Could someone tell me if the sail being damaged could keep them from making it back to land? I know the report said the engine was still running. Also how long could that boat run before the gas ran out?

If there was a storm would they get in a dingy? There are conflicting reports about there being a dingy and the radio. There have been a lot of shark attacks in Australia. In fact there was a case there last year or the year before where two sharks jumped up out of the water and got a water skier. If they got in that water to swim or fish sharks are a possibility.

Wouldn't they know if the boat had been anchored when they found it? The first report said a helicopter spotted the dingy on wednesday.

I have been thinking about this, and have come to the thought that we have to keep it simple.

Who would put food on the table, meaning it was served and it was 'vinez pour diner' time and then go swimming? Nope, don't think so Sweetie. I wouldn't. And those fenders being down, now that is probably an ultimate clue as to what happened.

They were getting settled at the table when they heard a call from outside over a horn or loudspeaker system, that they had guests. They all rallied to the deck to see what was up, when they were met by a vessel, signalling them to board. They threw over the fenders, helped them tie up, and then out came the guns.

Now I have to go back to the drawing board to figure out why they wanted to board that boat? I'll dream on it tonight. LOL

But from the clues we have, that is what it tells me. And on the open sea, no one is going to stage a crime. They'd figure the boat would sink before landlubbers would come out and finding it avast!

In the picture of the boat there is a dingy tied to it.....dont know how many dingies they had.
I know nothing about sailing so Im not much help to you Strach......the motor still running after a week sort of indicates that they had plenty of fuel to get to land safely.... if they left the boat on their own accord one would think that they would anchor it.

My hubby is a keen yacht sailor. His opinion is that the sail was damaged due to windchange and no-one to tend it. We are also of the opinin that these guys are deceased.

I do agree Kazzbar that they were probably dead in the water, although they should be able to sail without using all the sails. I don't know that much about sailing. I had a Sunfish with a rudder and one sail, and did just fine on the lake. LOL

Maybe that is why they jumped at the chance for help when a boat steered alongside them, and they welcomed them with open arms. Unfortunately, I think there were ulterior motives on the part of those on the other boat.

What would they gain by taking hostage or posession of these 3 men? Was anything stolen from the boat, like their passports, money, etc? Did they want to use them in some way for financial profit, or sex? Who knows what brazen men will do at times. I have heard there are pirates on the seas today as we speak, only they are dressed in jeans and T-shirts!

Is there a Triangle area off Australia like there is off of Florida? I know there is another spot where things disappear besides the Bermuda Triangle off of Fl.

The bottom line is if they were ready to all sit down to dinner and didn't eat, something called them away and they were never able to go back to eat. And the fenders, there was a reason for it or they never would have flipped them over! Scandi

YaYa! LOL I do hope they get to the bottom of it. Sounds like there was some skullduggery involved. Do we know where Brad Pitt was when this happened?

I don't mean to make light of it at all, but something either happened that was so simple we can't see it or else something beyond the realm of what we believe in this day and age could happen, took place. We need answers!

The three sailors were last seen leaving the northeastern town of Airlie Beach on April 15, the first leg of a two-month trip around Australia's north coast.

Three days later, a coastal patrol plane spotted the Kaz II drifting aimlessly some 150 kilometers (95 miles) offshore. Rescuers who boarded the vessel found the engines running, a laptop computer charging, even food and cutlery laid out on the table -- but no sign of the crew.

The men's clothes were found folded in neat piles on the rear deck.

Investigators who reviewed the vessel's global positioning system said the boat had been drifting with the wind and currents since Sunday, when the trio may have hit rough seas.

But the Bureau of Meteorology has said the men would have faced moderate southeast winds up to 35 kph (22 mph; 20 knots) that day, nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year.

I just saw a movie where an anaconda killed some guy on his boat.
Anaconda II: The Blood Orchid.

Wouldn't that be bizarre if it was the same kind of thing?

I hope that the crew is found soon. :(
Prayers for those men and their families.

If they were going to go swimming, why wouldn't they leave their clothes on their bunks--why folded neatly on the rear deck?? This is the one piece of the puzzle that seems most out of place to me.

I wonder how much each of the gentlemen's life insurances may have run to and if they had all three thought about a fresh start having maybe left their families financially covered?

Hi dear Floh, yes I was also thinking along the same lines as you.It would be interesting to know the details of any policies if they do exist.I also wonder how financial these fellows were... after all it was a very nice boat so presumably the owner was not on food stamps.
I also have doubts about how exprienced these fellows were at sailing..
