George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin General discussion

Didn't the NW tell him not to carry a gun? He now claims he was on his way to Target but at the time of the crime he was very vocal about being a NW member and that gave him the right to follow TM?

If GZ took such a beating why did he refuse medical treatment? Rather than be seen by someone with no interest in the events, instead he waited and went to see his family DR.

What does it matter what the NW watch said? He has a handgun permit. He can carry it anywhere it is allowed.

That's assuming Trayvon started the "fight". We have a defendant trying to stay out of jail for shooting an unarmed teenager. He may have been suspicious of Trayvon, but he was wrong. We do not have proof Trayvon was "wailing" on GZ either. Only GZ's word. The word of a defendant.

JMO

Aren't there eye witnesses of the altercation? Does not support your opinion.

And there lies the problem, he ASSUMED that Trayvon was one of those *******s that always got away, he was simply walking home. He already had it in his mind that Trayvon was an *******, suspicious and up to no good. making assumptions about someone based on how they look affects how you respond. The saddest part about this is that YOU too can be considered suspicious. Does someone have the right to follow you? call you an *******? assume that you're up to no good. You could be Trayvon martin right now to some overzealous George out there.

Well stated, tinkabella. The judge ruled that the prosecution could use the word 'profiling & profile' in court. Profiling is just exactly what GZ did, IMO. As a result, a young person is dead. Trayvon will never be coming back or ever go home again. He is gone because GZ got out of his truck when he had no need to and followed Trayvon, IMO.

This whole thing is just beyond tragic.

He did call police. He had his legal fire arm on him with a permit that he may have carried all the time. He did not go looking for the guy. He happened upon him. He did not leave his home to pursue him. TM is dead and that is a tragedy but that does not make the other person a murderer.

I respect your objective opinions!

The 911 call states that dispatch not only requested that he stop following but that he meet the dispatched officers at the mailboxes... George immediately requests to be reached by his phone, IMO he wasn't done sleuthing...

This is a tragedy. I think there are communication break downs all over the place in this case. For one if you are carrying and you are confronted you need to address who you are and try to make a clear decision on who is confronting you.

We have the make my day law. This allows homeowners to use deadly force against illegal intruders and it should protect them from criminal charges if the intruder enters the domicile. However it does not protect gun owners defending their property outside of the home, nor does it protect from civil lawsuits that result from death or injury. All gun owners should be well versed in their laws.

I think we know that a DT can adjust the story to play on emotions... I'm only interested in proving the facts and understanding the law, and knowing if GZ understood those laws.

The can of iced tea added extra weight to Trayon? What I'm watching is a bad joke, right?

I do agree about the juice can....what? An extra 23 ounces, I LOL'ed at that. I think TM knew how to pin RZ, he didn't need any extra weight. MOO

I do not believe that this defense attorney is doing his client any favors by having the judge constantly state what is proper for opening and closing statements....

  • #507
Yes, a person does have a right to do all of those things to me, and if I attack them physically, they have a right to defend themselves.

Using equal force, not deadly force.

Just checking in and hope someone can answer a couple small things for me {{{{waves hello to my fellow JA trial watchers!}}}}

GZ looks like he can hardly stay awake. I wonder how the jury is doing? Do we have any court watchers? I haven't noticed such a thread.

Have there been a lot of objections during the defense opening? Seem to be a lot now, and judge instructing Defense about diff between opening and closing statements.

Is there any time limit for opening? Seems like this has been going on a long time.

TIA

No he profiled him as a punk. Is that better?

Either way, he certainly fit the profile of people who had been doing burglaries in the area. Just common sense.

Im trying. I want to know the real story. Not one colored by race, or prejudice or assumption of guilt, but real evidence.

On a side note, This lawyer is making a mess. He does not seem to know the rules of law. I always wanted to be an attorney but did not think I could do it.. Now, however..... ;)

Def Atty claims TM "armed himself with a concrete sidewalk."

  • #513
TM has issues as well, the evidence found on his phone, it just won't be coming before the jury.

It will eventually come in but both the defense and the prosecution could not use it in the opening statements.

because like most children he believed he could handle it. Kids do that. It doesn't warrant a death sentence.

In my opinion he was not a kid. And most teens I know would show respect to an adult given the circumstances. Explained that his father lived there and he was returning from the store. Was there any verbal exchange? What I have read says that GZ had turned to go back to his truck and TM jumped him from the rear. Is that incorrect info. ty

And Trayvon was "armed" with a concrete slab.

Attys often break or bend the rules of law to determine how far they can go with the judge.

And isn't that what makes this 2nd degree murder?

Taking the law into your own hands - no matter what you think MIGHT be happening - is in fact, against the law, isn't it?

State does not have enough for a 2nd degree murder charge.

It's very obvious by looking at all the evidence that this is a self defense case.

I think you are seeing stress on his face. When I am stressed I tend to look sleepy but I am freaking out on the inside... I just shut down..

Defense stating the only injury to Martin apart from gunshot wound was a cut on one of his left knuckles ... Presumably from punching GZ in the face.

Really? What does it matter? It's clear evidence that GM believes the rules don't apply to him.
NW are just that Neighbors who Watch- and in case of trouble contact LE they are not a posse tasked with providing their own justice.
