Hi y’all. I’m contributing this crappy useless link to show that my local government has no data reporting of any value. How hard would it be to pop a banner in there with daily updates? Moo
City of Savannah Covid-19 Information | Savannah, GA - Official Website

I’m sensing people are taking things more seriously around here. About 25% of people were wearing facemasks at Sam’s Club today. But when a fire broke out in my neighborhood this afternoon, neighbors came rushing out & gathered right up to chat while waiting for the fire dept. Sheesh! I had to keep walking backwards to maintain my 10’ SD.

Before leaving the house today, I donned my facemask, rubber gloves & swim goggles just to see if my family would notice I was leaving. They did. :D Didn’t go thru with wearing the swim goggles to the store, but in retrospect, it may come to that.

Swim goggles! That is a good idea and I have some I was thinking of getting rid of. I’ll go to the store with mine on if you go with yours on!

We still don’t have stocked stores in SE Georgia. Better, but not great. Meanwhile, we now have a mandatory 8pm curfew. Most everyone is still working. Virtual school week 3 started yesterday.

Georgia surpasses 4K coronavirus cases, reaches 125 deaths

A day after Georgia surpassed 3,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus, the state hit 4,000 Tuesday evening. In total, 125 patients have died as a result of the virus.

Since 12:57 p.m., the DPH announced 188 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 4,117. Of those cases, 885 patients are hospitalized, which is about 21.5% of all cases.

Fourteen more deaths were reported since this afternoon, bringing Georgia’s death toll to 125. Dougherty County has suffered the most deaths with 26, followed by Fulton with 18 and Cobb with 13.

About 16,200 tests have been conducted across the state, and about 25.4% have returned positive results.

At least 62% of those who died had preexisting conditions, and only 22 were under the age of 60. The youngest victim in Georgia was 29, while the oldest was 95.

Dougherty County (Albany) especially hard hit.

The death toll now includes a 49-year-old inmate from nearby Lee State Prison who tested positive for COVID-19 and died Thursday while hospitalized in Albany, the Georgia Department of Corrections said. Five other inmates and four staff members at the same prison also were infected; three were hospitalized while the others recover in isolation, the agency said.

The funerals in Albany — of Mr. Mitchell, and then of a man named Johnny Carter, held at the funeral home a week later — quickly emerged as a source of infection.
Of the first 23 patients to test positive at Phoebe Putney, all had attended at least one of the two funerals, Mr. Steiner said. That was easy to figure out.
“This wasn’t like a team of scientists in a bunch of suits,” said Chris J. Cohilas, chairman of the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners. “We’re a big small town where everybody knows everybody. We know who is in our hospital, and we know who went to what funeral.”
Word went out “so quickly and so aggressively” that those who attended either of the funerals should get tested, Mr. Cohilas said. But not quickly enough to prevent an infected person from serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial that ended on March 12. That set off a new set of infections in the sheriff’s office and the courthouse, he said.

Fulton County issues shelter in place order; violators could get $1,000 fine or up to year in jail

ATLANTA — Fulton County on Wednesday ordered residents to stay at home.

The county said the move was ordered during the Board of Commissioners Meeting by Fulton County Interim District Health Director Dr. S. Elizabeth Ford.

"The order commands all county residents to stay at their place of residence; only allowing them to leave to provide, receive, or engage in essential services or activities," a release said. "The order also permits those who work for essential businesses and perform essential governmental functions to leave their place of residence. The order will go into effect immediately."

I saw a local ad on the news last night that offered free “disinfecting treatment” with standard carpet cleaning service. I thought- how can carpet cleaning be an essential service at this time? And who would want staff & equipment that’s been in someone else’s home- at this point in history?! Sheesh. Some crazy logic float’n around right now!

BREAKING: Georgia governor to order shelter in place to curb coronavir
Gov. Brian Kemp on Wednesday said he is preparing a statewide shelter-in-place order across Georgia to try to curb the spread of the coronavirus, a turnabout after weeks of balking at taking more drastic steps to combat the pandemic.

The new rules, which he will issue Thursday, are set to run from Friday through April 13. He also said he would immediately sign an order that would close k-12 schools through the rest of the academic year.

Shelter in place for 12 days... But close school for the rest of the year. Seems a little inconsistent.

Fulton County has had shelter in place for awhile. Florida will have it go into effect on Friday at 12:01 pm. I have co workers stating we will be allowed to stay open. They are not grasping retail clothing, shoes, and decor are not essential. The office buildings must close under the law. The few of us who work at home cannot handle the volume. Our IT and Six Sigma TACC is in Florida- whose order is until 4/30- and ours right now is until 4/13.

Gov. Kemp's comments on asymptomatic spread of coronavirus stir scrutiny
In full, the governor said:

"I'm following the advice of (Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner) Dr. Toomey, and her and I both mentioned in our remarks, finding out that this virus is now transmitting before people see signs so - what we've been telling people from directives from the CDC for weeks now, that if you start feeling bad stay home, those individuals could have been infecting people before they ever felt bad," he said. "Well we didn't know that until the last 24 hours, and as Dr. Toomey told me, she goes, 'This is a game-changer for us.'"

So unimpressed. This is not new information. I recall epidemiologists stating people are contagious before becoming symptomatic in FEBRUARY. Here’s an article from 3 weeks ago!

I get that he’s balancing health & economic concerns & pressures, but let’s not pretend this is NEW info. Mo

This would fall under the category of home repairs.

I finally heard today (I do not live in Georgia) that the index case in Albany appeared to be the officiant at a funeral in February, and of course that person had to get it from somewhere.

I personally believe I may have had it last fall; I had a "cold" with a slight stuffy nose and lack of energy, nothing that stopped me but it did slow me down a bit, and then it went away for a couple days and came back. Other people have recently told me similar stories, and if a milder form struck earlier, it may explain, at least in part, why it isn't rampant in my area. There have been fewer than a dozen diagnosed cases in my city of 400,000, and two deaths: a person in their 90s who remains unidentified, and a 57-year-old woman whose children did a TV interview. Their mother probably weighed at least 400 pounds.
