Gilgo Beach 4 Only (GB4)

While researching calls Unsub made to Melissa Barthelemy’s younger sister, I’ve found several references indicating Unsub had also contacted her boyfriend Johnny Terry, a.k.a “Blaze”, up to 30 times in 8 months and threatened to kill him. Does anyone have any links that may provide more details about these phone calls, or information “Blaze” may have given regarding her disappearance?

I do remember hearing her bf received calls from LISK supposedly threatening him, but a number of times wasnt mentioned from my recollection. Calling to threaten someone 30 times is a lot, & if thats true, LISK loves to taunt his victims loved ones. Also, calling 30 times is very risky, & I wonder if her bf contacted the detectives/police to allow them to tap his phone.

Thats a lot of calls in an 8 month period.......

I don't remember the number of calls either, to Blaze, but I do remember it being mentioned that Blaze said he received a call where the guy said (I'm paraphrasing) 'I know where you be at." I think it was in a book, perhaps Lost Girls, by Kolker. If someone can verify this, please add. I had an ebook version, can't find reference at the moment.

Found the quote having to do with "Blaze," as written in Lost Girls by Kolker, pg. 243, (ebook version) "One reporter even reached Blaze, who, quoted by his given name, Johnny Terry, claimed he’d also received strange calls—about thirty, he said, over eight months—from someone he described as a “white guy.” “He was threatening me,” he said. “He said, “You liked to do some crazy stuff with Melissa. I know where you be at.’” The police traced the caller’s number not to Melissa’s cell but to a disposable phone registered in the name of Mickey Mouse."

Other than that actual reference, I have not run across much so far as content/additional info. I think I saw one interview with him. If I can find it, I will post a link.

The only interview JT gave as far as I know was to the daily beast which is now behind a paywall. It can be viewed however by manipulating the url and placing it in the wayback machine. I think the MM burner calls were the ones to the sister. There are reasons to believe that the calls to JT did not come from the killer.

just a copy cat or someone just being cruel possibly someone who didn't like him already and knew this would be twisting the knife?

New information on News Nation.
It was revealed the killer also made calls from Freeport and Lindenhurst Long Island.

Referring the above article: "Alexis Linkletter, who runs the true crime podcast “The First Degree,” said no new commonalities of the four victims were released in this information dump.

The killer went so far as to call and taunt the families of some of his victims. Linkletter said it is unclear how those calls have aided the investigation because police have not released that information, but said it is known that calls were made from Freeport and Lindenhurst in addition to Massapequa and Manhattan."

Do we know if that is true? Has anyone been able to access the Gilgo website to confirm that it was the killer who made the calls, or Melissa? Or, were they just pings?

From Gilgo Website:
Melissa Barthelemy
On July 12, 2009, the night that she was last seen, Barthelemy told a friend [John Terry] she was going to see a man and would be back in the morning. This friend was aware she was a sex worker, but Barthelemy offered no other details. Her cellphone records show she traveled from the Bronx to Manhattan, most likely via taxi.

Barthelemy’s mother had not heard from her or been able to contact her for a few days so she reported her missing to the NYPD on July 18, 2009. The investigation showed cellphone activity in Manhattan, Freeport, Massapequa and Lindenhurst. Motels in and near these neighborhoods were investigated.

Cellphone activity. Don't know what that means.

Going back to square one which, incredibly, I don't think has ever been officially clarified:
Were Maureen, Melissa, Megan and Amber found in burlap sacks or wrapped in burlap?

Going on memory only from those first days after the discovery, the bodies were described as being wrapped in burlap. Since they had been there a while, IIRC, some of the burlap had obviously deteriorated.

This most recent article, however, claims they were in burlap bags

Link to an older article still on the internet

Suffolk County police confirmed a total of four bodies, three of them found late Monday along a stretch of the Oak Beach community between Gilgo and Cedar beaches.

Detectives on the scene were not offering theories.

Police sources told Newsday some of the bodies were wrapped in burlap and at least one was female. That was reportedly the first body. The skeletal remains were found Saturday just before 3 p.m. by Officer John Mallia and his canine officer "Blue."

Thanks Betty. Although not possible to be sure bc the media really fubar'd this mess. But wrapped in burlap always sounded more plausible to me. Plus, Suffolk County has used geotextiles like burlap to aid erosion control by providing these big barriers of burlap (almost like a tube) and filling them w sand. They also pumped in alot of sand from other places to replenish. And in 2009 Hurricane Bill beach damage was severe; in some areas the damage was the worst since Hurricane Gloria in 1985. So one might wonder if perhaps things (bodies) that had been previously out of sight, were moved or effected during that storm. I'd assume large amounts of burlap would be on hand fairly often.

I was unable to garner new information from this article, except that calls to the victim’s families also originated from Freeport and Lindenhurst in addition to Massapequa and Manhattan.

Being that a cell phone was used to make the calls, the origins would have to indicate tower pings. Could the calls have been made by Unsub while traveling on LIRR Babylon line? All of the named towns have a stop along the Babylon line.

There is a notable inconsistency in the article. Shannan went missing before Megan’s body was discovered. Megan’s body was discovered as a result of the wider investigation triggered by Shannan’s disappearance.

If the cell phone activity in the article refers to activity on the night of July 12, 2009 it is possible that Melissa took the subway to Penn Station in Manhattan, and then took the Long Island Rail Road to Long Island. The train along the Babylon line passes Freeport, then Massapequa and then Lindenhurst which is the second to last stop before Babylon.

This could mean that Unsub picked Melissa up at the Babylon train station on the night of July 12, 2009.

Babylon Train Station is approximately 15 minutes from Ocean Parkway by car.

That's specifically what I think happened. (Small detail: I don't think she took the subway. The Gilgo site says her cell phone activity shows she "most likely took a taxi". All that means is the phone never lost signal whilst on the subway - that it remained above ground. Could've taken a taxi, sure. Also could've been driven by someone.) But aside from that detail, I agree w you.

Yes! That's the closest station to Gilgo, Oak Beach, etc. If the victim was being picked up by LISK, perhaps this station was chosen by him, not just for the close proximity to Oak Beach, etc., but also because it's less crowded? JMO, just guessing.
