The National Park Service (631-281-3010) permits waterfowl hunting from the Fire Island National Seashore. Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge is located on the south shore of Long Island in Suffolk County. This area offers deer and youth turkey hunting opportunities. State and refuge permits are required.

Babylon Marsh Hunting Area Dept of Conservation Hunting Area next to Gilgo Beach. It’s a Duck hunting area and a reason to have Hunting burlap - It is legal to duck hunt (possibly deer) along Babylon Marsh, fire island /cap tree beaches in Winter. Duck hunters use huts, tents, boats which are camouflaged with burlap. They would be loading and unloading vehicles in these areas without being suspicious. Hunting would be a reason to be in remote beach areas, creeping around in darkness and a reason why a person would know the access roads. Only in Winter & Perhaps a reason why different types of body dumps as Summer, the nights are short and many people around. Fall & Winter long nights and isolation … hunters don’t really approach or talk to other hunters.
So it’s possible duck hunting would provide knowledge, access, and reason to be out in these areas and for having large objects wrapped in burlap - shelter/tent?. But not in Summer. Doesn’t give a reason to be lurking in May (Shannan)
Looks like hunters must be permitted ..

yeah, but what actual physical permanent buildings exist now or existed then, specifically buildings that are close to the road where he can park, possibly providing a sheltered parking space.. a building that would not necessarily alarm a SW if he brought her there, until it was too late?
That is assuming they were still alive when he brought them there, because otherwise they would have provided limited interest for him, necrophilia..?

It has been said that most serial killers start killing in their mid 20's to early 30's; Based on his search history, I wonder if he didn't start off by killing young girls (10-12 year olds) in the late 80's, early 90's? Then realizing it was too risky because everyone looked for the missing children, he turned to the escorts, for they were less likely to be reported missing or looked for. He chose them because they were petite, young women who represented the children he truly sought.

I hope they look deeply into the many cold cases of the children killed in the area back then.

I wonder if he acted out at daughter’s slumber parties or child/teen outings/get-togethers, in other words daughter’s friends. I’ve seen that before.

I think it’s likely he would have acted upon his CSAM fantasies with children to whom he had access, perhaps similar to his MO of targeting “easier” victims- basically ones that are directly available to him, as opposed to say abductions off a playground or school path, but this does not mean I don’t think it’s possible he abducted kids because it is DEFINITELY possible, I’m just saying his MO with sex workers indicates targeting easy prey, ones less likely to be missed. Kids can be considered easier prey, of course, we saw ARS go after an adult jogger who fought back and escaped, then abduct and kill 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway, perhaps because she was an easier victim. I guess what I’m saying is maybe he had a more sly approach to getting his child victims. Not explaining myself well. Basically ones that were very easily accessible to him, somehow similar to his MO of targeting sex workers.

Of course I’ve seen killers that have operated with various MOs. Travis Forbes for example.

Anything and everything is possible with this guy.

Everybody has some line they will not cross because of right and wrong or increased legal risks.

What you say, and as mentioned above with Rex having a daughter in early teens when it is possible Rex started, are viable contexts for a Rex narrative. It is possible Rex deliberately targeted women of legal age because he simply did not want to get caught grooming a minor or even engage in the crime, which may have appealed to him, because THAT would be wrong to him, lol.

Another viable narrative, if it is true that Rex started as his daughter became a teenager could be as simple as she had more of her own life, and Rex was not parenting as much.

Boats anywhere near shore are not that private; sound travels very easily over water.

Maybe it is more likely that a boat is not come up upon, like a car, but it is much more memorable to come up upon a boat, and for hunting in shallow water, boats don't have cabins or a lot of places to stow stuff.

I can't seem to get on board with any boat theory...it would be too many extra steps and he didn't own a boat directly that I've been able to find. Using his vehicle (truck), he can pull over, it's pretty desolate and he'd have a clear view of who would be coming down the road either way to hurry up and carry them to the bramble/brush. You see a vehicle pulled over on the side of the road and most people assume maybe they've broken down, maybe using the bathroom, etc. He didn't carry them super far in either, so I think a vehicle pulled over was the fastest method for his disposal. Again, JMO

A boat could be viable for dumping a body if not for the inconvenience of them washing up to shore. It wouldn't look suspicious to load something big enough to haul a dead body into a boat.

But I can't see killing there.

Edited to add: the GB 4 are not among dead women I see dumped from a boat. They were too curated and staged, from what I know. That had to come from a car...I imagine it like investigatefred does.

I could see a boat as having been a disposal method for some of the washed up body parts, such as Karen's legs.

Right, but we can hope right? Look at Ted Bundy, The Green River Killer, Kemper The Co-ed Killer, Dahmer, BTK and others that eventually talked.

Seems like there's something deep inside of these guys that WANT to talk about it, reliving or bragging about the murders and how they got away with them gives them some sort of sick ego booster.

FWIW refusing a buccal swab is not a good look for an alleged SK.
If I was innocent and wanted to prove it…I would demand a swab to rule myself out.

Fantastic news. I wonder if this will uncover any new stones. Regardless, I hope once they have a definitive match maybe he will finally realize he’s done and he’ll start talking. He doesn’t strike me as the type that will give up 100% of his crimes though. I want true closure so badly for the victims and their families. After all these years, they at least deserve that much.
