George Zimmerman /Trayvon Martin General Discussion #6

I have had other RNs as well as patients comment on my cross and ask if I was catholic.

This is becoming off-topic, so I don't want to continue this conversation too much longer, but as a devout Christian if I were in a crisis and noticed the police/emt/nurse/whoever wearing a religious symbol I might try to connect in that way. If I saw someone wearing a cross or a "fishers of men" bracelet or some other exclusively Christian artifact, I might reach out to them and even ask for a prayer.

It will probably come out in court whether GZ is a devout Catholic, I don't know. But it's common for Christians to embrace one another in tragedy and although some people feel that religious beliefs are strictly personal and shouldn't be discussed, I wouldn't assume that of a person who is publicly wearing a symbol of my religion.

It's common in your opinion.

I just wonder why the prosecution had her recount the story is all. There seems to be a reason. Maybe to show the officer became biased towards George when she realized he was a Catholic/Christian. IDK.

Not in the area where GZ says TM would have come out of. You can see the size of the bushes on the reenactment video. They were too small for a 5'11 young man to hide behind, imo.

At night it would be quite easy to hide in the shadows behind bushes. I recall one time, in bright daylight, a teenage kid trying to hide in bushes that did not fully conceal him across the street from me. I could see him, but someone coming around the corner probably could not. I found it such odd behavior that I went back inside the building to wait for my ride. I do not consider my actions to be "profiling." I consider it prudent. JMO, OMO, MOO.

Two subjects I avoid, especially with someone not familiar to me, is religion and politics. I certainly wouldn't ask a complete stranger about their religious beliefs on the basis of a piece of jewellry they're wearing. JMHO though.

I wouldn't either, especially after I just shot someone. I would think you wouldn't be making small talk under these circumstance. But heck, that's just how I think I would behave after killing someone. Thank goodness I will never be in GZ's position. I would have reported it and let LE do their job!

Yes, in my opinion it's common.

I guess I'm not sure where this conversation is going - I'm not sure why it matters whether that's "common".

It happened - he saw the crucifix and asked her if she is catholic, she said no but she's Christian, and he went on to seek her opinion on whether it's always a sin to kill someone.

I guess it doesn't matter whether that's "common" although in my world it's quite common - at any rate, she was just recounting a conversation that happened.

can we clarify the "just walking" bit? I thought he was cutting through yards and going from under over hangs etc...that isn't just like you are out strolling the street. That is suspicious behavior.

Listening to this witness I am struck with the same thoughts, The evidence in the case backs up GZ. There is a lot of suppositions that are made to get it to where the opposite is true.. If you believe that TM was the one who was attacked, you have to just make it up in your head.

There is evidence that GZ was beaten. I just don't see how to get around that. JMHO

Why did GZ report that Trayvon walked through the houses to this officer? No mention of running.

IMO - someone who changes their story is not telling the truth.

Asking whether it's a sin to kill someone isn't really "small talk" in my opinion. It seems like a huge question to me - as big a question as "will you be able to stop the bleeding" or "was he conscious".

This sounds like a conversation straight from the heart, IMHO, on both their parts.

I can't say one way or another how the fight started and who started it. There's no definitive evidence. There is only evidence that at some point Trayvon got the upper hand. That is not evidence that Trayvon attacked first. And I believe, regardless, that George should at least be held accountable for his actions that night that led to the encounter.

So MOM goes to get photos and the leo adds to her testimony there are bushes around units with a/c units also. lol imo

The case can certainly be made that someone who doesn't change their story at ALL is actually lying.

If you go through a tragic event, and describe it exactly the same, with the same words each time, I've seen police state in other cases where that's likely to be a lie. They question over and over and over to try to get a little bit different description, a little different word choice.

Because that's how memory works. It's a visual recalling, not a verbal script.

Nothing he did was against the law. Right? He is not charged with anything but Murder and the less included of MS right?

Dr. Samuels?

Little things might be small, but the difference between walking and running is a pretty big one. IMO.

There is a picture being shown in court of a bush in front of an air conditioner. There is NO way Trayvon was hiding behind those bushes, they are way too small. JMO

Plus, there was an air conditioner was behind the bush. Didn't happen..IMO

  • #497
There are no lights near the bushes. As per witness (LE) testimony.

The officer just said Trayvon was too tall to be behind those bushes. In her opinion.

I believe the case could be made for manslaughter. A jury is allowed to consider manslaughter if they don't consider it murder. He didn't break the law, per se, but his actions led to an encounter that ended a life. He should absolutely be held accountable in some way.

the officer said that no one tells the exact story the same all the time even when telling the truth..

I just don't get this. I have not seen one PROS. Witness that ended up being good for the PROS. I think they all look better for the def.

IMO
