German police have rescued a man after he called for help saying a baby squirrel would not leave him alone.

Emergency services received a call on Thursday from the man, who claimed he was being chased down the street by the tiny animal.

Police in Karlsruhe said the unnamed man called them in desperation after he was unable to shake off the small rodent.

Officers sent a patrol car out to investigate and arrived to find the chase still in full flow. But the drama ended suddenly when the squirrel, apparently exhausted by its exertions, lay down abruptly and fell asleep.

I would have loved to have observed this.

Reminds me of the Dr Seuss book ‘Are You My Mother?’ Maybe the man was tall or wearing a green shirt and brown pants. Whatever the case, greg, I wouldn’t have minded being in that guy’s shoes either. Very sweet story :)

Baby possums will get off their mothers's backs and bite your toes if you are feeding them to beg.

LOL, that's awesome. I would have taken it home for a pet. I love squirrels.

Possums can be very scary and are horrible arrogant little pests! They used to eat mr flourish's garden so bad! And they just hiss and carry on... They are drama queens.

Our possums are a bit different than yours. They are bigger than cats and are cute, except if they get in the ceiling rafters and play wrestling in the middle of the night.

I never knew this. Thanks. Yours are definitely cute!

“Although they look familiar, in many wildlife books you will find that they are not. The American possums (true opossums) look scary due to their pointed teeth, but the Australian possums are very cute animals and not scary at all. Saying that there is no difference between opossums and possums is just like calling a crocodile an alligator.”

They take food (cut up fruit) out of your hand with their hands and nibble on it delicately. I used to feed a mother with a baby almost as big as her on her back, but then she invited all her relatives and friends and I was inundated.

Squirrels around here can get aggressive too. I leaned over to take the picture and he stood up and tried to take my phone.

We do not have rabies in any animals in Australia which makes it relatively safe to feed them.

I don’t know why I assumed that squirrels might carry rabies here since it’s actually quite rare. I’ve fed them in state and national parks (or they’ll come on the picnic table and help themselves!).

According to our Centers for Disease Control (CDC):

Small mammals such as squirrels, rats, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, chipmunks, rabbits, and hares are almost never found to be infected with rabies and have not been known to cause rabies among humans in the United States. Bites by these animals are usually not considered a risk of rabies unless the animal was sick or behaving in any unusual manner and rabies is widespread in your area.

They must have the same app as the cats in my neighborhood... We feed one and they go text their friends, "there's a crazy cat couple over there! Just swirl around their legs and they'll be jelly!"

I think that that has something to do with body temperature and these small animals have a lower temperature than larger mammals.

The cats here have that too, but it is usually for dumped pregnant cats. I have only had three cats out of about the 15 that I have owned in my life that was not a formerly domesticated, but abandoned cat.
One had a kitten collar on, that his skin had grown over and the vet had to surgically remove it. From then on he had a scar collar.
