Agreed. Aren't all banana split toppings child friendly? This is either over-written by a professional writer acting in Gerry's place, or it just goes to show how out of touch with real children and child development Gerry is.

Steadfast, you said it very well. The only thing people want to see on Gerry's blog is what exactly is going on with the search for Madeleine. I honestly could not care less about how the twins are learning vocabulary or settling in, etc.

The only possible thing I think he could have meant was perhaps there were not any nuts for a topping, since tiny kids can choke on those or be allergic or something. I would think all other toppings would be "child-friendly".....but that's such a weird way of stating it. :hand: Gerry is enough of a "nut".

Gerry sure is nuts if he thinks that the twins lives are just going on as usual and the sudden disappearance of their big sister isn't affecting them somehow.

The blog is just so very casual and matter of fact, like someone said - it's like life just went on....like "oh, well, no big deal". They've actually been blogging (probably unintentionally) about how they've been enjoying life as usual for the most part - Dinner with friends, kids splashing in the water, attending church, play time, happy exclamation pointed sentences, jogs while God knows what is happening to one of their babies by some "predatory abductor" - I'd be huddled in a corner rocking and screaming and crying uncontrollably and it would get worse as days went by not better as my imagination went wild wondering what kind of torture my child was suffering! There's no way I'd be up for "blogging" or dining and laughing with friends I'd be in a mental ward or on my hands and knees outside looking EVERYWHERE for my child until I dropped dead from exhaustion.
There's something not right about these people. Where's the grief? Where's the devastation?

I agree. I read some of his blogs - couldn't stand to read all of them. I didn't like the lah te dah life goes on here is what WE did today.

The whole blog sounds, to me, like a journal from someone who is recording daily events for easy recall when it's time to write a book. I'll be very surprised if one doesn't come out of all of this. In his journal, it is quite obvious that he is speaking to someone and not just recording his thoughts - however, I don't see where he speaks to Maddie. Especially the first few days when he started the blog/journal -

I would be writing things like, "Woke, this morning. My heart aches so for my dear little girl. I didn't get much sleep last night, as the whole evening of her disappearance continually runs through my mind. Kate and I replay that evening over and over again....." and so on and so on. Not, the BS about what a lovely day we had and the children had ice cream and we went jogging. I'm sorry guys, but that really irks me to not end and is a bunch of BS IMO!!!!! :furious:

Is it just me or are banana splits an unusual dessert for 2-year-olds, whether the toppings are regular child-friendly or extra child-friendly? Does someone cut up the bananas into bite-sized pieces for them or do they pick them out of the goo and eat them by hand? Why would anyone bother with serving up 3 scoops of ice cream, slicing bananas, adding 3 different toppings, whipped cream and cherries to a dish for a toddler who couldn't possibly finish it? I bet they were eating small sundaes. My point is -- and I know you must be wondering! -- I think either Gerry wasn't paying any real attention to what the children were eating or he is trying to exaggerate what a wonderful life his children are getting.

At least he could have acknowledged that Madeleine was missing out. Isn't that who his blog is about? Oh wait, strangely it isn't.

I think that's exactly what "child friendly" toppings probably meant: the same ingredients as a banana split, but the bananas were sliced up instead of split in two, etc. The cherries were probably halved. And not the full three scoops of ice cream, etc.

That sounds like a reasonable explanation. Could be he's not clueless or exagerrating there after all.

Loved your post. And I totally agree. I think of this case, and the reactions of the parents and become ill at their attitudes. I don't know how many of you read up on the Anna Waters case here on WS, but Anna has been missing since age 5 for 35 years, and her mother, bless her heart, is STILL actively searching for her daughter. You can feel her pain in her post. Annasmom could barely breath for the first year...and here the McCanns are working on body fitness, and going shopping. Annasmom did eventually have to go on with life for the sake of her other children, but she has never stopped searching for her daughter...

The McCanns are very strange people.

LOL...I'm sure the twins will be required to Jog 3 miles a day by the time they are 5. Got to look good for the camera.

Seriously, my kids would have barfed at a banana split at 2, a simple cup of soft serve, (OR a sliced banana) was all they could handle at that age.

Great post lovebites, I feel the McCanns know what happened to Madelaine, so therefore they can move on, the not knowing would kill me, like you I would be in a psych ward or spending every hour of every day and night searching and asking questions. When you know what has happened about anything you can move on, when you dont know something you cant move on till you know what has happened. Its hard to put into words, its the not knowing, your imagination and/or thoughts that would be going through your mind if you didnt truly know what had happened to your missing child would send you crazy.

Exactly! And to go home without them and to see their empty room with their little toys as they left them and their little clothes and stuffed animals and dollys - you'd just crumble to the floor and die inside. I know couldn't survive it. Heck, I know I wouldn't be able to leave the place where they'd gone missing - not unless somone dragged me out of their by force.

I agree. You'd think that thoughts of missing Maddie would be peppered constantly throughout - about how much they miss hearing her sweet voice, her laughter, tucking her into bed at night, reading her stories, seeing her sweet face, her sweet smile etc etc etc......
Does he ever even mention these things? Does he ever write about wondering what's happening to her or being scared to death for her?
Seems like all he does is talk about himself and the remaining family as though they've already stopped looking and have accepted she's not returning and frankly, haven't even stopped to miss her.

That poor mom (Annasmom). She's probably been haunted her whole life with the only things keeping her going being her other children and the quest to find her missing daughter. That would be a nightmare.

I tend to agree with the posters here who believe the McCanns know what happened to Maddie and that's why their behavior is so "off".
