George H.W. Bush and Wife Barbara Hospitalized as ‘Precaution’ for Separate Health Issues

While George H.W. Bush remains in the intensive care unit of a Houston hospital after experiencing "shortness of breath," the former president's wife, Barbara, has also been admitted for a separate health issue, the couple's spokesman said Wednesday.

Houston — Former President George H.W. Bush was admitted to an intensive care unit on Wednesday, and his wife, Barbara, was hospitalized as a precaution, according to his spokesman.

The 92-year-old former president was admitted to the ICU at Houston Methodist Hospital to “address an acute respiratory problem stemming from pneumonia,” family spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement. McGrath said the former first lady was hospitalized as a precaution after experiencing fatigue and coughing.

“Doctors performed a procedure to protect and clear his airway that required sedation. President Bush is stable and resting comfortable in the ICU, where he will remain for observation,” McGrath said in the statement...

George H.W. Bush to Be Moved From ICU, Barbara Bush Discharged From Hospital

Former President George H.W. Bush will be moved out of the intensive care unit at a Houston hospital on Monday, officials said.

Meanwhile, former first lady Barbara Bush, who was hospitalized for bronchitis around the same time as her husband but for separate issues was discharged, the hospital officials said.

George H.W. Bush, 92, underwent a procedure to treat an acute respiratory problem steaming from pneumonia after he was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital on Jan. 14. for shortness of breath. The former president will remains under observation at the hospital.

Barbara Bush, 92, was discharged from the hospital on Monday after being admitted for bronchitis on Jan. 17...

Houston — Former President George H.W. Bush was released Monday from Houston Methodist Hospital where he received treatment for pneumonia for more than two weeks.

Bush, 92, was experiencing breathing difficulties when he was admitted Jan. 14. During his treatment, which included a stay in intensive care, doctors inserted a breathing tube and connected him to a ventilator.

“He is thankful for the many prayers and kind messages he received during his stay, as well as the world-class care that both his doctors and nurses provided,” Bush spokesman Jim McGrath said Monday...

WASHINGTON (CNN) - A spokesman for former President George H.W. Bush said the 92-year-old politician was re-admitted to a Houston hospital Friday over what turned out to be pneumonia.

His spokesman, Jim McGrath, confirmed the return to the hospital in a statement on Tuesday, adding that Bush was taken to the hospital due to a cough that prevented him from sleeping. The cough turned out to be due to pneumonia, which has been treated and resolved, McGrath said...
