I still want to know what the GPS history showed. The men gave their position as being just off George Point at 6:45PM on Sunday, April 15th. Did that radioed position agree with the GPS history reading??

Buzz
A friend showed me an article last week in the Herald and, I just skimmed through it but will have another look as it did say something about the GPS history but I'm not sure what- probably nothing you can't find online but will check anyway-

I am sorta going with the sand bar theory now- sounds plausible- also they could all swim not sure if you knew that already- but one of them looked really old and kinda feeble- ya wouldnt think they would have got him to help push but maybe it required all hands on deck...........

Buzz I just rang my mate to save the article for me and she chucked it this morning and it's bin day  - oh well- it probably didn't say anything we can't access online, I will go look see if I can see the same article

I wonder if LE is still investigating this case?? They called off the search fairly quickly, but one would think that the investigation would continue. If they are, they are being very closed about it.

About three months ago there was a sailor, and his boat, disappear off of San Francisco. Boat, and all, gone without any trace. I'll see if I can dig up an article.

dingo, I found this, which gives a pretty good description of their course on that first day.

http://www.police.qld.gov.au/News+a...tigation+continues+missing+catamaran+crew.htm

“Police have been able to conduct some preliminary investigations into their GPS navigational equipment and it appears the catamaran was travelling on course on Sunday.

“Initial investigations indicate sometime that day the vessel may have been tracking in a direction towards an area where some high wind squalls and rough seas were building.

“Following this the vessel seems to have travelled a course in accordance with tidal and wind influences. This indicates to us that the men may have been missing from the boat sometime Sunday,” Chief Superintendent Wall said.

“The circumstances surrounding their disappearance are still being investigated and there are a number of possible theories which are being looked at. However the early indications are that their disappearance does not appear to be suspicious.

“As a result of this information the search has been condensed to an area between Airlie Beach and Bowen. The search will continue and will be assessed on a daily basis,” Chief Superintendent Wall said.

After reading that report it seems that it could be as simple as them running into bad weather and getting tossed over board.........that way of thinking does spoil a good mystery though:)

We need to have Chief Superintendent Wall attach some times to the following three statements:

1. “Police have been able to conduct some preliminary investigations into their GPS navigational equipment and it appears the catamaran was travelling on course on Sunday, From: To:

2. “Initial investigations indicate sometime that day From: To: the vessel may have been tracking in a direction towards an area where some high wind squalls and rough seas were building.

3. “Following this the vessel seems to have travelled a course in accordance with tidal and wind influences, From: To:. This indicates to us that the men may have been missing from the boat sometime Sunday,” Chief Superintendent Wall said.
