Sadly, it appears Karen's father passed in Dec of last year. However, it's possible he knew his daughter had been found before his death.
I think he would have known. From the Presser:
"In August of 2022, approximately 6 months after we formed this Gilgo Task Force, a DNA profile suitable for genealogical comparison was developed from the remains of Karen Vergata.

"In September of 2022, the FBI was able, via a genetic genealogy review, to identify Ms. Vergata."

So, apparently the family knew from about then, don't you think? Sadly, it may have been the way she died that . . . well, just speculation but to know that outcome for a child must be devastating.

I can’t bring over link but WPXI has RH picture with the Gilgo murders and Karen

They didn't even allude to it, but we are all thinking the same thing I am sure...
Agreed. I know I am. It would definitely fit in with the timeline where Heuermann would have been around that age when serial killers murder their first victim. She was a little bit older than the other victims, but I am wondering if she looked young for her age and he thought she was much younger.

What year did RH get married to his current wife?
I believe it was..1993 or 1994? I could be completely wrong though. I do know it was after 1990 because that was when he got divorced from his first wife.

Wow. The sketch of Fire Island Jane Doe kinda nailed it!

If she didn't wear bangs when she disappeared, it was quite close.

This does not prove anything connecting Rex H., but.....those hazel eyes. He seemed really into the eyes.

I find the consistency with eyes kinda creepy, because it suggests a very intimate interest in the face of the person you will murder. Whatever the product of creepy times a million is- that's the adjective I'm looking for.

They way I look at it is that the prosecutor in the RH case made the announcement, and all three departments involved in the GILGO Task Force were present. Take from that what you will, although no official statements were made. MOO
Been wondering that myself. Also, this identification was made in September-October, her family notified in October, and from the Presser:
we were beginning our grand jury confidential investigation into what has been known as the Gilgo 4 -- that is, the murders of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello -- so we decided we were not going to make any public comment at this time."

The confidential Grand Jury Gilgo 4 investigation began immediately on the heels of learning this name. RH had been identified as a suspect in what February or March?

certainly suggestive . . .

Have just come across the unsolved case of Tina Foglia, who went missing in NY, Suffolk County in 1982 connected with a LI nightclub outing. Petite, C.O.D asphyxiation, precision in the dismemberment (sorry) of her body, remains found by the roadside on the route to Gilgo Beach. Prior to her death, Tina had allegedly met up with a 'doctor' a few times, according to friends and family.

Post in thread 'NY - Tina Foglia, 19, West Islip, 1 Feb 1982'

Has this ever been discussed in relation to RH/LISK? Sorry if this is a duplicate post.

More info here:
Doctor that's interesting.

Something about this image of Karen gives me Shannan Gilbert vibes. Of course, JMO
Agree. She reminds me a lot of SG as does, Judith Ramona Veloz, who the Gilgo task force just added to NAMUS

Karen was born 11/4/61 and was 34 years old at the time of her disappearance. She has brown hair and brown eyes?, 5"? And 110 lbs?.

Her father last heard from her on his birthday on Valentine's Day 1996 when she was living on West 45th Street in NYC. Karen and her family are originally from Glen Head, NY. She went to St. Mary's Elementary School in Roslyn and graduated from North Shore High School in Glen Head in 1979.

At some point after high school, she is living in Fort Launderdale, FL. In September/October 1983, she is arrested in New Orleans, LA on drug charges. It would appear she may have spent a year in prison for this offense. In November 1983, she is also indicted by a federal grand jury of selling diet pills in CT with 5 other individuals. In June 1987, she also has federal charges that are undisclosed and were dismissed in July 1991. In 1989-1992 (and perhaps longer), she was living on Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn.

She has a son, who was 8 years at the time of her death. Sometime in late 1989 - early 1990, both her & her son (who was a toddler at the time) were involved in a car accident, which may have been the reason for the surgical scars on her legs.

In July 2017, her father had her officially declared deceased. In that legal filing, the father states that he spoke to multiple law enforcement agencies to try to report her missing, hired a private Investigator to determine her whereabouts and spoke to several acquaintances of hers.
So much for 'never reported missing'. That phrase makes me so angry, because as someone who follows Does, that so often is part of the police statement when they're identified, and then it comes out that the families did everything they could and the police did nothing, often wouldn't even take their loved one's information. Of all cases, of all police, you'd think the Gilgo Task Force would do their best to avoid making that horrendous blunder.

Investigators with the Gilgo Beach Homicide Investigation Task Force added the profile of Judith Ramona Veloz, a Bronx teen who vanished from Manhattan in 1993, to a national missing persons database last October.

RH would’ve been 29 or 30, then. This was in the years between his first and second marriage and while he was working the internship in Freeport, NY. It is the year before he started his business and bought his mother’s home.

Hmmm…maybe it’s just me, but does anyone else see a slight resemblance to the other victims? I don’t mean in the sense that she is a relative/family member to one of the other victims. But to me she seems to look like the other women in very subtle ways.

I guess saying “at the time LE didn’t give a crap about sex workers” would have made them look bad

100% agree with you. It is so awful when this happens. It’s such a slap in the face to not only the victim, but the victim’s family as well.

She looks most like Amber to me, perhaps because of her dark hair and long nose.
