''Police have ended their investigation into the disappearance of a Royal Navy sailor 39 years ago.
Simon Parkes, from Bristol, was last seen in December 1986 when the ship he was serving on, HMS Illustrious, was docked in Gibraltar.
The 18-year-old radio operator failed to return after a night out with crewmates and the ship returned to Portsmouth without him.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said, following the advice of the Crown Prosecution Service, that the investigation would be filed unless further information came to light.''
Hampshire Police said the investigation into the disappearance of Royal Navy sailor Simon Parkes in 1986 would lie on file but urged anyone with information to come forwards

'Police are still urging anyone who was on HMS Illustrious and knew Simon to come forward if they have not yet done so. Det Supt Edwards said: "That plea also goes out to anyone who lived in Gibraltar at that time or was on holiday there on December 12 1986.'
