Getting a hold of missing person detective

I'm sure the answer is somewhere on here, but I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. Are we allowed to contact LE about a missing person? The person I am thinking of went missing in the 80's and there is hardly any information about the missing person. I was trying to look into the case more, and thought about contacting the detective in charge of the case to see if they had any other information about them that just isn't in Namus, charlieproject or doenetwork files. Has anyone done this and had luck? If so, how did you ask or what did you ask? There isn't an email, only a number. I don't have a problem calling but I also don't want to sound stupid or get in trouble for asking about something that I shouldn't. Thanks for any advice anyone has!

Yeah, I don't even think there is a second page for their thread. There's just simply no information. I've also tried googling, looking on other social media platforms to see if anyone had any information. Nada.

You can file a FOIA or PIA with the investigating agency and see what you can get. Sounds like it is a cold case. IDK maybe worth a try. Good luck
