops shouldn't arrest someone unless they know they have a case and can satisfy the elements of a murder charge. There is a significant difference in the requisites for a first-degree murder conviction, second-degree murder conviction, and any lesser-included offenses like manslaughter. They have to be able to establish these well enough for a jury to convict and for the case not to be dismissed before a jury even hears it. If the cops want a slam dunk, then they need to keep their mouths shut and collect as much evidence as they can... they don't need any contamination.

As far as the time of death goes, if the police established that time of death was before he left for the game, then that would be a problem. The soccer game becomes more important if the time of death is estimated for the time he was actually there or just after it was completed.

I agree with the above poster who said that Raven wouldn't have mentioned a soccer game if there wasn't one. He's dumb but he's not that dumb. I was never impressed with his intellect but I have a hard time believing that anyone would be that stupid (especially in our age of Law and Order and CSI). HTH.

I forgot about soccer dome in raleigh. They have all kinds of games and adult leagues. Check their schedules for summer and winter the adult games are on sunday/tueday nights or just tuesday nights. Can't find the schedule for spring 05 or if they even run leagues then and if they had a game on April 26. I think I remember asking raven if he ever played at soccer dome, but I can't remember what he said. Might have been there.

I received a pm that said that Raven talked to one of Janets old soccer teammates/friends before he actually called 911. The cops were all over the "friend" after finding that he had called the friend first because he was scared and didn't know what to do...so sad. Does anyone else have any new info? Since I live on the west coast I get updates later than others.

I tell you, if LE did not do the most BASIC thing, as far as verifying his alibi, then heaven help us all...and I live in the area!! YIKES!

I have to tell you though, as much as I understand occasional skepticism regarding LE, crime scene techs, etc., I CANNOT even imagine that even Andy and Barney (hey, I'm from the South, they're heroic here!) wouldn't check and verify an alibi.... And his alibi is not even some generic "I went for a walk alone..." or some such nonsense...he gave a truly verifiable alibi...

So, maybe this is our Frye lady......he called Janet's friend (maybe Raven's girlfriend?) before 911!

But there is a possibility that it's not that verifiable. Do we know if it was a scheduled game, or did he happen to be driving by a school, see a game in progress and ask if he could join up? (Just throwing a twist to show how his alibi could be phoney). Then he could have the excuse "Well, I was just driving by and asked if I could join their game." We don't know how solid his alibi is.

That's true. Why do you think, then, the soccer team (either side) isn't talking? Could they have been silenced by LE as well? (that's implying that LE has asked the family to remain silent. I don't know that for certain...it is just my own speculation). That's an awful lot of people to keep quiet.

Nevermind the team itself not talking, unless it's coincidence, they took down an entire website to prevent us digging around there!

has anyone tried to contact news reporters and ask them if they have any new information regarding the case?

What's the chance that any of them know about WS? I would say ZERO.

I'd say there's a good chance some, if not many, are reading here. I was poking around the www.ncsoccer.org and www.ncasa.org sites for days, but the day after I posted the web addresses here at WS along with the name of Raben's friend Darius who is President of the adult division, they were taken down from all appearances. It may be coincidental, but I tend to think not.

Either no response or no leaks available.

I contacted a senior anchor with WRAL News a couple of weeks ago, which I believe helped in prompting them to do their coverage last week on the 11:00pm news.

I believe the more folks that contact the news people, the better.

Tiffany, I heard this story, but just enough different to wonder if he called more than one of janet's friends that night.
