I don't know how common it is in Europe but it cant be as common as in the states, children go missing every day over there, just look how fast this forum moves and most of the news is from the states.
It isn't nearly as bad in Europe as in the US. This is actually something I have been wondering and thinking about when we decided to relocate our family to the US - the huge amount of kids going missing over here. I have no clue why it's so much worse in the US though.

It is very scary. DH and I often talk about relocating for the simple reason it is so bad.

This child befriended a stranger his first time out alone. Wasn't he given instructions? Geez.......

The photo makes you realize you could be sitting across the aisle from one of these beasts doing his thing and you wouldn't even know it. This is very, very scary.

I wished I hadnt clicked on the link, how really really awful for the parents, how sad.
Sickos are so clever at luring the kiddies away, you'd think the kid was aware of stranger danger..especially seeing as he was travelling alone.

Well, if it were my child there's no way I would let him catch the train by himself at such a young age.
There's way too many sickos about the place to take a chance like that nowadays, 9 is too young to be travelling alone I dont care what anyone says!
Hello Narla, I agree. There is no way I would let my kids travel anywhere alone. It is just not worth the risk.I will be driving my kids arounduntil they are old enough to drive themselves!

I too would not let my child ride alone at 9. I doubt I will allow him to play outside unsupervised at 9. Call me over protective, but things today are not what they were when we were growing up.

As far as the smug smile. Someone ought to beyotch slap him. Actually with such a clear shot of his face I'd be surprised if someone doesn't pay him some street justice.

Wow...I can't even look at that picture without almost losing it. Poor child. So innocent.

Monster and his prey: little Mitja's tram ride to death caught on film (SOURCE)

February 27, 2007

svTRAIN_narrowweb__300x220,0.jpg
Vision of horror: nine-year-old Mitja sits with sex offender Uwe Kolbig on board a Leipzig tram. The boy was raped and then murdered in the two days that followed his disappearance.
Photo: www.bild.de

A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy called Mitja is smiling innocently at the passenger next to him … unaware that he is a sexual predator who will rape him and take his life within hours of this photograph being taken.

Mitja's body was found dumped in an allotment garden in the German city of Leipzig. He had been raped and strangled.

Two of the men in our little town who have been convicted of perversions such as these were connected to girls softball. One was MY softball coach, the other was a girl's softball umpire. I played catcher with him breathing down MY neck! Both gave me and other young girls the creeps but back then few adults would cast judgement.... Later both were found guilty of multiple illegal acts.

When I was age 16 this same coach actually began following me home at 9:00 at night from my job at a local drugstore. I told my father. My uncle went to him and told him he would 'kill' him if he messed with me any more. Luckily for me, the perv believed my uncle. Unfortunately, he was not afraid of other adult relatives of his young female victims...

Parents you may never be too cautious! Protect your babies!

Hold your babies tight and know where they are an who they are with...It is just sooo sick in the world that although we are wrapping our kids up in cotton wool , what else can be done?
My friend lets her 7 and 9 year old walk to school. It is fairly close to her home but I think she is naive and crazy to let them just go off alone..It is irresponsible of her IMO

...Mitja's death has sparked calls for stricter penalties for sexual predators: in Leipzig alone, before they found the picture linking Mitja to his killer, police found 236 men convicted of offences against children freed early from their sentences and living in the community without neighbours, or the authorities, being aware of them.
This is what I mean - they're everywhere. Not just America, not just Germany, not just slimy looking guys, not just priests, not just anything.

That poor child, that creep bought his a slice of gooseberry tart to lure him in! I guess they wont hang him over there, huh? The police say he is "cunning" you can see that from the picture. Plus he has a daughter, I tell you people are sick!!

I can't honestly say I wouldn't allow my 9-year-old son to take a train by himself. My sons aren't that age yet so it's not something I have to make a decision about. When I was 10, my parents let me take the trolley from our campsite to Disney World by myself and at that age I could ride my bike all over our small town alone or with a friend. I do not think the world is worse today as regards these types of horrible things. In fact, I think the world is better today for children than it ever has been.

The picture is haunting. I think that's what makes this case stick so much. I look at that picture and want to do something to save that sweet young child. The hindsight in this case is what's so heartbreaking.

My prayers to the family of this child. I hope they will not blame themselves.

This is truely heartbreaking. My prayers are also with this child's family.
I REALLY wish that I could reach through my computer, throught cyberspace and slap the s*it out of this guy. The only time I feel like doing physical harm to someone is when I see or hear about these monsters who do these things to children.... :furious: :furious:
