The estranged wife of accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex A. Heuermann is speaking out, declaring in a statement Wednesday that she visits her husband weekly and still maintains that Rex is not capable of the crimes he is accused of.

Asa Ellerup, who filed for divorce from her husband of 27 years in the days following his July 13 arrest in connection with the case, also expressed sympathy for the victims in a statement released late Wednesday by her Islip Terrace-based attorney Robert Macedonio.

“I will listen to all of the evidence and withhold judgment until the end of trial,” Ellerup said in the statement. “I have given Rex the benefit of the doubt, as we all deserve.”

The statement added that “Ms. Ellerup’s heartfelt sympathies go out to the victims and their families,” and “nobody deserves to die in that manner.”

Macedonio said Wednesday that Ellerup can't do an interview, but said she wanted to speak out publicly. (Ellerup is currently under contract for seven figures with NBC Universal, Texas Crew Productions and G-Unit to produce a documentary on the case)…

A while ago I recall someone said it may be a shooting target. Apparently there are some sick people who buy disturbing shooting/gun range targets (if that’s the proper term) such as pictures of battered women.

Someone might get away with that if they're shooting in their back yard, but, no, that wouldn't fly at an actual gun range. It's very disturbing that anyone would make or purchase such a thing.

Macedonia is there for his own secret payday first, and therefore for getting Rex acquitted.

For his public payday second, and thus involved in maximizing Asa's profit, no matter the costs to her, the victims or the public. He doesn't care about Asa's being okay financially. He cares about riding her coattails (after giving her a shove) on the reality TV deal.

Asa's interest are only his concern when they don't conflict with his.

Right. But she won't be a witness for the defense.

She will be releasing statements through her agent/attorney.
In hopes to pre-condition future jurors.
And these statements can't be cross-examined.

If she becomes an official witness, she seems extremely vulnerable to cross examination. Which could correct the preconditioning. And thus, the defense will not put her on.

YES!!! Has she ever offered any genuine sorrow or comfort to these victims? All she has done is whine, moan, and complain about her suffering at having her home torn apart. While having your home torn apart (literally) is a very big deal, at least you can still get up and walk away from that home. Many people ended up on Ocean Parkway without that chance. They're dead. They weren't even permitted to walk away with their own lives. So far, here is what AE has done, MOO:

-She has done whatever was possible to shield RH's assets from the victims in the event of conviction
-She has protected her own financial interests without meaningful comment on the financial status of victims' estates/families
-She has petitioned for sale of weapons that are items of interest and potential evidence in a murder trial
-She seems to have had a hand in RH finding a pen pal in prison, so he has someone to cry to over the lack of butter there
-She initially stated "it is what it is" in re: her then-husband; this position has "evolved" into a more balanced legal view in line with feeding more material into her documentary deal
-She has made said deal, which will give her generous financial compensation while victims of her then-husband suspect will have no such recourse
-She is now withholding judgment on her previous husband's guilt but in the meantime, has still divorced him

I think she can very well see it, however, there is likely something (other than the $1M payout) at stake for her to want to continue her romance with him, something we're not privy to (yet). It's all smoke and mirrors. MOO.
