several injured after a vehicle crashes into a crowd in Munich. the crowd is reported to be a demonstration/union strike, and a young man (the driver) was detained.

the Bild reports at least fifteen wounded

“This comes hours before world leaders including Ukraine's President Zelensky and US Vice President JD Vance will arrive in the city for the Munich security conference, which will take place on Friday.”

• it is said that a child was reanimated on the scene. the mayor of munich says there are more children among the victims
• police says it did not appear to be an accident
• an eye witness says there were two men inside the car that drove into the crowd. one of them was shot by the police and carried away

The premier of Bavaria - the region where Munich is located - has now said it was a "suspected attack".

He added 27 people have been injured, with some seriously and some critically hurt.

The region's interior minister added the suspect was known to police in relation to drug and theft incidents.

It is not thought the incident is connected with the Munich Security Conference, which kicks off this weekend.

according to der Spiegel the suspect is a 24-year old rejected asylum seeker from Kabul, Afghanistan who came to Germany as a teen.

this is happening at a time with tense debates about immigration. in 10 days the german elections are happening and a far right anti-immigration party has been growing in popularity, but there have been protests with 100.000s of people against this party too.

''BERLIN (AP) — A driver drove a car into a union demonstration in central Munich on Thursday, injuring at least 28 people including children, authorities said. Officials said it was believed to be an attack.

The suspect, an Afghan asylum-seeker, was arrested. The incident follows a series of attacks involving immigrants in recent months that have pushed migration to the forefront of the campaign for Germany’s Feb. 23 election.

Participants in a demonstration by the service workers’ union ver.di were walking along a street at about 10:30 a.m. when the car overtook a police vehicle following the gathering, accelerated and plowed into the back of the group, police said.''

''The shocking smash comes just before the Munich Security Conference starts on Friday, with US Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arriving later today.''

''The suspect was a 24-year-old Afghan asylum-seeker, Huber said. Bavaria’s state interior minister, Joachim Herrmann, said he was known to authorities in connection with theft and drug offenses, but didn’t give further details. The state’s justice minister, Georg Eisenreich, said a prosecutors’ department that investigates extremism and terror was looking into the case.''

''News website Spiegel say the suspect is a Kabul-born man named Farhad N.
He is said to have posted Islamist content on social media before the heinous incident.
Farhad N arrived in Germany as an asylum seeker in December 2016 and had his asylum application rejected''.

Police say the driver of a car which crashed into people in the German city of Munich is a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker. At least 28 people have been injured, at least two seriously, police say - they earlier said "several" people were critically hurt. Officers are treating the incident as a "suspected attack", and local officials say the suspect was known to police for theft and drug offences.

''The car, a Mini Cooper, accelerated and ploughed into the back of a rally by the Verdi trade union at about 10.30am during a strike by public sector workers. Employees of daycare centres, hospitals, sanitation facilities and public swimming pools had joined the work stoppage calling for higher pay and longer holidays. More than 1,000 people were reportedly at the scene.

Media images showed the damaged Mini Cooper, and several bodies lying on the ground, which was strewn with shoes and stained with blood.

“As reported, the secured person is the driver of the car,” police said on X. “Speculation is swirling about further people being involved. We cannot confirm that at this time.”

Was he living illegally in Germany?
My heart goes out to the victims.

''Suspect had his asylum application rejected, but could not be deported, state minister says

Bavaria’s interior minister Joachim Hermann told local media that the suspect was a asylum seeker whose application was rejected, but could not be deported to Afghanistan and was allowed to stay.

In comments reported by Munich-based newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, he said that the suspect was previously known to police in relation to drug and shoplifting offences.''

"Afghan criminal who drove car into crowd in Munich
should have been deported after asylum application was rejected.

Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann
said his asylum application had been rejected in 2016
when he arrived in Germany.

However,
the Afghan is said to have received a so-called toleration permit from the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF),
which meant that his deportation was suspended."

From the link :
"Allowed to stay..."
Even though he should really have been deported after the first offences.

A country welcomes you and this is how you treat their citizens ?

"The Munich-based Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported that one woman had died but authorities did not immediately comment...."

Hoping the news is not accurate.
I was thankful if no one died !

This is not to say those who may be maimed are not the lucky ones.
One shattered leg, kneecap, or back can change your life forever.
Praying the injuries were not that serious.

Make the perp leave, somehow. Work it out if possible !!
They need to take action or else this could happen again by someone else.
It's already occurred last year at the Christmas open air market.
Or at least make a stricter vetting process.
Maybe after his initial crimes he should have been booted out.
Smdh.
Imo.

What a mess…unbelievable!

“Bild has reported that that the suspect's name is Farhad N., born in Kabul in 2001.

According to Swiss publication Blick, he was already known to local police for drugs and theft, and drove at around 30mph into the crowd. “

Munich horror suspected attack, as Afghan, 24, arrested

Dutch media about Farhad Noori and his social media:
GeenStijl: Dader aanslag München is Afghaanse bodybuilder Farhad Noori, personeel sportschool confronteerde hem met 'islamisering'

You can see a screenshot of a picture taken 43 weeks ago, with him and the car he used.
Most of his profiles on SM are taken down, now.

Hopefully all wounded will recover from this attack..

I think it's absurd that any country would allow a non-citizen to stay after drug-related charges. Think of what you'd have to be up to find or sell drugs in a new country. You're not trying to find your way. I don't believe people like this are owed residency, even if their country is at war.

Not everyone can integrate well quickly, but if they show they don't mind doing harm in their new country, believe them the first time.

it’s now been rectified
• the suspect had a permit to live and work in germany, he was not a rejected asylum seeker
• the suspect had not been in trouble with police before

he worked as a security guard for a store, seemed to be mostly into bodybuilding until not so long ago.

who's the person that police shot? (the passenger)
maybe the media is mixing up details of the two
it’s odd, there was an eyewitness who said they saw two men in the car, but i haven’t read any other reports about a second person! i wonder if there really were two
people in the car or if in the chaos some things got mixed up
