They were seen in Poland in July!

http://www.badische-zeitung.de/frei...rger-teenager-in-polen-gesehen--74692737.html

I'm at work and don't have time to translate right now, but I'll do it tonight if still needed.

Jareau! Great find! Thankyou! and Thank goodness - Maria is Alive!!
I need to clarify a few things from the translator - but, this is WOW good news!

The trail leads to Poland
In the case of the missing Mary Brigitte Henselmann from Freiburg there is the first trail: The 13-year-old and her 53-year-old companion Bernard Haase have been seen in the southern Polish town of Gorlice.

Google Map of Gorlice:

A few things from the article I find AMAZING!
Firstly, that this is a confirmed sighting!

They were driving around in Haase's car with Stolen Number Plates from France.
There the gray Skoda Bernhard Haase is turned off and on 13 July has been ensured by the local police. On car number plates were attached, which had been reported as early as May in Saxony as stolen.
In the main article - does it say the Police have the car now? Or just that the car was seen.

The dog is now not with Haase and Maria anymore.
Also Haase White German Shepherd was left in the room Gorlice. The animal was tied to a garden shed and was found by villagers who have now taken him into their care. The tattoo in the dog's ear, according to police confirmed that it is Haase's shepherd.

They were equipped with hiking backpacks, tents and sleeping pad.
They have not changed their appearances

So this sighting was Mid July.
Its now gone newsworthy - many more links on Google.

It can be assumed that the two were already staying in Poland for several weeks before finding the vehicle and of the dog. Residents confirmed that they were seen to stay in the vehicle. They also bought small amounts of food in small retail stores

The police assumes that is the unequal couple stopped in Poland for several weeks. Witnesses could recognize the two because they had hardly changed their appearance until then. An immediately launched investigation of radio in Poland yielded no results so far. The Federal Criminal Police Office has expanded his investigation into the surrounding Eastern European countries.

I can't even imagine how Maria's mother feels now she has a confirmed sighting of her daughter.

Soon, after the police investigation, the two fled to Saxony. Haase stole mid-May there a license plate from Ludwigshafen, because he knew of the investigation after his car. The first big clue only surrendered on July 13, two and a half months after the disappearance of the girl. There, the car close to the Polish border town of Gorlice was found, apparently abandoned. The police examined the car and found that the two have more or less lived and slept. In the Polish radio, the police asked for witnesses who had seen Mary and Haase. And which reported it himself: in a garden shed at Gorlice, residents found the Shepherd. Haase left him too - and thus the last bridge in his old life, which now lies in ruins behind him. The dog was identified on the tattoo in the ear.

He abandoned his prized dog that he loved so much? And not even left free, but tied up so it could have died of thirst or starvation?

This doesn't sound like a harmless man to me - it sounds like a cruel and cold one.

I know something about Gorlice - I can't remember what though. It will come back to me in a minute. I'm so excited about this news - I hope the word is going out all over Poland, so they don't get the chance to head further east.

Maria's Mom must be so glad, but so worried too that they have disappeared again and Haase appears to be getting desperate.

FigTree - I write the translations down, but it's dear Mr Z who does the actual hard work of translating. I can't take that credit!

Thanks FigTree. Is there any chance you could add Sekowa, Uscie Gorlickie Poland and Polska to the tags? I'm up to my limit.

Danke danke! Hope Jareau comes back - my translator's gone to sleep!

It's very worrying. Haase has abducted a child, abandoned his beloved dog, put false numberplates on his car, probably gave a false name to rent the home he's been hiding in. These things are all adding up to someone who is quite prepared to break the law repeatedly. Maria is being introduced to a life of law-breaking and deceit that can only lead to misery, and she is only 13.

I think Haase has only one hope of escaping the attention of authorities now - and that is to send Maria safely home.

Absolutely zwieb - If only he already had - this wouldn't be happening now. :(

I have a real concern regarding their whereabouts now and where they will end up in the future.
Haase has left a car and a dog behind - and taken camping gear.
Possibly so its easier to move around - or to hide out in woodlands.
But also to be less detectable than they were.
Now there is no Huge Car and White Sheppard Dog - 2 very distinctive items to look out for.

I guess the posters have to be changed too now.

what a relief to hear the news! thanks guys for keeping us updated.

luckily bernhard is not such a smart guy after all. on the contrary he seems to be very dumb. using the same car, stealing plates, leaving the car and dog for others to find, dispatching with camping gear.. makes me happy that little Maria did not get catched by a smart criminal.

the camping excursion is definately the beginning of the end. winter is coming and this will end at least then.

No way can they survive in the woods through a Polish winter, and it's not long before it arrives.

With no vehicle, there is going to be a huge problem if they want to keep moving. Haase will need id to buy another one legitimately, and even if the seller doesn't recognize him at the time, eventually the information will surface and he'll have to abandon that vehicle too. That leaves public transport, where someone is going to recognize them.

It is time for him to put Maria safely on a train heading back to Germany, and then call police to let them know she is on it. I am sure he will find it much easier to disappear on his own. However carefully Haase planned his new life with this little girl, he MUST have realized by now that it is not going to be possible. The publicity will just keep on growing and growing until Maria is found. The moment she does come home, it will all stop.

Maria is not in any trouble. Thousands of people are hoping she comes home soon. Bernhard Haase has done something very wrong. It is time for him to do the right thing now.

I was so sure he would head south to the sun.....I recollect other posters suggested countries to the east of Germany were a likely destination. And I did not believe that first sighting of them from Poland, that was mentioned earlier.....

Thank you to that member of the public in Poland for reporting that information, whoever you are!

Nice post zwieb!
With the sighting being a month old as it is - I hope that has brought with it a month of reflection on what has happened, and time enough for Bernhard Haase to think that tomorrow the running could be over if just ONE right decision is made - that Maria needs to be enabled so she can go home.
Every decision up until that happens will not be right.
Just my opinion.

I hope Maria is home soon.

Where are you honey ? A sighting is great news. Let's home he doesn't know he was sighted, eh?

  • #338
I think he does know Schmae. :( He ran so fast he abandoned his 'treasured' dog, tied up in a yard.

It was a good identifier, but so is his face, and so is Maria's, and he can't exactly leave them behind. I hope police will update the descriptions if anyone noticed any change in their appearance in the village they hid in - especially if Maria's cut or colored her hair. If she has, I think FigTree may be able to come up with a photo of what she would look like.
