sure they come off strange...but I have known families kind of like this. Asa could be what we refer to as a covert narcissist. she may live the way she does because she is lazy and doesn't care if Rex doesn't. I don't think they ever threw out anything...and they all stick close together, no one moves out no one attempts to fix it...the kids are fine because there is no expectation on them that they will be neat or orderly or do anything. Victoria has never known any other life it seems. mOO

I found Asa incredibly cold and disinterested in the victims and their families. Not a single word of compassion or empathy for their loss and the pain they've suffered for so many years. what struck me as so odd was his killing, disposing and quickly flying out of town to meet his family.

I do also think Asa is very steely and she is incensed by the intrusion, at the same time she seems shameless about her home, as though all of that appalling mess is a product of the search. the vibe is sketchy for sure... I have seen rundown shacks in Appalachia that are better cared for than that home they all live in. It's disgraceful but not illegal. He must have really been a cheap man when it came to his family. His architectural office however is spotless and modern . mOO

True, unmarried couples do live together. The problem would be that since KV was dismembered, it would seem likely AE must have known about RH's activities. Where is it likely KV was dismembered? At the moment, it seems LE believes the women were kept inside the home. In my opinion, for this witness to be right about KV being at the RH home very close in time to her disappearance, then either: LE is wrong about RH working only at home and only when the family was away; or about AE not being involved the the murders.

So true…

Edit: it could also be that he was a repeat customer of Karen’s, or he just got her number that day and drove her home from their soirée. So if Åsa was gone during feb25-mar15 he could have done this murder in his signature way without her.

I think signatures are overrated btw.

Once it sinks in I do hope Åsa focuses all that anger on RH. Then she can mete out the appropriate punishment by putting RH on death row where he belongs.

VH stayed close to home for college so there was no opportunity for her find herself outside of the family dynamics/home.
Then she goes to work for her father.
Sadly that speaks volumes about VH.
I see her as the real victim in the family.

In my experience with social services in NY, employed or not Asa would be considered under Rex's income as his spouse.
Her son is diagnosed with a disability and is eligible regardless of his parents income.

I replied to you saying that AE was working and made good money so she wouldn't be eligible for food stamps.

Thank you. I thought Asa said that when she met Rex when she was working at the 7-11 and he was in college.

Yes, that is when she first met him according to what she said in the documentary.
Then she married some guy, had CS, was in a bad marriage and somehow she and RH were in contact and he helped her get a divorce and as we know the rest is history.

How would Suffolk County know which jurisdictions to contact? As I understand things, any LE that has a crime they believe might be connected can already contact Suffolk County for comparison, right? I suspect there are legal hoops to jump through, but if there are other crimes and disappearances anywhere that seem to match and that have DNA samples can have the answers. Getting him into CODIS would make comparisons easier, of course, as not all LE might think their crimes appear similar, but there is a way for that to happen already - as I understand things.

Im wondering how alcoholism plays into this household..for some reason I am getting a vibe about this overweight depressed couple..beer and wine? the condition of the house? would rex come home after slugging a couple big boys on the train, would he eat dinner and then drink some more in the garage with his cigars?

Rex is a big lazy slob and his wife is completely domestically challenged. It seems as though over the years they settled into it and he was not motivated to remove his parents belongings and instead just kept adding to the boxes upon boxes of detritus. This is not that unusual but it is surprising considering his profession. I grew up around several very good architects and their homes were a reflection of their discerning aesthetic.

it looks like she got some remodeling done and was trying to fix some things but you can't truly fix a house that is piled to the ceilings with junk. I mean who props up their roof with a two by four and calls it a day? Rex was not invested in this life he was living there...just vibing on the scene there.

I CAN imagine him designing some sketchy looking place named Hillbilly Heaven or Billy Bob's Garage. Have his old coworkers said anything about him?

JMO, she seems very defensive of herself. The way she spoke to the news media early on seemed very condescending. She had (and still has) the same superior attitude towards LE and the prosecutor. I think she learned that from Rex.

They strike me as people who lived in an alternate reality with a skewed sense of what is normal or socially acceptable. Rex was just successful enough to think he was a big shot professional and Asa reflects that. JMO, they actually believe they're superior to others. Neighbors report trying to talk to them but getting only a rude attitude in response. Rex and Asa's attitudes about his crimes is just massive denial.

A disabled child is best suited to order. Their lives can feel chaotic depending on the extent of their disability so the home environment needs to be calm, clean and clutter free. Diet, sleep hygiene and exercise are essential to their health. I don’t see that health is a priority in this family.

It would be great to have a detailed psychological assessment of Rex and AE. They are strange. There is nothing normal about their living conditions.

Does anyone remember the name of the documentary /special where RH's cousin's wife was speaking about Rex and also mentioned that her husband, Rex's cousin. traveled to Long Island for something and stayed at his house?
I think she said he booted out of there early too.
