Does anyone know of a way to see the 20/20 show in Australia, or if it will eventually be released there?
Hi Dot, I'm in NZ...we will get the 20/20 episode eventually but guess it depends on when one of our respective Networks will shell out the dosh for it. I saw that it can be watched on "Hulu" - when I went to hulu's Youtube channel only an 8.43 preview is available right now.

Burner phones have numbers.
Numbers that phone other numbers belonging to victims..
true, but in order to connect those numbers to him, they would've had to have found the phones in his possession (or his fingerprints on them, etc.), no? if he'd gotten rid of them as he went, presumably, they wouldn't have been able to link them to any of those numbers.

The court documents stated that the burner phones used by Heuermann to contact the victims constantly pinged off the same cell towers as his legitimate phone. They also pinged off the cell towers near his office in Midtown Manhattan and close to his family residence in Massapequa Park, where investigators recently discovered a plethora of eerie evidence. Records further showed that the locations of Heuermann's personal mobile and the burner phones coincided with the locations of the victims’ disappearances in Massapequa, Long Island, and Midtown Manhattan. “Investigators could find no instance where Heuermann was in a separate location from these other cellphones when such a communication event occurred,” the court documents state.

To me it reads that after LE did cell phone tower dumps the victims phone, RH's burner phone and his own personal cell all pinged together each time.

IIRC, there's also security cam video of him taking one of the burner phones into a store to purchase more minutes. His Tinder account was also linked to one of the burner phones.
Below is a compilation of articles about Rex. You have to scroll down to find the relevant articles.

Scroll down for the video/photo on this one, too.

JMO, the prosecutors have done a good job of getting multiple sources for digital and witness evidence that Rex Heuermann was the killer.

The investigators found that the various burner numbers that contacted victims traveled with his subscription cell phone. The DA specified that they did not find a time when Rex's phone of record did not travel with the burner of the time.

I believe he used his charge card in the same locations at least one burner phone was.

And at least one time he accessed an email account associated with a burner phone with his phone of record.

I don't know how many physical burner phones they recovered...I only know he had one on him upon arrest.

But there are other circumstantial ways to tie him to burner phones beyond recovering them among his possessions.

Edited to add: this entire post is useless compared to Betty's sourced response with the same theme.

ah, now I get it! that makes sense. thank you, girlhasnoname, Betty P, and Ruminations for helping me understand! couldn't think how the burner phones could be tied to him if he didn't still have them, but that makes it very clear how they were able to piece that together. :)

JMO, investigators did an amazing job of researching, analyzing and tying it all together. They must have had a large team of experts combing through data and chasing down leads. It’s no wonder the discovery files turned over to Rex’s defense team are so large. If his defense attorneys are going through it now, they must be very worried.

Henriquez spoke to "48 Hours" exclusively and says that Heuermann gave her a sweater in 2007 that Ellerup had picked up while she was on a trip to her native Iceland. Henriquez wonders if Ellerup's trip out of the country might have given Heuermann the opportunity to kill Maureen Brainard-Barnes, who disappeared that same summer. Henriquez has held onto the sweater and says it is a reminder of two women she believes are victims.

"Because the wife's a victim as well," said Henriquez. "For him to ask her to bring back gifts for his employees, and then he's also … betraying her."

-.-.-
I'm worried about the sweater .....

Glad that this former employee of RH's business has publicly spoken out and acknowledged that Asa and her daughter are both victims.

I think we need to see more info about the cell towers to understand the implications more fully. Midtown Manhattan is very busy, and apparently RH's house is within a short distance from the LIRR train station, which would also have traffic. IMO, the evidence, until we know for sure, has to do with LIRR train stop approximate locations, along with Midtown/Penn Station or Port Authority area. I would like to see a map, in future, of the Long Island Pings.
I am not sure why Massapequa/Massapequa Park area has been so heavily focused on. For a second, imagine RH was not apprehended, yet. Why has Babylon/West Babylon area not received more scrutiny? Two of the four Gilgo 4 had ties to those areas right before they disappeared.

MBB: around 59th St. Bridge (Manhattan, going toward LI City/Queens area), then later out by LIE, Islandia, LI
MB: pings corresponding to areas along LIRR routes, and her phone was used corresponding to cell sites in Babylon
MW: Hauppauge, activity in Massapequa Park (again, RH's house is close to train station)
AC: house in West Babylon area

To make matters more confusing, relying just on paperwork (not interviews) since RH's arrest, I want to see an explanation in the future as to why MB's date of disappearance/last seen has been changed on the bail doc. Add to that, none of the burner phones used to contact the victims were known to be owned or operated by RH.

''Pointing to Heuremann

The architecture firm that Heuremann worked for was located in Midtown Manhattan. His cell phone was registered to his business but listed his home address for billing - in Massapequa Park. These two locations matched up to the towers that victims' phones and burner phones connected to. Investigators used the billing records of Heuremann's cell phone to acquire general location information. This data showed his personal cell phone in consistent proximity to the burner phones that were used to contact the victims, the victim's phones that were used to check voicemail messages, and the calls made to taunt and harass the Barthelemy family using her cellphone. Investigators determined one harassing call to the family was made from Barthelemy's phone while it was connected to a tower located at 4 Penn Plaza (2,372 feet from Heuermann's office). Another identified burner cellphone made calls while connected to a cell tower only 872 feet from his office.
Cellular Records are not only a reliable approach to identifying a suspect, but they are remarkably well suited for exonerating one as well. In this case, detectives were able to establish an alibi for Mrs. Heuermann based on her cellular billing records, which revealed that her cell phone departed New York on June 4, 2010, returning on June 8, 2010. Again, billing records established that her cell phone traveled from New York to New Jersey on August 28, 2010, not returning until September 5, 2010. This data confirmed that she was out of state for the disappearances of both Waterman and Costello. Records could not be obtained for 2007 because they no longer existed due to retention policies. I remember, that RW's wife was very interested after the arrest to secure their property for herself or at least one of the homes. Searching for a link, I found nothing, but the news article above.

Victims can be perpetrators; perpetrators can be victims.

It's natural to try to sort people into the good guys and the bad guys, but it's not always easy. Or possible.

A lot to unpack, I’ll tackle a few:

The maps, illustrations cell phone and tower data will likely be shown in great detail during the trial. If you’ve followed a trial lately that used a lot of cell phone and GPS data as evidence, you’ll understand how the experts in this field are able to reconstruct the movements of killers in good, valid detail. The prosecution probably isn’t going to reveal all of that evidence prior to the trial. Hats just standard practice.

As for Rex H using burner phones to call the families of victims after the murders, he apparently got a special kick out of lrtting families get their hopes up when they saw the phone number of their missing loved one calling their cell phone. He’s one sick guy.

Burner phones used to contact some of the victims prior to their deaths were traced to Rex H.

I still stand by what I said, I guess explanations will be at the trial. Thank you for your input, @Betty P
