Found Deceased Germany - Fabian, 8, Güstrow, 10 Oct 2025

Just that it sounds like his father's ex-girlfriend lives in the same village. Keeping in mind the presumption of innocence applies to everyone currently, and I do not have any theory who did this to him. It might have even been a stranger.
Do we know that it's the same ex-girlfriend? Could have been a previous one. My sense from the language used in the original non-translated is that it's a while ago that Fabian was seen playing in the village. I could be way off of course.

Yes, of course presumption of innocence!

The one thing speaking against a stranger is that the local police have stated that there is no danger to the public. The parents of other children were terrified some person was going to strike again and they weren't letting their children out etc. But I also seem to remember that's happened before elsewhere - LE says no danger to the public, but then it turns out the perp was a stranger so idk

I thought this visualization was interesting, you can see how far it would have been to where his body was located (Uphal). They are speculating he took a bus to Zehna or someone took him there as it would have been too far to walk

Looked for an update and, obviously we hope this is true, they don't believe the motive was a SO. I think with time there will be an arrest, especially because he was found relatively quickly (but I don't have a theory yet...)

"The investigation is still ongoing," explained Harald [N], press spokesman for the Rostock public prosecutor's office, in response to an inquiry from RTL. "A sexual offense can be ruled out."

This is in line with the police saying that there is no danger to the public. Which to me indicates it was an accident that someone covered up or someone close to Fabian who they are now surveiling

Mordfall Fabian: Ermittler geben neue Details bekannt – und erklären Strategie

Update from 5 November, 10:26 a.m.: New details have emerged about the death of Fabian from Güstrow. According to the Rostock public prosecutor's office and police, the eight-year-old was murdered on the day he disappeared and ‘left at the location where he was later found’. His body was then set on fire. Investigators suspect that this was done to cover up the evidence. The time frame for the crime is believed to be between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on 10 October.

The authorities are now calling for any witnesses who were in the vicinity of the location where the body was found at that time to contact the police. The call for witnesses will also be broadcast on Wednesday (5 November) on the ZDF programme ‘Aktenzeichen XY...ungelöst’ at 8:15 p.m.

I hope there's some CCTV from the area somehow and that they already have some good leads.

Does this seem a bit late for LE to be calling for witnesses from October 10th? I assume they have already been making formal requests there locally.

Aktenzeichen XY... Ungelöst vom 05.11.2025

The broadcast of Aktenzeichen Ungelost is now online. The first few minutes are dedicated to the murder of Fabian.

Fabian left his home around 10.50 hrs am. The Police calls for witnesses who have seen Fabian leave his home, alone or in company of someone else, or if he was picked up by a car.

LE now knows that Fabian was murdered and his remains were left on the spot where they were found between 10.50 hrs and 15.00 hrs on October 10.

LE also calls for witnesses who may have seen a person or car of interest near the place where the remains were found. Someone sent them a picture of a fire on the spot where Fabian's remains were found. Has anyone else seen the fire?

Translation of Aktenzeichen XY

HOST: "I would like to take this opportunity to speak with the investigator in charge of the murder case of 8-year-old Fabian Lange from Güstrow: Chief Inspector Frank Focke. You just hung up the phone. What's happening at the station?”

Frank Focke [Rostock Police]: “We've already received several calls at the station. We're still hoping for more clues, perhaps even THE clue that will take us further in the investigation. But for now, we're just grateful that we can be here today, that we're getting all these clues in the first place.”

HOST: "Can you say something about the motive in general? A sexual motive has obviously been ruled out."

Frank Focke [Rostock Police]:: "Yes, well, there has been some public speculation about whether there was a sexual motive. Basically, we can't say anything about motives at the moment because we don't have any suspects we can link to a motive."

HOST: "That would have been my next question: Is there any suspicion against a particular group of people, for example?"

Frank Focke [Rostock Police]:: "Well, we are continuing to investigate in all directions. We are exhausting all available resources. We have the full support of the public prosecutor's office. We're really working almost around the clock, you could say. An expanded homicide unit has been established specifically to handle this case."

HOST: "Does the perpetrator necessarily have to be male?"

Frank Focke [Rostock Police]:: "No, well, we are really investigating in all directions and different people."

HOST: "Can you tell us more about the crime?"

Frank Focke [Rostock Police]:: "Yes, we can say that we assume that the crime was committed in the period from 11 am on 10th of October until 3 pm. That Fabian was probably taken to Güstrow in a car by an adult during this time, because the location is further away from the place of residence, so we assume transport by car ."

HOST: "How are you going to proceed now, what are you doing in the next few days?"

Frank Focke [Rostock Police]:: "In the next few days it will be the case that this extended homicide squad will continue to exist, that we... uh, have various measures that we hope that --"

HOST: "What measures are these exactly?"

Frank Focke [Rostock Police]:: "Well, in this case, all the measures that the StPO provides us with, which can be applied to the accused... unfortunately, for reasons of investigation, I cannot say more than that we have measures. We cannot say at this time which person is being targeted."

HOST: "I very much hope that you can solve this horrible crime, good that you are here"

Frank Focke [Rostock Police]:: "Yes, I hope..."

HOST: "We'll see at the end of the show how many calls came in about Fabian, what else will be added."

Frank Focke [Rostock Police]:: "Yes. Yeah. Well, we have... uh, 5 people that we can... isolate at the site nearby... and hope for more information from walkers, forest workers, other people in the area."

HOST: "Thank you for this information at this time."

Frank Focke [Rostock Police]:: "Yes, thank you too."

And this is the shot of some type of camera (not sure if it was a bird camera or manually taken) from the TV show, showing the burning bushes

So this crime happened in broad daylight, Fabian's remains were left in the open in an area where people walk their dogs next to a village and the perpetrator started a fire in plain sight. A fire that might attract people from afar, that might be extinguished before traces could be erased ~ the suspected aim of the perp.

Make it make sense. Woods and bodies of water abound in the region and this is what they opted to do?

No, not a bit late. First call for witnesses iirc between set hours of day. Also the TV program is a national one, not used afaik immediately after a crime or a person gone missing. "Ungelöst" means "unsolved".

A panicked response, maybe. It wasn't well planned.

We do not know if the murder happened in public, it may well be that the perpetrator brought Fabian (alive) somewhere else and then decided to bring his body to this place. I feel stronger and stronger that this was some sort of accident or outburst of anger because the "hiding place" is very poorly chosen and burning a body near wet mulch is also not very logical so seems like a panic reaction to try to get rid of evidence fast

I would love to know how the police now know what time Fabian left the house. Perhaps activity on his phone which he left behind. JMO, his mum could have called or texted him from work to check in. Or maybe just all activity on it ends at 10:50.

I don't think anyone would have seen Fabian out on the street, since it being before the end of school hours, it would stand out seeing a child alone. Of course, if he was with an adult, it might look like they were just taking him to the doctor or similar, but you'd still remember.

And then, why does the time window close at 3pm? Is that the time of the photo showing burning?

An orange SUV just got taken by the police after focusing on the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern area. The were also seen taking some bags out of a house. Who the house belongs to has not made public yet but there are whispers all over the internet

From Gustrow where Fabian went missing, via Klein Uphal where Fabian's remains were found, to Reimershagen where the orange car was seized is 30 kms.

Mord an Fabian: Polizei beschlagnahmt Pick-up der Ex von Vater

Reimershagen – The copper-coloured pick-up truck stands on a tow truck. It is now being taken for forensic examination – will this car finally solve the murder of little Fabian (aged 8)?

The car on the tow truck belongs to the ex-girlfriend of Fabian's father. Since early Thursday morning, the police have been searching her house in Reimershagen (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) in her presence, as well as two others, one of which is in the neighbourhood. Reporters on site report that investigators also took sports shoes in plastic bags as evidence.

Fall Fabian: Ermittler geben Festnahme bekannt

Almost four weeks after the violent death of eight-year-old Fabian from Güstrow, the police have arrested a woman on suspicion of murder. According to information obtained by SPIEGEL, the woman in question is the one who found his body.

So they've arrested dad's ex-girlfriend??! The person who 'found' Fabian's body.
And she DOES live in Reimershagen, the village where they searched that cow farm a couple of weeks ago.

I recall a friend of Fabian's mother saying that Fabian's mother found it more than a coincidence that the ex-gf found the body in a place where she wouldn't be expected to be walking around (i.e. Klein Upahl).

What could possibly be the motive? Revenge against Fabian's father?

That’s what I’m thinking. Fabian knew her. Most likely he didn’t think twice about going with her.
