The highest match percentage of the female hairs excluded 99.98% of the North American population. Let's limit that percentage to the Long Island population in 2010. That would be 15.136 possible matches.
That's assuming the population of the US is homogenous, with every area having exactly the same mix of backgrounds. RH's wife is Icelandic. Apart from her direct family, how many Icelandic Long Islanders are there? I presume there would be more than just her family, but I doubt it would be a large number.

Pavor, as a new poster you have the right to your opinions here, as do we all.

I think that you are aware of this. JMO
snipped for my response

This is (another) great article providing info on evidence, thank you

Heuermann's lawyer will certainly bring that up. And the time differences too.
It's his lawyers job to do that, certainly. Everyone has the right to be defended in court no matter what they are accused of, or how scary we might think they look.

For me, IMO, there are too many coincidences to dismiss lightly. But I do hope they found something in their searches to back up the initial claims.

Yes, I'm reading it but I get confused. At one time they seem to be claiming he was using THREE phones (his own phone, a burner and Melissa Barthelemy's phone). They never write what cell towers Heuermann's own phone attached to. It just states New York City? And it's usually at least an hour between "switches".
It's a Bail Document. Not trial.
They didn't need to go into every chronological detail, it wasn't the time or place.
What you are looking for will come out at trial...moo

sorry, you misunderstood my question....I'm familiar with a fair amount of US legal terms but not "motions"

I know what the buccal swab is and can see it was filed on 1 July (for reference of differences - in my country date would be written 01/08 instead of the way round you guys write it )

So you enquired why swab was under motions - I still don't know what that means...
I'm wondering why they're requesting the court to make a decision on a buccal swab.
That's what I understand the term to mean anyway - a motion is a request to the court to decide on something. Could be completely way off as IANAL, but it seemed a little odd to me. What is it about the buccal swab that needs a decision? Would expect a swab to be taken when someone is arrested on murder charges (again, possibly wrong in my expectation here!) so is the swab is from something else and before he was charged so the defence doesn't want it used?
Just seemed a little strange to me

Well, alot of people would ping those towers. They haven't specified what towers, have they? Massapequa Park had a population of 17k in 2010. Midtown Manhattan is probably more or less worthless as evidence of anything.

As far as I understand the DNA found is mitochondrial DNA? How accurate is that? I can't find the source again but when I googled it some time ago it was like 99.6% accurate as far as I can recall. There are over 8 million people living on Long Island. Take 0.4% of that and you have about two Massapequa Parks worth of matches.

But then again, I wish I could find out how accurate it is. Must be online somewhere. Maybe there's a DNA expert on this site?
LE didn't need 99.6% accuracy. They needed a legal arrest. LE acquired just that.

The result was not "Icelandic hair" but "mitochondrial haplogroup K1c2". That could mean German hair too.

How about in 2010? And if the burner phones and Heuermann's own phone were connecting to the same towers why didn't they mention that? As I said, for Heuernann's own phone it's always unnamed call locations in New York City.
Was there a need to mention that? Looks to me they got what they wanted. They had what they need to secure an arrest.

Right. NY has two time zones, then?
The time difference between burner phones attaching to cell towers and Heuermann's own phone connecting to cell towers.

his defense will have to be that he just picked SWs who all happened to be killed by some one else- of course he called them....and he left hairs- of course he did. Not sure about the harassing calls to relatives. that's a tough one to explain away, but those will have to have been done by the other killer. wonder if he has any alibis for the days the victims disappeared. so long ago it would be unusual if he has calendars from those dates, but LE is saying it was when his family was away. He can have other SWs testify that he was always nice and polite to them; would not hurt a fly.
i don't think so.. I believe they will have found tons of trophies. He can't explain that away.

which text are you citing?
If you put a link on your posts I'll be able to understand what you are saying. Does NY have 2 time zones, then? I know some states have.. but I'm over here in Iceland and often get mixed up

That female person, with that profile who would have to be in close proximity to a male with a profile that matches RH (hairs from both left on Megan), the male whose profile cannot be excluded from RH (pizza box, then buccal swab).

The numbers on the probability of that occurring in two other random LI residents who also have connections to Massapequa Park and Midtown, where the female is known to be out of the region when the killings happened, where the male is out of the country when Melissa's phone is off, but her phone is back on the day after he is back home... the numbers on that are going to be far, far lower.

It isn't one piece of evidence he's been arrested on the weight of, it's the totality of what they have gathered, and we're only seeing a fraction of it so far. Wait until trial, and we're going to see exactly how much they have and how it connects. The CAST evidence from Gannon's trial was particularly compelling. I think this trial is going to hinge just as hard on the data.

I agree so far, as in my eyes he is not looking scary or ugly. To name him ie. "Frankenstein", I find completely exaggerated. Nevertheless he is a killer; we will learn, how many victims he left behind.
I am going to take a leap here that white males are having a problem identifying Rex as odd, leery, intimidating, or hulking. As a petite framed, short POC female, he is ALL those things. And males that have oddball behaviors, seem secretive, and/or have solitude attitudes should give someone red flags. You're not going to see where I'm coming from and I'm a bit sleep deprived at the moment to take this any further than that but I believe this will resonate with men and women that have survived certain experiences. MOST serial killers are profiled as white and male in the USA for obvious population volume alone. So sex workers, associates, his next-door neighbor, they have all said this guy made them think he was narcissistic, dangerous, and pulling a fast one on them (including a woman in Massapequa Park shortly before his actual arrest.

The guy, essentially has resting <modsnip: profanity> face. That's what you fail to identify and see due to society's blindsights.

"Rex Heuermann’s attorney has said that the suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer is “traumatised” by his sudden arrest – as he claims that the 59-year-old married father-of-two has already been “convicted by the media”.

I wonder if his victims felt traumatized?!!!

So I've been doing some research on missing and women murdered in Las Vegas ... Since RH has/had a timeshare there and it Vegas is a mecca for prostitution. Is there a thread for those cases being connected to RH somewhere ...or is it appropriate to bring up sleuthing the possible connection to RH in those individual threads for each woman? Also some interesting things in Reno... I hope I'm making sense. I got little sleep last night because insomnia! That's probably how I got into sleuthing to begin with... Sigh.
There's a thread about Victoria Camara, you could group the Las Vegas girls together - Las Vegas Serial Killer
