He probably called from a burner phone!

Maureen's friend (I wrote Melissa's sister above, oops) said the person who called had weird S's. Melissa's sister said the caller sounded like he was being very deliberate with his voice. To me, the only difference between the voice calling LISK documentary producers and the voice on the French journalist's you tube is the caller to the producers was more deliberate.

MOO
In the phone call to the producers, RH's emphasis on the word heard (''I had heard''), was similar to the way he said question (''I have a question for you'') in his voicemail to the woman from a networking group.

Wondering if RH's penchant for buggy, creepy phone calls began in high school or even elementary school, bet some girls and teachers received some weird calls, possibly even for years without knowing or suspecting the source.
speculation, imo. fwiw.

“Hey, this is Rex from the … group,” a man can be heard saying in a February voicemail recording that Vidal shared on TikTok on Sunday.

“I actually heard you are no longer part of the group. I still wanted to talk to you,” Heuermann said, according to Vidal.

“I had a question for you: Did also want to touch base? So if you get an opportunity, you can always find me at the office or feel free to use my cell,” he said. “Hope you’re doing good. Hope to talk to you soon.Thanks.”

I bet you're right! For those of us around RH's age, we can remember local phone books where you could get people's phone numbers and addresses easily. Our neighborhood phone book even listed kids' names and ages, which even back then my mom thought was unsafe. Prank phone calling was a phase some kids went through. Instead of pranks, I can imagine RH making creepy calls.

Good thinking. So curious if we will ever find that out.

Yes. If you read the bail application, it specifies what he was using each for. Where I’m stumped is that he had the same cell phone LE observed him with at the store in May 2023 as he had in 2011. Twelve years of history on one phone. I wonder what he was doing with it between 2011 and 2023.
Does it sound as though he had a public, business, professional phone and his personal phone? THEN, when he was "hunting" and talking to a new potential victim, he purchased a job-specific phone? which I wonder if he kept or destroyed and trashed . . . . From the video, he appeared adept at having the money / cash out and ready to purchase what he thought was the private transaction of adding minutes to a burner phone. But if he did keep the job specific phones and the victims' phones . . . what a treasure trove for LE. Wonder if he's been told or knows about the electronics sniffing dogs?

Pretty good, accurate, nonsenationalist 'what we know so far' article by ABC Australia (our public broadcaster).

Nice photo of Jessica Taylor at the end which I hadn't seen before.

He spoke the term "question" with unnecessary mysterious intonation (to make contact palatable), at least so was my impression. If he said "heard" in the same way, I don't remember exactly, but I think so: in the middle of the word his voice rose and fell again, the word was stretched a bit, more than usual. Do you understand, what I mean? - All MOO.

''Harley is the first dog in Canada trained to seek out digital storage devices that may be related to the exploitation of children, Peel Regional Police said in a press release today (March 30).''

''Normally, trained police dogs can track criminals, locate missing people who may be in trouble, detect explosives, search for evidence, conduct building searches and sniff out drugs. Peel police have 13 dogs on the K9 unit.

But Harley is specifically trained to find digital storage devices through scent and she heads out with the Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) to support officers during search warrants, police say.''

There are no other dogs trained to do this Canada and very few in the United States. According to an ABC news story, there were only about 100 canines certified to do this type of work in the U.S. in 2022.

The dogs are trained to smell a chemical compound found in electronic storage devices such as thumb drives and microSD cards. Because they are so small, these devices can be difficult to find. But they can store photos and videos, which could be evidence in child sexual exploitation cases.''

Maybe, he had even a family-phone so as not to confuse anything?

The dogs can find the devices in sofa cracks and upholstery and pillows, probably in mattresses as well, for example. Great!

I wonder if he has dentures or a partial plate. That's the affect I hear.

Jmo
I for my part wonder, if he has 2 very tight dental arches (he has a very little mouth, IMO) and these arches are hindering the pronunciation a bit, perhaps with the "S". No lisping, but nudging with the tongue from time to time. - I'm no expert, it's my impression only.

So relieved he was arrested before he struck again! I do believe that this time of year triggers him after reading the timeline. I also read that he had a shoulder injury and I'm wondering if he had recovered from that. Could be why he was looking in the direction of children, it would be easier for him to physically control them. These sickos do live and walk among us, I don't think any of us would even notice this guy except to note how tall and big he is. All JMO.

IMO, his gweyeshton was, "Are you going to insist that I explain why I'm calling, or are you so happy I called for any reason that you don't need an explanation?"

I don’t know if I’m allowed to link the bail application here but starting on Page 17, it refers to a certain cell phone # ending in 2671, which was associated with the springfield9 email account that he set up way back in 2011. This was the same cell phone # he used for thousands of searches. He was still using this cell phone in 2023, as recently as May 19, 2023. (page 18). Further, he was observed by LE purchasing extra minutes for this same cell phone. It appears he had that cell phone a very long time.
These are the details I’m referring to, taken from the bail application. Was he using that phone for more than a decade, or did he store it away until his next victim? LE seemed confident that because he was buying more minutes, this was the time for arrest. He had it on his possession when he was arrested. I wonder if LE has access to its telephone history during all those years. He did a lot of searches from it, but why the sudden concern for that particular phone after it being in his possession for so long. MOO

what's the consensus? crocodile tears?
I think it’s a defense move on his attorney’s side to try to gain sympathy. Make his client look like a man who was “unjustly” accused. With all of the circumstantial evidence surrounding him right now and the experiences coming out from people who know or have known him, his DA is probably trying to find anything he can to “humanize” and “soften” Rex’s image to the public before court.

What will happen to Heuermann on Aug 1st? Are they revealing the date of his trial?

I doubt it; a trial date probably won’t be set for a while. Most felonies and a lot of misdemeanor crimes drag on for quite some time. A crime of this magnitude is going to see date after date of hearings, discovery, motions, adjournments and so on until an actual trial comes to fruition, IMHO

Agreed. With all the evidence still to be processed just from NY, it will be awhile. Plus, who knows what else will rear up?

Do you think it's possible for more charges this early?

.

Apologies if this is already shared. Creepy!

LISK podcast producers get a call from... possibly Rex H., claiming the aquarium owner is LISK.

MOO

Edited to add: I found this video because I recalled Amanda, who got calls from LISK, said that his "s" pronounciation stood out to her. I wanted to listen to him. And yeah, RH has a weird "s."

MOO
I'm no expert but it did sound like him I think

Whoa. Excellent recall. I didn't remember it was the same phone. Dang.

This might sound weird, but what
yeah he's got a bit of a lisp
sounds just like him
IMO it's him
This thought may have already been shared, but I wonder if they’ve had Melissa Barthelemy’s sister listen to that Bonjourno (or whatever that guy’s YouTube name is) interview? Since LE had been surveilling Heuermann for a year prior to his arrest, I wonder if this interview was already known to them (or found by them on YouTube) and they asked her to see if she could recall any similarities between his voice in the video and what she can remember the voice sounding like from the calls to her.
That part of the case always gets to me. As an older sibling who is close to my younger siblings, I can’t even begin to try to wrap my head around how it must feel to have some psychopath taunting me about my sister’s disappearance and then be told by them that she was killed. It makes me feel physically ill for her.
