If his family was out of town for several weeks he could have emptied out the vault temporarily.

If he was utilizing a weapons rack system or a cubed weapons storage sytem within his vault then 300 weapons would take up minimal floor space, would be securely locked and any victim finding themselves within the vault wouldn't be able to access them anyway.

Think of what you see in a doctor's office where all the files are in cubed cabinets that roll together to minimize the floor space they take up ...

The top photo in the above with the 3 troops, just one side of one of those racks holds 96 long barrelled weapons. With one double-sided roll rack and one single sided roll rack he would have had space for 288 long barrelled weapons taking up virtually zero of his vault space. When the two are rolled together, they are locked in and secure, when open (apart from each other) each 'cage/rack' is still individually locked and then once the doors of a 'cage/rack' are opened, one can still employ a further locking bar or chain accross eack rack for additional security.

IMO, if he went to the expense of constructing a vault with an iron door, he didn't just toss up to 300 weapons in there haphazardly and insecurely; he'd have had them organized in order to be able to find the one he was looking for and, most likely, used a rack system of some type (which can all be locked too).

Signs of a prepper: stock piling guns, ammo, armor, hoarding food, distrust in govt in regards to guns, collecting military vehicles, acquiring multiple plots of land to be used as a compound, building safe rooms/vaults. Though not at all indicative of anything on it's own (and please for the sake of open discussion, this is not a political attack, it is fact) preppers hold conservative views as core values. Some states have public voting records.

That said, besides hoarding food, armor, and ammo, RH checks the boxes. He may or may not have those things in Massapequa. No confirmed word on that so there is no use in assuming he does. We also know nothing about what he has stored on his other properties.

He might be a prepper. I personally think that he has the tell tale signs of being a Bluebeard and want to know what happened to his first wife, or whether any of his past girlfriends disappeared. Bluebeards kill out of disappointment, all women are the same, and deserve the same punishment. Maybe there was someone close to him that disappeared, not just the SWs.

we can take it that his obsession continued, lE stated they moved in because they expected he was getting ready to do it again. They probably had everything wire tapped.. it was ongoing..

I'm struggling to match it with prepping, prepping in every sense and for every reason known..

i'm also struggling to place him in a group of any like minded people except perhaps the darkest of perverts with whom he may have traded people or images..

i wonder whether that is a thing?
If so it could have, at a stretch brought him to a prepping ideology though a rare one?

Maybe so. I suspect there is more than could be passed off as random clutter, but maybe not.

It's tradition in my family to downsize and minimize as you age, as a gift to your children so they don't have to deal with a bunch of household stuff. It's so normal to me, but I know that is not something everyone considers. I'm younger than RH but already think of it. I'll pipe down as I realize others don't find his stuff a curiosity (and evidence) like I do.

Whatever his plan was or wasn't, it didn't work.

As for RH, I am still thinking if he was some degree of a prepper or a hoarder. The guns, the vault and the reporterd overflow of, well, stuff around the house, coupled with the poor state of the house. Just makes me wonder. Not that I think there is any insanity plea or anything like that, but just trying to understand what he was like in his life.

I am dealing with cleaning out a hoard left by a parent. I can definitely say that random items would likely be tossed as trash by anyone dealing with the hoard at a later time, especially if the items were seemingly innocuous (like some rope, or tape, or random keys, etc.). So much of a hoard is dirty & dusty from time; plus, when cleaning out a hoard, you just get tired from the sheer amounts of stuff & are ready to dump things. My guess is that RH didn't plan to get caught and there wouldn't have necessarily been anything later that would have raised suspicion if someone was cleaning out his hoard (if he was never arrested as a perp). MOO.

For the dates mentioned in the deposition, no, I haven't seen anything on namus that matches. (Its possible, may not be found yet?) As far as older cases, from the mid-nineties, I'm scratching my head about Alicia Showalter Reynolds. There's another thread on here about her and many suspected men have been checked and convicted of other murders, but hers lingers. Route 29 would be a route leading to the area he visited many times. Not derailing, but he has so many states he's frequented, the lines are very blurred as to what can we even bring up under each thread.

Quite the contrary - The goal of being a successful prepper would be to be prepared to take care of you and your own, being able to defend your home and stash from others and without having to participate in a society (or whatever is left) or rely on others.

Agree. It was spoken, not written, but I didn't hear that characterization as a direct quote...I heard a discription of her absorption of info. If I got news like that, I'd probably believe it, but simultaneously find it unbelievable. I'd say something to express my intention to act on the words I'm being told, rather than what I feel is possible. 'It is what it is,' expresses that.

Edited to add: several posters have found it printed and the statement is in quotes. It remains possible it was not a literal quote. But the articles were written such that the phrase was an exact quote. So- perhaps my assumption was wrong. Dang it, assuming usually ends poorly. I should know better.

I would especially like to hear from his Jones Beach co-workers and guy running buddies as a youth and late teens early 20s. What they did, was it outside, exploring, all the idyllic things we read about in books that youngsters get into. Did Rex do any of that?

Oh I meant ironic because “Arsenic and Old Lace” is about serial killers lol. But I am also genuinely interested to learn more about his younger years. I believe I read somewhere that after his father died he became more anxious to get home to his mother than play with the other kids.

I know one case they are looking into is in S.C., Aaliyah Bell went missing 2 days before Thanksgiving in 2014, 20 miles from his property. So far LE can’t name him as a suspect, but I don’t know if they’ve been able to place him in that area during that timeframe.

Yes, it is in his deposition for a lawsuit he filed for being hit by a car and has many good bits of info!! The file is too large to upload, but can be viewed at Document List

It is Item #20 under the case.
He had shoulder surgery February 2018, and also mentioned a "mesh" hernia surgery he had 2014 or 2015.

As per my previous post, he mentions several trips as well that are telling of some of his movements in more recent years up to 2018 when the desposition was done.
