Imo..I think he is going to go for a plea bargain. The prosecutor will offer him a plea bargain too if they have nothing else on him..and they will do that to save face! And that will be pretty ****** for us all as we will never learn the truth.

I can see a plea bargain, but I just think that OP's lawyers will push him to go for it... acquittal due to shoddy police work, his predisposition to be wary of intruders, etc. :banghead:

BTW, Carol, ever hear Rodriguez, aka Sugarman, in SA?
//snipped for now, will answer rest in another post.

Is that a trick question?? :D
Wen I was 15 and got my first weekend job, with my first paycheck I hightailed it to the music store and purchased 2 vinyls. The Cure and Cold Fact. :)
That was some errrr...lets say many moons ago. Hehe.

HOUSE IN ITALY

Balindile Mthembu

"Oscar Pistolrius seems to be in trouble with the mayor of Gemona in Italy. He lied in Sarie magazine and said the mayor gave him a house.
Mayor of Gemona in Italy is reportedly considering legal action against Oscar. Seems like there's a lot that this lunatic lies about.
And Oscar's forever vocal uncle and spin-doctor Arnold has been rather mute; even the lawyers have been quiet about Oscar's property scandal."

An addition to this piece above is this: MORE LIES

Oscar vs mayor

TJ STRYDOM | 26 February, 2013 00:345

The mayor of the Italian town that allegedly built Paralympian champion and murder accused Oscar Pistorius a house and purpose-built sporting facilities is considering legal action, although it is not clear whether it would be against the sports star.

Speaking exclusively to The Times, Paolo Urbani, mayor of Gemona del Friuli, a town with a population of about 11000 in the northeast of Italy, said the claims were "completely baseless".

A magazine interview with Pistorius creates the opposite impression.

LIE ONE: "I have for the past two years had a house in Gemona, Italy. I stay there for four months a year because it is where I practise," Pistorius was quoted as saying in the Afrikaans magazine Sarie's February edition.

Urbani and his office strongly denied the assertion yesterday, saying it was "not true that the mayor has offered or built him a house". The mayor said as far as he knew, Pistorius did not have a house in that town at all.

Pistorius had said in the interview: "My house is nestled in the mountains, where it is quiet and peaceful."

But Urbani said every time Pistorius visited the town, he booked into a hotel.

LIE TWO: He said claims that a track and gymnasium had been built specifically for Pistorius were also not true.

"When in Gemona, Pistorius trains at the municipal sports centre built a few decades ago," Urbani said.

Van Zyl said the facilities were not built from scratch but that major upgrades were carried out on them for the benefit of both Pistorius and the town.

The twisting of the truth about OP's "home in Italy" is very interesting to me. Little, unnecessary lies like that indicate someone who is anxious to appear more important, wealthy and special that they are. (Reminds me alot of Casey Anthony actually). I think this does start to paint a picture of the deeper psychology of OP. I wonder if growing up he felt anxiety and defensiveness due to his physical differences (would be surprising if he did not!) and I wonder if he started inflating or exaggerating the truth way back then. If he was allowed to get away with these kinds of behaviors by parents who felt sympathy and guilt over his condition then it would lead to OP possibly feeling he had a special immunity from "getting caught".

Not a trick question.
I trust you know that documentary on Sixto just won the "Oscar"?

Reporters have already interviewed citizens in South Africa who believe him. There are OP supporters on this thread! They are out there, I'm telling you. Probably more than we can imagine.

(TMZ.... love it...!)

Yes, indeed. As you say, "we can see it here" ...

But on the unscientific poll 11% believe him. I think, even on this thread, that OP's support is well under 50%. Unless I am misreading the sentiment.

Playing devil's advocate, if the Mayor misappropriated public funds, he has to deny it.
But I would take most people's word over Oscar's.

Haha, there is ONE OP supporter! :p and supporter is the wrong word. There is just not enough evidence to convince me of his guilt.

yeah 89% to 11% or 9:1

OP would get thrown out of the US Congress.

Do you peeps know the saying--some 100-200 years old--about what a US Senator or Congressman can get away with?

Patticake, see Carol71's post on #1051 above. She states people on FB are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Support is out there!

Yep! It's hard for me. I followed his every move through the Olympics, downloaded his book, really admired him. IMO though, if it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck... you know the rest.

Well, looks like Oscar wasn't lying then. And he never said the mayor gave him a house, he had a house available to him, on LOAN for 4 months a year.

But that article says nothing about the house. It only says that the mayor improved the track facilities after consulting with OP about what updates would be best.

I can appreciate that some of the people holding out for his innocence are genuine like Carol, but to me the more his affidavit is analyzed the more it collapses.

I wonder if there are factors that make some want to believe anything he says?
Public figure
Icon/hero worship
Disabled
Little or no known priors

Is there a limit to the "innocent until proven guilty" thing?

Afterall we are not trying him in court, only saying what each of us thinks is most likely from what we know,
/snipped

Absolutely...I think currently his biggest advantage, as bizarre as it sounds is his disability. I've noticed a trend where more SA women seem to be open to the idea that it was an accident than men. It could be that natural motherly instinct, he is vulnerable, at a disadvantage etc etc. everyone loves the underdog. He is the South African tragedy. Everyone will, for years to come, know exactly what they were doing when news broke of the murder. It appears he really was an idol and hero of note to many South Africans. A national treasure as we like to say.

Yes, are they mostly SA citizens?

In the USA, if we've heard of OP, we have no illusions of a "great guy" or a national idol. He's just a fellow with an improbable story that is impossible to believe.

TMZ [yes, love it!] is a US site. I think if the poll were on a SA site, it might be the opposite.

Yep sorry, I was referring to the Sarie article that was mentioned in court, and then the Facebook post about the mayor denying " giving" him a house.
