Honored to share that Othram assisted the Suffolk County Police Department and the FBI in identifying 34-year-old Karen Vergata from Manhattan, NY. Karen is the earliest recorded victim of the Long Island Serial Killer, murdered in 1996.

Investigators with the Gilgo Beach Homicide Investigation Task Force added the profile of Judith Ramona Veloz, a Bronx teen who vanished from Manhattan in 1993, to a national missing persons database last October.

I saw this too and this is just completely BAFFLING to me.

Why they did not obtain a warrant to obtain his DNA via Buccal Swab on arrest is confounding. Why did they wait? They'd been tailing his for some time already at that point.

On another note, it solves the mystery surrounding the hearing #623

Often they hope the suspect will provide one voluntarily at their request following the arrest. I'm guessing he told them to pound sand so they had to request a warrant for the DNA swab. They have a lot going on, in a million different directions, so the application for the warrant just takes some time. They had enough to hold him, and they know where he's going to be, so they probably just did it in due time. It's also appropriate to wait for a period of time to see if he puts in a request to speak with investigators. He's obviously not ready for that yet. I'm curious as to whether he'll put up a fight once the warrant is granted.

Absolutely there could be the possibility of more than one serial killer, just found it odd that my POI had so much in common with this case, attended the same methadone program as Amber, hung out with her, got high with her, possibly had sex with her, had a lingerie fetish among others, military and LE knowledge, lifelong Long Islander, knows top officials on the Island. And an ex wife with the same name as one of the victims who seemed to have their family tortured most. But, DNA is pointing at RH as I see it. Maybe I see a lot of coincidence where there is none.

wow! That is CRAZY! I wouldn't discount it. He runs in similar circles hopefully he isn't an SK, but a creeper but you might be onto something.

She has an existing Doe thread (now listed as identified!) here:

Could it be that the investigator to contact is part of the taskforce? It's listed as a Suffolk County case.

Is it possible that as the Task Force examined every known case, information on any missing woman they could, it was realized that she did not have a profile up, so that was remedied without meaning she ties to the Gilgo4?

Got it. So we're just furthering our research on Fire Island Jane Doe, with Karen's name added. Thanks.

I see your point on most but not with it being appropriate to wait to see if he decides to talk. That makes no sense to me. As far as the exigency, I think the Idaho case with BK was exigent and they managed to have several warrants in hand on arrest. Not just for his person (with buccal swab), but also for his car, the PA home, and the WA apartment, all executed simultaneously with the arrest and with each other.

Am I correct in remembering most victims were last seen on/about a holiday (or at least a noted US calendar day)? Labor Day, 4th of July, Valentine's Day, etc??

I have noticed a pattern of abductions around three-day holidays and when parents/people are drinking and/or distracted like the 4th of July.

I think he would have known. From the Presser:
"In August of 2022, approximately 6 months after we formed this Gilgo Task Force, a DNA profile suitable for genealogical comparison was developed from the remains of Karen Vergata.

"In September of 2022, the FBI was able, via a genetic genealogy review, to identify Ms. Vergata."

So, apparently the family knew from about then, don't you think? Sadly, it may have been the way she died that . . . well, just speculation but to know that outcome for a child must be devastating.

Yes, I definitely share your thoughts. Assuming Mr V didn't have any ailments that might have prevented his understanding.

I live in Idaho. They're pretty good about that here. Could be a different set of policies in New York.

Hmmm. Good point.

Doesn't mean it's a bad theory! And doesn't mean it's not RH. I think sometimes, we get the idea that killers evolve in a straight line, when actually, they sometimes try things and end up going back to the thing the used to do (Bundy), or want to treat a particular victim a certain way that's different to the others (Ridgway, Eyler), or change things up because what was working before doesn't keep being safe or practical (Gacy, Williams, Ridgway, Corll).

Perhaps, if Cherries was a RH victim, something about her meant he went back to the water.

There's not necessarily anything sinister in that, people often see friends and family on holidays. But if it's a public holiday, it may also suggest time off work for a predator. (So Valentine's wouldn't count.)

If we are looking at a school calendar that’s usually around a mid winter break. Jmo.

Perhaps. But, PA. The arrest warrant came from ID; the search warrants on arrest were issued by PA court and WA court respectively.

I think we'd find evidence if the dark triad. Losing his dad at 12, what impact did that have? Standard of living drop? How did the family manage? Did his mom date? Did he see that as a threat, a violation, did he have a creepy incestuous possessive Norman Bates relationship with his mom?

How many sex workers has he hired over the years, discarding certain ones in favor of a "type" which he in turn permanently discarded? Where'd that "type" come from? I'd like to compare photos of all the women in his life, at age 18-25-30. Mother, wife, second wife, high school girls, high school girl's mothers.... his utter disdain for women in violent, palpable, deadly.

That call to his former coworker is chilling. Trying to come off as natural, give me a call, something I want to run by you. Yeah, no. Just say it. State the nature of your business. It was lure-y. And gross.

I agree. The fact no DNA was obtained from RH during booking is surprising... is it related to NY laws (same as the law requiring DNA only to be entered into CODIS upon conviction??). There's no way a defense attorney wouldn't fight a request for DNA swabbing of a client under these circumstances, so I'm surprised the DA wasn't ready for this and have a plan in place. I remain baffled with you about all of this.
