Missing Inga: Police search forest area again
February 5, 2025, 5:14 p.m.

Almost ten years after the disappearance of five-year-old Inga near Stendal, the police are still trying to solve the case. On Wednesday, the search continued for six hours, with around 50 emergency personnel working in a forest area. The hope is to find clothing or other clues under the leaves and moss, the police said.

Almost ten years after little Inga disappeared without a trace in a forest near Stendal, the police are still looking for clues . Riot police and an investigation team from the Halle police station searched parts of a forest on Wednesday. According to investigators, the area in question was the last place where the then five-year-old was seen.

A similar search had already taken place on site in March 2024. Nothing was found at that time.

Fall Inga: Polizei sucht wieder im Wald bei Stendal nach Hinweisen

Stendal - Around 50 officers from the state police and criminologists from the cold case unit in Halle have been searching for clues in the undergrowth between the village of Uchtspringe and the Wilhelmshof deaconry since early Wednesday morning. Inga Gehricke, a girl of 5 years of age at the time, disappeared without a trace from there on 2 May 10 years ago.

Polizei sucht wieder nach vermisster Inga Gehricke: "Wir wollen nichts unversucht lassen" | MDR.DE

The renewed police operation in the case of the missing Inga from Schönebeck has not yielded any finds ‘that will help the investigators,’ Antje Hoppen, spokeswoman for the Halle police station, told MDR SACHSEN-ANHALT on Thursday.

According to the report, on Wednesday and Thursday, 50 members of the state police force systematically searched the forest near the village of Wilhelmshof near Stendal for items of clothing and ‘other things that may have been preserved over time’. There are still many places in the large forest area that have not yet been searched or have not been searched for a long time, according to Hoppen, so it is possible that the state police will be deployed again.

A part of the forest where the girl was last seen was last searched at the beginning of February. There were also several searches last year. Nothing has been found so far.

An eight-strong special investigation team has been working on the so-called cold case in Halle for two years. ‘They have unlimited time and can investigate independently,’ says Hoppen. Previously, the Stendal police station had been in charge of the investigation.

All files in the case have now been digitised, the police spokeswoman explained. This makes it much easier to search through the extensive file material. There are now 4,200 tips. ‘We don't have any real leads in that particular sense,’ said Hoppen said.

🥴

This is beginning to sound a lot like doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results....

They searched with dogs immediately after Inga had gone missing. That would have been the best time to find anything with her scent on. Nothing was found. What are the chances of finding any relevant trace after 10 years? In areas that have previously been searched on top of that? The mind boggles.

I'm glad they are searching more than once, because victims are sometimes missed in forests and later located in areas previously searched. But hopefully they are doing other things they haven't disclosed. It's great there is a new team on the case.

This Friday,on may 2, 2025 - it' is 10 years ago, that 5 year old Inga disappeared:

"The film traces the police work – based on the 40,000-page file, which the research team was granted exclusive access to. Great attention was paid to the search for Inga in the neighboring forests. However, in discussions with relatives and lawyers and by studying the files, the research team determined that there was no evidence that the child had even entered the forest..... "

That was an interesting broadcast @worldwatcher, with interesting conclusions.

- Contrary to what the spokesperson of the Police first said, there appears to be no clear indication that Inga went into the woods with the other children, and hence that she disappeared into / from the woods.

- The story of the dog handler whose dogs allegedly were able to follow traces of Inga hidden in car along 800 kms of roads into Austria beggars belief. What a waste of time. Why did LE ever fall for that one?

Professor Dirk Labudde offers valuable insights. [ Dirk Labudde is a professor of Bioinformatics at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences since 2009, and he founded the first Bachelor’s course of “General and Digital Forensics” in Germany in 2014. He is is head of the research group FoSIL (Forensic Science Investigation Lab) at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, which deals with a vast variety of forensic issues.]

His comments about the disapperance of Inga:

He visits the Wilhelmshof together with the reporters and immediately notes that it is very easy to disappear from sight from the spot where Inga was last seen - by her father if I remember well. Seen from above and from many pictures, the layout of the Wilhelmshof appears very open, when in reality, the buildings are placed in such a way that someone is out of sight within a few steps.

In the files, Dirk Labudde found that according to her sister, Inga was ruhig or quiet that day. Why was she quiet? he wonders. Could it be that earlier in the day she met someone who offered her something that she declined? Something that later on she thought she might have liked after all? In that scenario, Inga 'happens' to see that person again, she feels that she knows them. This time she accepts the offer and they disappear together. Within a few steps, they are out of sight.

IMO this scenario is far more likely than getting lost or abducted in the woods. The thought that the parents, the other children, may also have met the person who took Inga is chilling.

Does anybody know if and when the buildings were searched?

Buildings were searched in the early stages of Inga's disappearance. See page1 of this thread.
